Great food. Great service. Lots of meal choices (more than in Japan). Price very reasonable.

During the weekends and prime dinner times on weekdays, this place gets packed. I would come here during weekday lunch times to take advantage of the fact that there were no lines (in the Bay Area, lines look like the ones for Disneyland rides -- long and out the door). The restaurant is spacious but because it's in the mall, you do get some background noise from the foot traffic outside. Seating here is abundant and staff are mostly on top of service. My favorite ramen here is always the Red King. I have a high tolerance for spicy food, so when I ask for a level 10, staff always ask me a second time to confirm. It is SO DIFFICULT finding actual spicy food here in QC, so knowing that Ramen Nagi stays consistent across countries brought me some comfort. I needed my noodles firm and my soup garlicky and spicy enough to make me break a sweat. If I'm ever back in QC, this is basically my residential Ramen Nagi -- I recommend it to anyone looking for some real spice while in the area.

High chairs are available for kids and adults and establishment delivers via FoodPanda. BEVERAGE We had hot and cold tea by accident so what we did was consume the cold one during the meal because the ramen was hot. Then I had the warm tea to feel relaxed after getting full. FOOD Signature Happiness Ramen (shoyu tonkotsu broth ramen topped with tender, slow-braised custom cut soft bone pork rib) was umami with a tasty broth, acceptably hard noodles, a very generous serving of tender beef, and a cute strip of seaweed with some Kanji written on it. I'd strongly recommend this dish for the quality of the beef. Teriyaki Beef Tapa Rice Bowl (angus beef slices, homemade teriyaki, garlic, sunny-side up egg, salsa, gari, spiced vinegar on rice) was an interesting approach to combining Japanese and Filipino brunch, and the quality of the beef was, indeed, special but a bit pricey for me. The sweet taste of beef was pleasant but the ramen gave me more value. SERVICE We were informed that the Signature Happiness Ramen "whole" size, Ebi Tempura and free kaedama or noodles weren't included in Zomato Gold. Claiming perks was smooth! Because of the relay of messages, we accidentally received hot and cold tea but we were totally okay with it; can't waste good tea!

If it's your first time, try their famous signature Happiness Ramen. It costs Php 480 a bowl and the serving is big enough for three kids to share. Or two adults. Or one ramen-lover like me. The pork is soft and the broth can be oily but then again that's the point. It's just good. You have the option to add tamago to your bowl (for an additional fee) and I strongly recommend you do that. It's good enough on its own though. They don't have much in their menu but thankfully they have gyoza. I mean how can a ramen place not have gyoza? The two have been married since time immemorial. Okay I'm exagerrating. But really, get some gyoza too. They're really good.

Located on the Sky Garden near The Block, not many people pass this area, and during lunch time, the sun shines directly on it with a glare. I had lunch at 1pm and the place was almost empty. The emptiness created doubts if the food is good. They offer ramen, teppanyaki, tempura, gyoza, and some Japanese salads, a little something for everyone. Confused on what to order, I got something safe - Chashu Ramen, the basic of ramens. I also ordered their 4-pc pork gyoza. For people who know me, I am never a fan of chashu. I always donate it to interested friends whenever I ordered one. Taisho's Chashu blowed me away. It was melt-in-your-mouth-tender, like a hot knife through butter. I am glad there was a lot of slices because it is so addicting. The first thing you check in a ramen is the aroma of the soup, and the ramen I ordered was fragrant. The soup was very tasty as well. I finished the entire bowl. The pork gyoza is also special, and it is served along with a pile of shredded cabbage with sesame dressing. The dumpling is juicy and has a soupy filling, much like a xiao long pao. The staffs are great. They greet you in Japanese when they are going to serve you and when they give you the bill. Price is also worth the value, a little cheaper than most ramen houses around. Definitely a good place to fill up without spending a lot.

Whether its a new kind of toppings for your ramen or your classic gyoza, Hanamaruken gots you. Missing my ramen fix since I left Okinawa, my sister recommended this place and folks, it did not disappoint. Although ramen is really not allowed in my diet, today I had to cheat. I ordered the happiness ramen with some oh so juicy meat with some tamago (eggs). The broth tasted like porks broth and a seaweed on the side can make you go ohh lala. I also ordered some tempura. It had the perfect crunchy texture and soft interior which was juicy and flavorful. The crunchy head of the shrimp was just something I miss. I would definitely recommend this place, after a long day shopping in the mall and just have a warm broth in your belly.

When I first got wind of Hanamaruken Ramen in Trinoma, I was interested. I researched more about the establishment and it was supposedly an old ramen restaurant from Japan, so it has a pedigree. Yes, I'm shallow. Their very first franchise in the Philippines was in Trinoma so it was a godsend for us northerners. We immediately tried it out to see if it was up to snuff with the ramen bigboys already in Manila. Their specialty, the Happiness Ramen, is extremely expensive. It actually made me apprehensive to order it, but I just winged it and I'll never look back again. It was one of the best bowls of ramen I've ever tasted and it has an enormous short rib floating in the middle to fill you up. If you're from the North and want a nice bowl of ramen that's actually good, Hanamaruken is worth the trip.

That branch as long closed down, and most branches nowadays can be found in major shopping malls like this one at SM North Edsa. One afternoon spent strolling around SM "The Block" made me end up at Rai Rai Ken for lunch. I went through the menu and I felt that what the place had to offer had great value. I ordered some tuna and salmon sashimi, as well as some ebi tempura accompanied by a bowl of rice. Well, as the saying goes, you indeed get what you pay for. I've had better Japanese food before, but I really couldn't complain because the prices were pretty cheap. I don't see myself being back anytime soon, but I'll keep this location in mind just in case I desperately need a quick sashimi fix when strapped for cash.

Or most seafood, for that matter. Not that they don't have non-seafood ramen. They do have quite a lot of flavors to choose from. I almost ordered donburi but I instead blurted out Yakiniku to the waitress. So yay, ramen with grilled meat. I then asked for a choco banana shake. It didn't take them a long time to serve my ramen, although the place was packed. All I can say about the food is this: I've tasted better ramen. But one could argue that this place offers less price a bowl, which is true. I think it's safe to say that the ramen they offer is quite decent considering the price, which shouldn't be a turn off for most people on a budget. The shake, well, they served me a banana shake instead of the choco banana I ordered. I think the lady misheard because I was quite clear about what I was ordering. Nonetheless, the banana shake was very good. A good banana shake! It's pretty rare (for me, at least) to find a restaurant that serves good smoothies. I just wish I got a taste of the choco banana one, which might infinitely be better than what they served. Oh well. Maybe next time.

See, this area has around 3 reliable vegetarian/vegan restaurants, and among one of them is this glorious Wabi Sabi branch. I've been a long-time customer of their Makati branch, but this place was just so delightful. For one, it was much nicer than their place in The Collective--brick walls, warm lighting, and with a playlist that includes Asobi Seksu, you just can't complain. Actually, I can't complain about anything during my stay. Sure, the whole place was packed with senior citizens lunching on a Sunday, but it just proves how Wabi-Sabi has captured the tastebuds of everyone, not just retired hipsters (Lol) such as myself. I loved my bowl of Viet Pho, a mushroom-based broth noodle soup that comes with crunchy faux pork bits. If you want something warm and light on a rainy day, this is perfect. Other recommendations: Their okonomigyoza is AMAZING. The Banh Mi is a must (you can have it vegan- just specify so they can use the vegan mayo). Vietnamese ca phe is always a good choice, but my all-time favorite is their lemongrass iced tea. Oh, and the service here is far more friendlier and faster than the Makati branch. They whipped up my pho 5 minutes after I ordered it!
