I've tried their food since they first opened, and it was a bad experience from the start. The food smelled awful, and the receptionist wasn't welcoming--she even tried to argue with us. I ordered kabob and stew to go, but when I got home, I had to throw them away because they smelled and tasted so bad. For years, I never went back, but recently, our friends invited us there, so we felt forced to go. Unfortunately, nothing had improved. Most people seem to praise this place only because they're friends with the owner. The food arrived late and cold, and the quality was terrible. The kabob was gray instead of the nice red-brown color it should be, and the baghali polo barely had any herbs in it. The only good thing was their use of nice serving plates, but that's not enough to save the experience. To top it all off, the bathroom was dirty. Came here for a work lunch meeting and it was a very good decision. They sat us promptly, and we picked items from the lunch menu and WOW! I can't believe I got all that food for 14 bucks. I was actually able to get the cucumber salad vs the house salad. The appetizers had names I've never heard before but were familiar flavors: yogurt with scallions, egg plant, etc. The price was more than fair and we didn't have to wait forever to be served. I heard from local Iranians, this new place is the best in OC so I had to give it a try. It's amazing! The atmosphere, service, and food are perfect. It's so nice to enter a restaurant that's seems almost over staffed while the place was nearly full. We were attended too regularly, and the food was decadent. I highly recommend the yogurt, and fish-two items I normally wouldn't order but they did a great job of them both here. The Soltani, my go-too Iranian dish, was perfect. I ordered the combo of chicken and koobideh - the food came out cold and while the server was great about reheating it, it did take a while for her to come back and get it. The one thing that was kind of gross is the smell. As one reviewer wrote, it smelled like the sewer. I don't think it's quite that but it smells like cleaning fluid in a bathroom. It's a beautiful redecoration from when it was that Italian restaurant ages ago, but I can't go back for either the mediocre food or the strange smell. Oh my yum yum! Someone recommended this restaurant to me when I was complaining about getting sick of cooking and in need of a solid healthy family meal. Today was the day that I decided to give myself a break from cooking and try. I called to place my order snd made sure they offer curbside (this is a must for me during the pandemic). They said they do offer curbside (two thumbs up) and my order would be ready in 20. My family of 4 loved the food I brought home! The chicken was tender and melt in your mouth good. Our family made a reservation for a party of 6 people for my daughter's birthday. The place was extremely crowded and the wait staff seemed efficient. We ordered the white fish platter, two chicken koubideh, a veggie platter, the lamb leg and the lamb chops. The food was delicious and the manager came and took excellent care of us after one of her waitstaff saw me writing on YELP. The problem was that 5 of us got our food served in a timely manner but my poor 95 age husband had to wait 20 minutes more for his very tasty lamb chops which were delicious BTW, but we still didn't understand why all of our food didn't or couldn't be served at the same time. This was very disturbing, especially since it was a special celebration for my daughter's birthday. After we showed our displeasure, (my husband hates to complain but he was annoyed), bc he was still eating while we were finished, the manager (Mali) came up to me and asked me to please cancel my YELP review bc she didn't feel that it was necessary due to the fact that every restaurant has its glitches now and then so would I please excuse it just this once and take it off. So I said I would, but now after spending a night listening to my family complaints, I changed my mind. It's unfortunate that my 5 review from 3 years ago is now a 2! On our last visit we were seated in the patio. After 10 minutes I had to go inside to get a waiter/waitress to come and just "start" the service for our table! When they originally opened 3 years ago, they were great in every aspect but as they got busier and busier the service became more and more subpar! The koobideh kabob is nothing close to eat it used to be. It's unfortunate that they lose grasp of their original "mission". They are so busy most of the time that they don't care about the service and food quality. We've been long time customers but this was a very disappointing visit. read more
