I've been a guitar player for 45 years and my oldest guitar is 27. I took it in to see if it needed new frets, or at the very least the frets dressed. The tech said that it looks like it has another few years in it before that needs to happen. So, instead of trying to upsell me, he said all it needs is a tune up. I just saved a few hundred dollars. I drove from Rochester, NY, to ISH Guitars (1929 Teall Ave, Syracuse, NY) to purchase a 1955 Gibson ES-175 guitar. I am a beginner guitarist. Throughout the entire process, I knew this would be an excellent company. The showroom is designed with the customer in mind. It is bright and comfortable. Tom and Jay arrived on time for the appointment. They answered my questions thoroughly and clearly. Everything went smoothly. They were very open about how they calculated the trade-in value for the guitars I brought for trade. Everything was transparent. I purchased the guitar and am completely satisfied. It's easy to recommend a store when everything goes smoothly. It's during a "hiccup" that you see the full picture. Well, there was a "hiccup." When I arrived home and tried to play the guitar, it didn't work! (Spoiler alert - operator error!) I sent them an email that evening. They called me the next day at 9 AM. Concerned, they asked a series of questions. Problem solved! I hadn't turned up the gain enough. Once I did, the guitar sounded perfect. Like some others, I first discovered Ish Guitars on Reverb and always enjoyed perusing its beautiful collection of instruments. I happened in to Ish Guitars today, looking for an Ukulele, they didn't just have 1 Ukulele but had a very nice selection of varying playing levels from beginner on up, the color selections were great. The young man that helped me was pleasant and helpful, he didn't try to push a more expensive model, listened to what I was after and directed me to the proper instrument. They didn't try to sell me anything I didn't need. I asked if I needed a pick and they were honest and said no. I like that, they aren't trying to squeeze that extra buck from you and their prices are most definitely right. I was quite impressed with all the various guitars they carried, some very beautiful instruments can be found at Ish Guitars. It was nice to see that they also offer lessons as There was a young girl there taking guitar lessons.. they also offer Ukulele lessons. I'll be sure to tell all my guitar playing friends about this wonderful, homey vibe, guitar store. I heard from people this place was amazing, but I never got inside. I went over today on 11/12 and took a bus to check it out and got there when they were supposed to be open at 11AM, but no one was there. I waited 40 minutes and nothing. There was this nice lady that was opening up the place next door who told this poor kid that was waiting there even before me with his guitar that the owner usually comes later. She said she would contact him so he could get down here to open up. Must be a nice gig to show up whenever you feel like it. Felt bad for the kid waiting, he said he made a special trip to this place and had to get to class. He had a lot more patience than me, I bailed. I left before the guy even got there. I wouldn't personally waste my time on a place who has this kind of work ethic. My advice to people: show up well after 11 AM My advice to the owner: change your shop hours that is displayed on your site, facebook, your website to reflect that you show up whenever you feel like it. read more

Ish has a great selection of guitars and basses. He also carries electric upright basses, cellos, and violins! He has some used vintage gear as well. The store always has something interesting and new. I stop in fairly regularly to see what is new in the shop. I have bought an electric upright and a bass guitar here. i was in the area recently and saw this store as i was walking by. i decided to stop in and found out that they just opened a few weeks ago. the store itself is nice and the owner was very nice as well, he was friendly and easy to talk to and you could tell he had a genuine love of what he's doing. they have some higher end guitars and basses that are used for more modern sounds. if you're into really cool vintage gear, this probably isn't the store for you, but it's still worth checking out because you might find something that interests you. read more
