If you're in need of coffee and a quick breakfast - Isaack's will fix you up. Coffee is really good! We just had a typical egg, hash browns & toast. Partner had pancakes & sausage. Ordered a grilled chicken breast and it was maybe 2 to 3 ounces at best. The size would have been ok, however, there was no seasoning at all on the chicken. The baked potato was the size of a medium sized red potato, 3 bites total. Very disappointed. We did not ask but the waitress did comp the meal. Would not recommend. Worst food ever. Ordered a $10.00 fish dinner and got something like mush from the freezer. The coleslaw had no dressing. Then when I mentioned it to the waitress she do e absolutely nothing. Still charged full price for something you couldn't eat. I do not recommend at all. read more

Probably the dirtiest restaurant I've ever seen. The place stank of old fry oil and cigarette smoke, to the point that it seeped into your clothes, and there were two carts filled with festering dirty dishes in the dining room floor. The bathroom was a horror show was well, the urinal covered in a garbage bag and masking tape and the toilet didn't flush (meaning everyone that used it had left a memento behind). I had the chicken fried steak, which would've been good if they hadn't burned it black and set the black-side down on the plate, attempting to hide it. I can say that the mashed potatoes were homemade and near-perfect, and the salad bar was fresh. At any rate, cleanliness is NOT a priority. read more

Liver & onions......It has been quite sometime since I've had that dish and never at a restaurant and it was SO good with real homemade mashed potatoes. The onions were cooked perfectly with yummy brown gravy. My husband has the chicken fried steak and he said it was super tender. Mashed potatoes, white gravy and okra he had as his sides. I've been eating at Isaack's for 50+ years and I've seen several owners. It's nothing fancy, but it is very good home cooking. My favorites are chicken fried steak and hamburgers and Isaack's has some of the best onion rings you will ever eat. Very good salad bar too. read more

The food was good. Not the cooks fault. However I experienced the most horrific service ever based on our looks and weight and my children being mixed...maybe a combo of it all. At first I thought I was crazy but by the time I got up and left before I hurt someone I was 110% sure I was not imaging things!!!!! The waitress wouldn't even look at or acknowledge my children , she then ignored me more than once never check on us all while laughing and smiling and providing top notch service to the people around us. I kept my composer and didn't lose my **** until I checked out in which she came and hovered over the cashier to see if she would be tipped by the likes of us people I then loudly stated although I would love nothing more to lose my **** I gave her $20 and vowed I would teach my children to be better than people like her! From the claw foot bathtub salad bar to the taxidermied animal heads to the warm friendly manner of our waitress, I'm smitten with how quintessentially Texas it all was. They offer a smattering of classic Tex-Mex and Southern fare. There's nothing too surprising about the menu... chicken-fried items, enchiladas dripping in cheese and warm sauce. The food will be familiar to anyone who has spent considerable time in Texas. It's the Ma 'n Pa type of no frills cooking that's meant to fill you up and stick to your ribs. As I was feeling the need to feed my spicy tooth we decided to split the Mexican dinner which came with enchiladas, a tamale, and a crunchy taco with all the fixings. Chips and salsa were a welcome addition before the meal. The salsa tasted fresh and had a nice smokiness. The food was nothing fancy, but tasted good, the enchiladas and tamale a bit amorphous beneath a mound of sauce and cheese. It was a wise move to split the plate as the shear amount of food that arrived was impressive. Our visit was nostalgia inducing to say the least. Why, oh why, don't I trust the Yelp reviews?! I gave Isaack's three stars because it didn't seem fair to judge them on food we never tasted. It's "seat yourself" at Issack's. We did. And after ten minutes at a table with no one even acknowledging our presence, much less bringing us menus or taking our drink orders, we decided we didn't have [what was starting to look like] an hour and a half to dedicate to lunch. Stopped in on NYE and it was surprisingly busy. We drove from AZ and were so grateful to find a place that was open that was not a drive thru. In hindsight, we should have gone to McDonald's or Dairy Queen. Our server was not friendly from the word go. She was wearing an orthopedic boot. Maybe she needs to stay home until her foot is healed. Or get an attitude adjustment. The food was ok. Definitely not worth the $53 we spent plus a $10 tip that the server did not deserve. It took over 40 minutes to get our food and she let us know the kitchen was backed up. I appreciate that. Do not order the patty melt! It is a hamburger patty with cheese on wheat bread. Not rye bread and no grilled onions. It came with a side of potato chips that were warm from being under a heat lamp for so long. We ordered fried mushrooms and got them AFTER our meals were served. My kids split an order of enchiladas and a side order of rice. This was too confusing for the server to understand. I asked for an extra plate when I ordered and had to remind her when she brought the food. Again, major attitude. Basically the most unpleasant experience ever. read more

The dinner was fantastic. The last time I was here was ... well.. about 37 years ago. The memory was of my first Chicken Fried Steak and the Antler Tree down the road. I was introduced to this place when I was 8 during a family trip to Garner State Park. We did a bit of the driving around. It was the first CFS in my memory, and the one I have held all other to from a standard. So after 37 years, where they still that good? Did my memory just get inflated over time? Well I am pleased to announce that while they may not be 'The' best, they are still great. I was not disappointed. I was very happy to share this with my 4 year old daughter. While I am sure she will not remember, it is one of those things. Anyway, the food that everyone had was fantastic. The service was great. This is a hidden gym in the hill country and worth the stop if you find yourself near Junction. When i say near, I mean within 50 miles, it is that good. read more

First off, hands down best chicken fried steak I've ever had!!! They hand bread all their stuff, including onion rings (which are to die for and fresh) along with their steak fingers. Isaack's was the only restaurant we could find that wasn't Mexican (my fiancée didn't feel like it that night), and that had a menu available for us to see online. We walked in, the place packed, and only two servers. However with the little amount of wait staff, everything got to us hot, and right out of the pan. And OH MY GOD was it done right... For real, authentic home cooked food. A little pricy for a diner, but 100% well worth the money. So if you can't decide, or you did decide on another place, change your mind and go here!! read more

Came here for dinner after a long day driving, with my daughter and granddaughter. This is a small country restaurant with lots of Texas-style decorations on the walls - nice and rustic. We were sat in the outer section which was dimly lit such that a customer at another table had to use the light on his phone to read the menu. For $10.99 you could get a decent dinner and the kids menu was $4.99 snd reasonable. I had the liver with onions, mashed potatoes and beef-veg soup, my daughter had the chicken-fried steak and mashed potatoes and the same soup, and my granddaughter had a burger and fries. All 3 dishes were delicious and prepared in a reasonable time. However the soup was barely tepid when it should have been hot. That cost 1 star. Pverall we were pelased with the meals and the service, although the one waitrress could have done with some help tonight. read more

Worst service, inedible food. On a slow Saturday, non-peak... Waited 20 minutes for our drink order to be taken. When it came, another 20 minutes later, the waitress spilled them all over herself and the table (and laughed it off saying she does that all the time)... And she only brought 4 of 5 drinks. After 10 min we asked for the missing drink. Food arrived 75 min after we ordered.... Well, 4 of 5 plates... 3 of those were wrong and the 4th was so bad (chicken salad sandwich) that I went to my car and ate a protein bar instead. She asked if we needed anything else.... Yes, that 5th drink and meal.... It came 10 min later. And when it was time to pay, that took 20 min more. Seriously worst service and food in a long time! read more

Stopped by here one morning to grab breakfast after staying at south llano river state park and I have to say everything was perfect. I ordered a breakfast taco with bacon, cheese, potatoes, and salsa with an extra side of bacon and it was delicious. Not only was the burrito fcooked perfectly but the salsa they have is a1. Waitress was really friendly and very attentive, not to mention she was absolutely gorgeous! I also like the atmosphere in the restaurant too very cool vibe, and the restrooms were very well kept. I think it's safe to say I'll definitely be stopping by here next time I'm in town and you should too. read more
