This is a FANTASTIC bike shop. It's a few doors down from the new* Nantucket Bake Shop (which we turned into first by happy accident and of course took advantage of our mistake) and the Nantucket Meat and Seafood Market -- so it's a little ways outside of town, about halfway between town and the airport. * OK, new as in it moved sometime in the past 20 years. Island time elongates. Perhaps the slightly out-of-the-way location explains why (1) prices are so reasonable; (2) there's such a great selection of bikes for rent and for sale; and (3) the owner, who was on site helping customers, and staff are so friendly and helpful. Bikes seem to be well maintained. Staff were hard at work tuning bikes on our visit. We are not "real" cyclists -- we can remain upright on two wheels and that's about it -- but we have many family members who are extremely hardcore about the sport. All our hardcore cyclists rent from Island Bike when they don't bring their own bikes across on the ferry, and stop there for supplies or parts. So glad we bought our little one a bike here rather than from the bike shop much closer to our house where the used bikes they tried to sell us were badly rusted with loose bike chains -- AND literally cost twice as much. Yeesh. As of June/July 2023, helmets are half off. Get there now, friends. read more

Came here to rent bikes for the week. They delivered them with a lock and helmets. They are very professional and its all about bikes!!! They asked about baskets. They have many maps, there were guys working on bikes the whole time. They told us the hours, that they offer roadside assistance, and pointed out that their phone number is on the bike, no excuse not to call if you need them. The guy also was very familiar with the island, even when we pointed out the odd driveway of our rental - he knew it. read more

I would avoid these guys at all costs. I paid $150 to have them replace a crank set (the lever that connects the pedals to the rest of the bike, which I learned from the receipt is a $40 part), and waited 2 weeks for the work to be done. The day I picked it up, I went for a ride and the crank set fell off the bike halfway to my destination, so I had to walk 2 miles. I brought the bike back to the shop the next morning and (I think understandably) expressed frustration with their work. Far from apologizing, the owner lectured and chastised me for complaining, and made me feel like I was being unreasonable because they "didn't do it intentionally." There are many other bike providers on the island - go elsewhere if you can. These guys are entitled, abrasive and ineffective. UPDATE 7/20: the crank set fell off the bike yet again yesterday. I won't waste my time bringing it back to these guys to fix it. read more

I had a great experience with Island Bike Company. We were on Nantucket for the July 4th weekend, and it was unfortunately too cold for much swimming. We ended up renting a couple bikes from Island Bike Company for a day and biked the 10 miles to Sankaty Head Light, and then back. It's such a great way to see a good chunk of the island, which has excellent bike paths that are completely separated from the main roads. They provide helmets and baskets if you need them. Unlike the big heavy city bike rentals, their bikes comes in many sizes, and I ended up getting one that was super light and could be adjusted 21 speeds. They disinfect the bikes between uses. I'd come back if I visit Nantucket again! read more

Bikes with baskets! Dutch bikes with baskets! With 7 speeds! And helmets! And easy to use locks! One star off because the kid setting up the seats had no clue how tall to make them and because my bike was dirty and turned my hands a shade of gray. Luckily, the seats were easy to adjust and the hands were washable. Great bike paths on the island--definitely go check them out. read more

I have to say, not a business who wants repeat customers or to be a valued member of the community. I watched them turn away someone ( a 60 year old man) with a flat tire because they don't work on that kind of bike. IT WAS A FLAT TIRE!!! All I can say is be better than that! HELP people unconditionally and they will reward you with business. I have rented bikes from you before and bought bike parts but after watching that incident, not any more. read more

I've been using Island Bike for more than 10 years and they have been consistently great to work with! We use them to rent extra bikes when guests are in town and I've used them for 100% of my bike repairs. They are friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient! I went in this weekend for a minor adjustment to the read derailleur on one of my bikes and they did it while I waited. Brought back another one with a broken rear derailleur (I'm seeing a bad trend for my treatment of my bikes!) and they are fixing it and will deliver it to our house! Do not go here for bike repair. They are dishonest and a rip off. Brought my vintage 10 speed to repair the derailer cable. This is a common repair. They cut the cable off and said there are no replacement parts. They charged me $50 for cutting my cable. I didn't know any better. Later, I shopped on Amazon and found universal cables and instruction video on YouTube. read more

Skip right over this bike shop and go to any other bike shop on island. The owner of this place is the opposite of friendly, has no people skills, and was a real jerk to me. He seemed irritated that I was at his shop and made me feel like I was taking up his time by asking about some bike accessories I planned to buy-baskets, rear bike racks and water bottle holders. There were no other customers there and all his helpers wore ear buds so they didn't hear me when I walked up and stood waiting for help. They too seemed annoyed that they had to stop what they were doing, remove their ear buds and attempt to help me spend money at their shop. I drove over to a bike shop on Surfside and the owner there was friendly and told me if I brought my bike in he would even install my purchases free of charge. I'd give Island Bike Company zero stars if I could and I will never return there. read more

By far the best bicycle shop on island. Away from downtown area and craziness. Although my rental was only for the weekend very accommodating staff they offered free delivery and pick up with rental. Helmets locks and baskets all cam with no charge. Can't say enough about the service very reasonably priced; would highly recommend anyone going to the island for the first time. read more

Great experience! Rented a bike for my son for the week-they were nice through the whole process. Also appreciated how they were flexible with timing for bike pick up. I saw others treat the staff with some attitude and be disrespectful - the owner doesn't respond well to it (rightfully so IMO). read more

A group of us just rented mountain bikes over the weekend. Very accommodating and friendly service. Delivered bikes to the camp site on time per agreement. Bike was durable and comfy in the muddy rain- going through rough roads and terrain! Would definitely rent from them again. read more

A little hard to find as it's behind another business/building. Just went in to get air for two mountain bikes and Mike, a local, went out of his way to help, from getting the bikes out of my pickup, filling all 4 tires, and finally, putting them back in the pickup. Impressive for just needing some air. If I need anything else anyone asks, it will be the place. read more

Good place, the staff was very informative and helpful. I was able to get in and out very quickly, and it is very reasonably priced. They go by IBC on the island, but don't sell root beer so they only get four stars. read more

This shop is lazy, incompetent, and rude. We rented 4 bikes, which were delivered, however all the bikes came horribly tuned, shifting was off on almost every bike. The stems and seats were crooked, some of the seats weren't tightened properly, allowing the seats to rotate while peddling. The delivery person didn't offer to adjust the bikes when they were dropped off. We called about the mis-adjustments, and the shop sent someone out right away but acted annoyed at my request to have fully functional bikes. He did the bare minimum to adjust the bikes and left. Some of the lose seat collars were missed, which left me wondering if other crucial bolts were left lose. I was nervous about my safety while riding their bikes. Also, the bikes were sized horribly, they sent 20" frames for my father and I based on our 5'10 height, which is way too large and uncomfortable to ride. read more

The bikes are fine but they were rude and unhelpful at the store, promised to adjust the bikes to fit us when they delivered them and didn't, didn't supply baskets for the bikes as promised and were unapologetic and rude when we called about the lapses. There are lots of bike rental options on Nantucket - we will never use these jokers again. read more

Out of town and more relaxed, these guys know what they're doing. Called in the morning and bikes were delivered by noon on a weekend, with free delivery! We got two cruisers and two hybrids both of which were amazing for rental bikes. Will be using these guys for many years to come when on island. read more
