After almost 30 years of being a customer of Luke DeNapoli Nationwide Ins. Agency, I had my auto…read moreins lapse, without the ability to be reinstated. I had to shop new auto ins., and eventually had to pay double due to having the lapse. The reason it lapsed? Every month I had my (then trusted) insurance agents make the payment on my behalf, using the stored method of payment I gave them. Apparently one particular month, they used a two year old debit card (which account was closed over a year and 1/2 ago) to make the payment, rather than the method they had used consistently for over a year 1/2! They left me a voicemail saying my pymt was declined, and after getting the message that night I called the bank the next day (because I did not see why it would be declined). Never would I imagine the reason it was declined was due to them putting through payment on a very old card. Of course this was on a Friday when I spoke to the bank, and when the agency was open again it was Monday, two days too late for the timely payment and my policy lapsed. I then called Nationwide HQ and told them of the situation. After I was told that all it would take was a call from the Agency to say that it was their error, I called Luke DeNapoli right away, and was told that they would call HQ. After following up minutes later with HQ, I was then blindsided by them telling HQ that it was NOT their fault. And HQ said that no matter what, the word of the agent is what they go by, and even if the Agency called again to try to reverse/correct what they said, HQ goes by what they initially say and what is done is done. My insurance was cancelled for good. They would not write me another policy (it is their policy that it must be a year after a lapse) and because the whole ordeal took 5 days to straighten out, I had insurance lapse for 5 days. This cost me $75 per day for the lapse with NYS DMV, it also cost me double for a new policy with a new ins company, due to having a lapse in coverage. They cost me hundreds of dollar at that point, and hundreds per year going forward. I also looking into changing my home owners insurance policy, of course because of the auto ins situation, but also because my parents (also long time customers) had been charged more than double they found out for their HO Ins. I went from paying $2642 per year with Nationwide to $1460 per year with Geico. I didnt change earlier because every time I asked my agents why my insurance went from $1200 with my first home to $2642 with my new one (same Sq Ftg) they said because the rates are increasing, I have claims, there are hardly and companies writing HO Ins on LI any more...things of that nature. I was scared! Now, after being screwed by them (again, after almost 30 yrs of being a customer, and most of my family members too!), I am so glad I changed to Geico. I have nothing against Nationwide per say, it is Luke DeNapoli, and his son Michael that took over, that I have the BIGGEST problem with. What personal, kind, trusting service for such a small community as East Northport. I will never understand why they did not defend the truth, that it was their error, not only to be honest but to save a customer of almost 30 years! What the heck did a loyal customer like myself do to deserve being screwed by this lousy agency??? Luke...sorry your son Michael will be running all of your hard-earned business right out the door...if he continues to be an A** to his customers. Shop around everyone! They are way over-priced I am now sadly finding out....and I guess in the end they did me a favor by screwing me....at least I am paying a lot less now!

WARNING!! Despite the large outdoor GEICO sign in the…read morecompany's colors along with the GEICO posters and literature inside this large facility, IT IS NOT A GEICO OFFICE! They try to trick the public and will never disclose that it's a separate independent insurance agency that sells Geico policies and collects payments but will not and cannot provide any assistance to a customer with questions and problems because they can't. According to the manager there, they don't even have access to GEICO corporate or customer service. I did some due diligence and discovered that originally, it was a GEICO facility that handled auto and home policies like mine but a few years ago, they dropped the auto when this independent agency took over. I recently had a serious issue with my auto insurance over a ticket and have been to this office three times. Each time I was given a different instruction from one of the 10 workers. The predominant one was to call GEICO customer service or their corporate office and ask for a specific form lettter from Underwriting. I phoned both and talked for hours but neither, especially the customer service rep had ever heard of this letter or knew what to write or even knew anything about a Commack GEICO office. She suggested to have them call her but they refused again because incredibly contact was not allowed. All they were capable of doing was to give me some phone numbers. I don't know about you but I've had many different insurance companies and agents like these who were always out to help with problems because they had contacts with the companies they represented. This situation is unbelievable. If intent on buying a GEICO policy, do it on line. I'm not even sure if their misrepresentation is legal because everybody will assume that they are dealing with GEICO. I was a Director of FlightSafety Intl, a company that Warren Buffett, the owner of GEICO, bought for his Berkshire Hathaway group while I was there. If you knew him, he'd react in horror over this subterfuge. I'm thinking of contacting him. To give you an idea about how far removed this office is from GEICO, most of the employees their have never heard of Buffett because they don't qualify for any of the benefits.
