We headed here on a Sunday morning and it was very quiet. We ended up upgrading our tickets for a few bucks each to "premiere" seats. These seats had adjustable head rests, wider arm rests, and seat warmers. There were dividers to the sides of the seat for added privacy, a coat hanger, and a little spot for storing bags. I thoroughly enjoyed these seats and would happily get the upgrades again in the future. I had no complaints about the picture or sound quality of the movie and the theater was at a good temperature.

The boardwalk overlooks the Fraser River and with the tall buildings of New Westminster to the opposite side. The boardwalk (not all of it actual boards) extends from near the Patullo Bridge to Waterfront Esplanade Park. Not at all crowded with people though plenty of stuff to look at with captions along the way that provide some local history and geology. Several benches along the way, too! Is biking allowed? It is in Fare Zone 2 and has side platforms, so doors open on the right. The station was completed in 1985 and received an extensive remodel/rebuild in 2012 when it opened as part of the Shops at New West center. Shops at New West has restaurants, supermarket, a cinema and lots of retail spending opportunities. There is a bus stop here with connections on a dozen or so lines. Escalators and elevators are here as the station is fully handicapped accessible. It is above ground and somewhat protected from the elements. The place consists mostly of small businesses, with easy SkyTrain platform access. There's a bit of everything in there, such as banks and fast food. There's even a supermarket (Safeway) attached. My favourite part is the caged (suicide-proof) bridge that crosses over the tracks. Great for watching the trains go by while reflecting on life.

it's funny to think the day started with questionable navigation and the very real possibility of…read moreending up in surrey. fortunately, a perfectly timed, well executed uturn changed our fate. instead, we found ourselves at westminster pier park, and what a happy accident that turned out to be. nestled along the fraser river, the park offers a beautiful waterfront walk with sweeping river views, wide boardwalks, landscaped gardens, and plenty of places to sit and watch the world go by. it's hard to believe that much of the park was devastated by a major fire in 2020 and later rebuilt. today, it feels fresh, vibrant, and full of energy, with thoughtful design that blends play spaces, green spaces, and the waterfront into one inviting destination. the walk itself was lovely. we strolled along the boardwalk in the warm sunshine, spotted a blue heron near the water, and watched city workers planting colourful garden beds that added even more life to the scenery. between the passing tugboats, river traffic, and ever changing views, there was always something to catch our attention. the playground was an unexpected highlight. what started as a quick look quickly turned into a full blown play session. we lounged in the hammocks, laughed at how difficult they were to get out of, climbed into the twirly spinning round bucket that propel ourselves around using nothing but our body weight, and bounced on the spring loaded seesaws like a couple of kids who had completely forgotten about acting their age. the playground is thoughtfully designed for all kinds of play, making it just as enjoyable for adults rediscovering their inner child as it is for the kids it was built for. we got free parking, a great lunch, beautiful views, lots of laughs, and a reminder that sometimes the best days are the ones you never planned. all in all, it turned out to be a much better adventure than the one the gps seemed to have planned for us.

This is a man made park that was built for residence of New West. I don't come to New West often…read morebut am surprised that this park existed and I don't know about it. Its a mirror of the downtown coal harbour seawalk. It has a pretty nice stretch from one end to the other. So what's interesting here: -There are hammocks set up for people to relax -There are sun loungers that flip from one end to the other depending where you want to face -Volleyball courts for small gatherings -A nice green area for people who just want to sit in the sun -A kids play area -A nice path for walkers like me. This is a very well laid and thought through park. Lots of design ideas has been put into it. I am impressed.

Off least dog park - 1 star Probably one of the more unkept…read moreoff-leash dog parks I've been to. It is very muddy. No gravel, no cedar mulch, barely any grass on the edges. Oh and there were at least 3 dog poop piles not picked up. The actual park outside of the dog area is a really nice park though - 4 star.

We have had many BBQs for years here and now they place these oppressive signs in front of us. This is an attack on our freedoms and we should have the right to enjoy a family BBQ if we want. They cant tell me what i can and cant do. Just because there are wild fires and some people throw cigarettes on the ground should not be an excuse for families not to have a grill. Does this mean we can never have a BBQ ever again??? I dont think so, if i want to have a BBQ or a cigarette i will because i have the freedom and choice to do so. If you dont like it deal with it.

This park, located at the foot of Cumberland Street, is a pretty place to walk along the Fraser…read moreRiver and to wave at the frequent trains that go by. It also has a bit of dark history - the fishing pier and old house near the entrance were formerly where prisoners were brought in via the river to the old BC Pen across Columbia Street. But even if you know that, it's still a peaceful park to visit. Even on a sunny day, very few venture across the railway tracks to visit, so every time I come here, I've got the place practically to myself. The path is nicely landscaped and has a number of wooden bridges that make good stopping points to enjoy the view of the Fraser River in all it's working glory - tugboats, seabirds, log booms - with the mighty Golden Ears and Mt Baker in the distance. The only real problem is that, as of yet, the path abruptly ends at Front Street. Narrow and travelled heavily by freight trucks, it's not safe to walk further along the road. So, you must either turn back along the path, or walk along the paved trail that runs alongside the railroad tracks back to the beginning. This can be fun if there's a train going through, especially one of the Rocky Mountaineer trains, full of people who like to wave hello to me and my cute dog. Someday, I really hope that this park will be part of a much longer waterfront trail. That would be awesome.

Sapperton Landing is only accessible by vehicle if you're traveling east on East Columbia through a ramp down exit. The park's entrance is located at the intersection of East Columbia and Cumberland, but you can't enter the park by vehicle via Cumberland. The closest intersection to drive into the park is Richmond Street and East Columbia Street. By foot, you can easily get into the park off of East Columbia and Cumberland. It's a ten minute walk from the Sapperton SkyTrain Station, but be careful that you don't get ran over on Columbia by the many souls rat running through New West to avoid the Port Mann tolls. As far as picking blackberries as mentioned in the previous review, I wouldn't do it. The Metro Vancouver employees are constantly spraying herbicide.

Neat little community theatre in New Westminster. It's basically a high school auditorium. I mean…read morethis literally. Parking is quite strange here. The high school lot doubles as venue parking, but the lot is shared with the adjacent skating rink (Moody Arena) outside, and those Moody spots CANNOT be used. Be careful and avoid getting ticketed or towed. As mentioned, this theatre is actually the auditorium of New Westminster Secondary School. The lobby is a school corridor, and they use security fences (similar to those in shopping malls) to keep the masses out of the rest of the school. The auditorium itself is quite beaten up, but I'm sure it has its share of local history. The accoustics are, well, similar to that of a high school auditorium. In other words, amusingly crappy, but expected. Don't expect the likes of the Orpheum or QE Theatre here. My friend and I had a lot of fun at the concert. This venue also seems to host quite a bit of local talent, as one of the performers I watched that evening actually attended this high school. Good to know that there's some nice local entertainment around here. Keeps the kids (and seniors in this case) out of trouble.
