Bad customer service. Told 3 times over 6 months that my credit refund check had been mailed. Called a 4th time to be told that the check had been mailed to the NH Treasury DEPt where I could apply for it anthem when processed and approved to allow up to 90 days for delivery. I switched to Irving from a different company and I have mixed feelings about them. They have been responsive which is good, and my propane cost is lower, again good -- BUT I had one of their services techs service my rinnai because it squeaks. I was told I needed a new part for the fan. Great, I replaced it and it still makes the same noise. They came back to check it out again and said they couldn't help me. So $650 later I still have the same problem. Makes me really angry and there is nothing I can do about it. My advice, don't take their word for what is wrong! I wanted to give an update, Irving is going to credit me the $650 towards a new rinnai. I guess the polite squeaky wheel got a great outcome! So I just changed the review to a 4 star read more

SHOCKINGLY bad goes to worse. (See review from September 9th) On Sunday Dec 5th, we ran out of propane. Irving had finally installed a new tank about 4 weeks earlier. Apparently, new tanks ship with little or no propane due to DOT regulations. Irving should have sent a truck to fill the new tank but they never did. I first called Irving around 9:00am on Sunday after discovering we were out of propane. The call history is abhorent so suffice it to say I had to call around 12 times that day. I finally got Evan, a manager, on the phone around 3 in the afternoon. He assured me "Brad" would be coming out with a temp 100 gal tank to get us heat and hot water until Ivring could get a truck out ot fill the tank. I told Evan I wanted an eta for Brad. I said, "Do not leave me in the dark for the next 2-3 hours." I waited 2.5 hours, no Brad. So, I called back the 800# and after being on hold for 25 minutes, I was told Brad isn't coming because there are no temp tanks available. So, even the manager failed to follow up with us and keep us updated. We finally got a propane delivery around 8:00pm that night. I left a message for the Rochester office and I told a call center rep that I expected a follow up call from a manager on Monday so I could understand how this happened so we can NOT run out of propane again this winter. It's been 4 days since and we've not received a follow up phone call from Irving. The #1 priority for a energy company providing home heating fule is to make sure customers DON"T RUN OUT OF PROPANE. Irving failed. Bad customer service is one thing but to fail completely and allow a customer to run out of propane is unforgiveable. Side note, we have prepaid for the entire season's propane. It was easier for Dorthy to see the wizard of Oz than it is to get anyone from Irving. I've lodged a complaint with the BBB, next with a state agency. Irving hides behind the "I can't talk to you" because you're not asking the right questions. As a retired HVAC tech I can tell you, stay away from Irving propane services. O read more

I would not recommend this company for your heating oil in Portland because I don't think their service is on par with the amount of money they receive from their customers. I'm renting a house and the landlord didn't shut off his Irving Energy heating oil account when I moved in, so they continued delivering every month automatically. It took a few months for me to figure out this was happening. I kept checking the fuel gauge expecting to need to order oil, but it didn't appear to move. I figured the house was strangely efficient (despite being drafty as f). I was wrong about that. One day I was at home and happened to catch an Irving truck filling up my tank. A few days later I received a bill from the landlord. I called Irving, paid the bill---this went on a couple more months. The landlord would send a bill and I'd call Irving and pay it. One month I got a huge bill over $1000; it had been sub zero degrees out a lot of days. Since the bill was enormous it took a couple weeks to come up with the cash. I called it in. I think it might have been a few days past the due date, not sure, since Irving wouldn't give me invoices (or tell me when they were coming). The month after the huge bill we ran out of oil. I came home in the evening and the house was absolutely freezing. I had to put the kids in the car to warm them up. Irving had apparently decided to stop automatically delivering to my house. I don't know whether the landlord shut off the oil account without telling me, or whether Irving was furious about the bill being a week or two late and dumped us, but no one notified me from either end and I wasn't in the habit of checking the gauge anymore. So I had to find emergency fuel oil that night and pay an extra fee for delivery. I understand why Irving would not want late payments on a credit account. And if the landlord decided to turn off a utility and failed to notify me, that was a dick move and not Irving's fault. But if Irving wants new accounts, probably the best way to attract them is *not* to let someone simply run out of fuel without notice. Irving could have left a note on the door with that final delivery, or they could have mailed a flyer out once the landlord's account was closed. I definitely would've signed up for an account with them. I'd have appreciated the notice so we could've avoided that bad night. This would have secured me as a loyal customer. I'm paying 500-1000 bucks per month to heat this place and that money could be going to Irving. But yeah, no. read more

The customer service is terrible! If you get disconnected and they know they're talking to you you won't get a call back I had to call three times the other day and the person in delivery "Deborah" hung up on me and was extremely rude and not willing to send out my bill when I asked why it wasn't left in the tank as there was a note on the account to do so. She couldn't tell me how much my bill was going to be. Completely rude after three phone calls trying to talk to a manager who knew it was me they never even called back good luck trying to get someone to take care of a problem!! This lady was trying to get me to call back instead of helping me out like why should I even take the time to call several times to just to get my bill?? Extremely frustrating that they don't respect the notes that are written down on the account. And then they used to say they couldn't leave the bill in the tank because of covid but yet they can walk over to the tank and fill it outside with no one around but they can't walk back to leave the bill because of covid, that makes a lot of sense!!! I would never in a million year recommend this company to anyone. My 75 year old mother has a propane furnace with Irving. Has faithfully prepaid with them every year. On Sept 12th she called because the pilot light wouldn't stay lit. It is now 11/19/19 and after 12 phone calls it is still broke. They have given every excuse under the sun. the part is back ordered. the manager has left for the day. We promise we'll call you back. They have sent only two people there in this 2 month time frame and each time the part is broken or re-broken. She was staying warm with a portable electric heater. In October we lost electricity. When we called to see if they could possibly rush the order they told her to stay with a relative to keep warm. On Nov 14th they replaced the part but installed a natural gas orifice instead of a LP gas orifice. In the middle of the night she woke up gasping for air. She fell down and hit her forehead while trying to escape to the door. She then stayed in her car to keep warm until she could get them to answer the phone. They told her to go to the rear of the house and turn off the LP Gas line. Keep in mind this is 2am in the morning in Northern NH at 20 degrees. They arrived about 6:30am and tried to make the part work and again broke it. The person PROMISED her she would receive an emergency visit. It is now Nov 19th and I am on hold again. Spent 60 minutes on hold yesterday as well. I am truly amazed this place is in business. They definitely will be hearing from an attorney. read more
