We were visiting this town looking for some fried chicken has when we spot this restaurant. We were kind of surprised to find a Mexican restaurant in this area...we were starving and we decided to give it a try. Normally you find more authentic Mexican food in small towns that in the city. Outside the place looks like new, very well taken care of. Inside the place is colorful, clean and new as well. On the food menu we were right. They have many options that we normally don't see in other places. The Huaraches and the Gorditas are good examples. I ordered a large Shrimp Cocktail as their menu only has the small size as an appetizer, and my family ordered Sopes and Fish Tacos. All of them were great, tasty and ay a decent price! Service was great and the owners are very down to earth. Very approachable and they were asking us how the food was. Definitely coming back to try other dishes and why not, review them as well!

Excellent Asada tacos and the nachos w/ house made chips were great. Great friendly service as well. I never write reviews but this was an awesome lunch.

My first trip to their new place. The burritos are fabulous, and the tamales are just darned good. The quality of the food hasn't dropped with the fixed-in-place kitchen - they started out in a food truck - and it was served quickly and hot. Please stop by and have a great meal.

Very overpriced for the small portions given. So greasy, $40 for 3 SMALL tacos that were filled with grease, two "quesadillas" that were not even half of a tortilla. Would not recommend

The food was good. But so little of it we all where still hungry. Worst thing of all was the price.

First time stopping into this Tacos El Amish location (us gringos pronounce it "Ehlll Ahh-meeesh")…read moreand it was awesome... Great little authentic taqueria up on the far northeast side of town. We've been to the restaurant on Broadway (which is good), but the Harlan location is better. Both locations are owned by the same family and you can tell they work their butts off to offer a quality product to their customers. The Broadway location is "tacos only" (nothing else), where as Harlan offers all your traditional Mexican fare. We got tacos, beans, and rice, and it was excellent... Our favorite taqueria in town is Rigo's down in Waynedale, but this location gives them a run for their money. Their tacos here are absolute fire, they stuff them silly full, and they offer up four different types of salsas (they've got some damn kick, so be careful) with cucumbers and radishes. The one thing we really like is they don't overly salt any of their food unlike other taquerias around town. You know this place is good when you're the only gringos eating there... Add in friendly/service, fair/reasonable prices, cool authentic/old school looking design inside, and Tacos El Amish is a hidden gem. If you're up on the northeast side of town, this little taqueria is worth the stop... You will not be disappointed (unless you don't like authentic Mexican food).

My first encounter with this local gem was over twenty years ago on my first visit to this Ohio town, and it's still around with improvements, enhancements and is still great overall! A terrific family run business. From its jam-packed with a wide array of dry and can goods on grocery shelves, great meats, extensive local baked goods, and a much renovated and expanded restaurant and really nice Mexican-style bar! If you're in town and are in the mood for an ice-cold Dox Equis and/or Jalisco style Mexican cuisine, this the place for you! Their goodies run the gamut from an incredible Pozole to Grilled Chicken delights, to delectable Burritos to mouthwatering tacos, some terrific, refried beans and incredible chips and salsa! I think they are one of the top five Mexican food joints in the Defiance area. Oh, and do your groceries while you're at it. Buen provecho ya'll.

What really bothered me was the surprise 3.5% surcharge they add if you pay with a card. That includes debit cards too. I didn't see any signs about it and wasn't told until the check came. At that point, I didn't have cash, so I had no choice. For anyone wondering, surcharges on debit cards aren't allowed under Visa and Mastercard rules. I get that places are trying to cover costs, but it should be clear up front and within the rules. I wouldn't have stayed if I knew about the extra fee--or I would've stopped at my bank across the street to grab some cash. Just a heads-up for anyone thinking of stopping by: bring cash.
