Newport Art Museum - Exhbit room, 1st floor

Newport Art Museum

I recently checked out this event at the Newport Art Museum with a few of my girlfriends and we had…read moresuch a fun night. It was the perfect excuse to get dressed up and try something new, with a twist of course... delicious cocktails. The Edgar Allan Poe experience itself was really well done. The actors were fantastic and fully committed to their roles. I loved the costumes and the dramatic personalities. It made the whole evening feel immersive without being over the top. I'm actually at the museum about once a month for meetings, so it was fun to see the space used in a completely different way. My only wish is that we had a little more time to wander and take in the current exhibits, because it's such a beautiful setting. My one real downside is parking. With the recent changes, it has become pretty difficult to find a spot that is easy to get in and out of, especially during a New England winter. Definitely something to plan ahead for. Overall, such a unique and memorable night. I would absolutely recommend grabbing your friends and checking this out if it comes back around.

Small, but lovely, and still somehow incredibly grand. I didn't get to go into the main/large room because they were installing a new exhibit but there is a good amount to see beyond that one space anyway. The gift shop was small and no one was manning it so I didn't get to buy a souveneir but I enjoyed walking around the history and art that was everywhere. Also worth mentioning, but they had some good pieces by woman artists (c. 1940s) which I feel can be extremely hard to find. For this museum, the women tended to be friends of the original owners or at least ran in the same circles and some were even founding members of the museum's art association. Always so nice to see women's art (and some were my favorite pieces!) That being said, most of the art was very high brow white upper class with an emphasis on orientalism, which I feel simply encourages conversations about the zeitgeist of the early 1900s. I did really enjoy the pieces they had from Edward Mitchell Bannister which were on loan from the Rhode Island Black Heritage Society. There was also a members juried exhibit which brought some breath into the traditionalist art space. Well worth the visit!!

Miniature Occasions & Dolls - Some of these doll houses belong in a museum! This one is quite large.

Her inventory also includes a variety of collectible dolls, a few books about doll houses and some parts you may need for repairs. The inside is stuffed full. It looks more like a storage room than a show room. The owner did mention since the lock down a lot of her items made their way into the shop and she hasn't moved them out again yet. She is the sole proprietor, states she travels to trade shows around the country and does repair work to doll house and dolls. One house she is working on she mentioned the owner asked her to 'make it cute' without giving further details on what 'cute' means to them, and the work she did was not well received, now the owner wants her to 'fix' it. She also mentioned as she is doing the work herself, she has quite a back log of projects currently. When we first arrived she began telling us about herself, her state of health, her projects, life experience and so on. Very personal information you'd talk about with close friends over coffee. She also took some time showing us the doll houses on display. Many of them are in the thousands of dollars range. After a while we were able to ask her some questions about a project we are working on and although she did not have any items to purchase for the project, she did spend some time with us going over the details and giving advice which was very kind and much appreciated. You can tell she really does enjoy her medium and considers herself an artist. The awning over the entrance to the store is not in good repair at the moment and she mentioned she may be leaving this location as the rents are going up so I'm not sure how much longer this little shop will be here. If you want to see and perhaps purchase some really interesting doll houses and collectible dolls, get on over there before it's too late!

Queen Anne's was exactly that for us. We had about 75 guests, and were comfortable, but cozy. Here are some words that come to mind when I think of the space: chic, vintage, intentional, beautiful, versatile and lovely. Amanda, the owner, was great from the start. Patient, kind and helpful. Her experience was evident throughout our entire planning process. She worked with us to up to the very end, easing our little anxieties and assisting us with whatever we needed. The staff at Queen Anne's was amazing! We were so pleased with the above and beyond service. A room flip was needed after the ceremony, for the reception. It was done in a timely, efficient fashion, and for that, we (and our guests), were so grateful. Food was exactly what we expected- and delicious. We opted for food stations, rather than a formal sit-down dinner. Appetizer platters, salad, sliders and pizza. Everything was fantastic. No complaints from us or our guests. We had a blast! Our wedding was everything we wanted and more. Queen Anne's and Amanda have so much to do with our unforgettable experience! 15/10 recommend. P.S. Photos by Mat & Ash Photography (the best)

It perfected suited our smaller wedding, about 50 guests in all (Not including our musical quartet), and never felt rushed, cramped, or inconvenienced. The food was delicious, served timely to everyone with no issues. But the chandelier was the beautiful centerpiece highlighting the warm glow for an evening ceremony. Amanda was always available for any questions and there on the event day to ensure it started without a hitch. Would highly recommend this venue for anyone looking for a romantic and enchanting spot in Newport.
