Friends and I consider Irish 31 one of our favorite spots to hang out. It's a great place to watch football and has the perfect vibe. I love that it's casual, but still in a good area, and being in Hyde Park is a big plus since there's always a lot of action and people around. We always get the pretzel and the boneless chicken wings with the sweet Thai chili sauce. Those two appetizers are our absolute favorites and we get them every single time. We frequent this place so much that the servers know us by name, which really says a lot. The service is always great. We love sitting outside, watching football, and just hanging out. I found it difficult to find a vegan option here, but with the vegetarian wrap, I was asked if I wanted to switch the normal dressing with a vinaigrette (vegan) so I thought that was nice. As far as the meal itself, the fries were unsalted and the wrap was decent. I would order something else (if I could) if i came back! But as far as having something to eat, the meal was at least solid foods. I also know I came here previously, not vegan, and I really enjoyed my meal. What a gem of a spot in Hyde Park! Whenever I'm visiting somewhere new, I always try to call into an Irish or British pub; I like to see how 'home' is represented away from home. I wish I knew about the Irish 3.1 running club in advance! I was here on a Wednesday, so it'd have been perfect (essentially, runners meet, go for a 5k run, and then come back for a bit of socializing.) Nevertheless, I was able to sit outside and listen to the live music they had. Had the Irish 31 Chicken (I've probably got its name wrong, but the two pieces of chicken with the power greens.) We came here on a Friday night and we got lucky that Nikki was our server - she was friendly and attentive and helpful with any of our questions about the menu. My drink was tasty and not too sweet - the veggie burger was really good, too. We sat at one of the inside tables by the bar but as we were leaving we spent a few minutes enjoying the live acoustic guitar singer playing on the outdoor patio - this is a fun place! read more

Again, I had Muffin (my shih tzu) so I had to sit outside. I managed to snag a spot outside, and a few beats later, my server brought me out my menu. I've been here before, and I remember loving the Shepard's Pie here, so it was the obvious choice for me to get. I didn't take long at all for the food to arrive. I love this classic dish. Hearty ground beef with peas and carrots (so it can somewhat resemble healthy food and add a pop of color, of course) savory gravy, and creamy mashed potatoes, all baked and topped with a generous helping of cheese. Everything was perfectly layered and portioned so that I got the perfect balance of all the textures from the meat, veggies, and potato with cheese in one bite. It was a bit sweeter than most I've had but still very good. They muddle a cherry and a piece of orange along with a sugar cube in the glass prior to pouring the cocktail in. Fun Irish pub in Hyde Park. Parking can be a little hard, but great location. I had the fish and chips and my date had the burger topped with corned beef. The food was good, but the noise from the live music outside was almost unbearable. We literally couldn't hear either one speak at the table and I'm not that old. I visited Irish 31 twice in the last week after not going for quite some time. I was pleasantly surprised this week. I am giving Irish 31 four starts for several reasons but quality of food is not one of them. I want to make this very clear in the beginning. This pub has a great happy hour, I enjoyed the 2-1 house red (Cabernet) last night. Happy hour ended at 7:00. My husband ordered a beer on happy hour. I was pleasantly surprised by the wine pour, always happy when it does not look like they only pour 3 ounces in the glass... The menu is large and offers a nice variety and they actually have a good mix of barfood and decent salads. A respectable salad is hard to find on a typical pub menu. All of the food options are fairly priced, so you will not break the bank here. This is why I visited twice this week. And yes, they have fish and chips! Irish 31 offers, good service, fair prices, a great atmosphere to just hang out and relax, and a wide menu selection. Do visit if this is what you are looking for. It was hot as monkey balls outside so we decided to stop in and get a few drinks and some appetizers. They have $6 cocktails all day every day! You can get a mixture of Nolet's Silver Gin, Ketel One vodka, Crown Royal, or Captain Morgan's rum. You can mix it with any soda or any juice for $6. I got the crown with root beer. I felt adventurous! LOL! It tasted pretty good! My sis got the kettle one with tonic and lime. We ordered the gyro flatbread. It's grilled pita bread topped with cool tzatziki sauce, chicken, shredded romaine lettuce, diced tomato and red onion with a splash of Greek dressing. It wasn't heavy at all. It was light and just enough for two to share. Aaaaand, it was only $6.50.  You can't beat the price. In fact everything that came out looked really good including the chicken wings and the boxty balls. The service was a bit slow but the bathrooms were clean and the vibe in the place was friendly and chill. Overall it was a good experience. I would stop by again for lunch or dinner sometime.
