Stay away from this shop! They wouldn't accept a return for a Christmas gift that was too small. Had the receipt, but was told the item was on sale and those sales are final - no returns or exchanges. Nothing said it was on sale and nothing on the receipt reflected this 'policy'. And, they knew when I purchased this item, it was a Christmas gift - they neglected to tell me anything then, either. Nothing in the store mentions this 'policy'. I think this is just bad business and a way for them to just make very sale final. And, the lady in there was just rude, blurting their policy in my face and blaming the owner. So, so lame. The middle ground is a wonderful thing. I've found many funky skirts and tops here that are cool to wear for a day at the office and then directly out for a night on the town. The quality is superb, and with a little bit of conscious care, your things will last for years. There are lots of accessories and jewelry jam packed into this little shop as well, and prices are reasonable for the aforementioned longevity of use. Much like building exteriors, our bodies have the opportunity to imply the honest expression of the space (or character) inside while responding to the contextual and environmental issues on the exterior. Ipnosi is a hip little clothes/accessories boutique up on the heart of NW 23rd. It's a must-stop for me whenever I'm in the neighborhood. They have great, unique and fashionable clothes. In fact, gasp, as I look down right now I'm wearing a sweater I bought there a year ago and it's still one of my faves. The staff is friendly and helpful and they have a wide range of clothes from very casual to very dressy. It's a little spendy for the quality of the clothes - but if you're looking for a better deal - hit up the sale rack in the back of the store which always has some goodies or go over to the east side and stop by the Ether Warehouse (owned by the same people) and their discount clothes are on a sale rack are sure to offer you some smashing deals! read more

If you're petite, this is not the place for you! Yes, Ipnosi has good clothes and accessories at great prices, but being 5 feet, the tops and hats didn't fit well. Also, the person at the cash register was extremely standoff-ish and snotty. When I asked her for some help, she gave me the I-don't-want-to-be-bothered look and was cold throughout my time there. I was so put off that I didn't feel comfortable asking her for more help in reaching some items on top shelves that were out of my reach. I don't recommend going to a place where the staff shows no inclination in helping customers. What horrible customer service! read more

I just tried to do a dress return. They wouldn't even give me a store credit.??? It was a Sale dress, but the girl who sold it to me never mentioned the sale items are final and non- returnable :(. It didn't have a belt and she didn't even find me one or offer to lower the price. ALL that - does not represent good Customer Service. Because I wasn't informed at purchase of this policy, I will never go there again. Who doesn't let you return these days? I will go to Fred Meyers next time, they return no matter what. This was important in particular b/c this dress was for my wedding and the sales girl knew that. I go here, like, a lot. I rarely buy anything at full price, because it so frequently ends up on the sale rack before I have a chance to wear it...but you can't hold it against them for always being on top of the trends and keeping it moving every week. The clothes are great, and often you can pick up styles that aren't in style yet, so they have great longevity, and they're like little fashion forecasters, I don't know how they do it, just a keen eye, I guess. My only complaint is that the clothes are rarely of the stretch-friendly variety, and haven't ever been in the 8 or so years that I've frequented the place, so TRY IT ON! don't trust things that look like they'll fit, take the time to actually squeeze into the little dressing room and make sure it fits:) read more

I have been going to this store off and on for many many years. It is also a hit or miss for me too. I have had times when I've gone in and found very cute items. Then other times there is nothing really worth buying. I do think certain items are over priced but I guess that's to be expected from a small boutique. As for the return policy and everyone bitching about it....they state "All Sales Final" on the receipt. They always have. I don't think the sales associate forgetting to mention that would be considered bad customer service. But more like bad customer acknowledgement of their receipt (Which you should be looking at before you leave the store! Duh!). I bought a cute astrological necklace here about a year ago, and am so so impressed! It's delicate and goes with everything, so I decided to make it my go-to jewelry piece, and it has held up amazingly. I've probably worn it 350/365 days of the past year, and no one would know cause it's in perfect shape. Withstands showers, pools, workouts, and 365 nights of tossing-and-turning sleep. When I bought it, I thought $20 was a little much for how simple it was, but I see know that the price is for the quality, which is spectacular! My review is 4 stars and not 5 because I've gone back to try and purchase another necklace several times in the past few months, and though each time the salesperson says they "just got new jewelry in", the selection remains the same (small). I really didn't anticipate shopping this neighborhood on a recent summer vacation in Portland. Stores like Restoration Hardware and the like are a clear indication that I'm out of my price range. However, my daughter caught sight of an adorable pin-up style dress with bicycles on it in a window we strolled by and begged to "just go in and look." We found maxi skirts, tie-die blouses, flowy cardigans and sundresses, and the most adorable printed leggings. There was only one sales associate there, but she was extremely helpful, finding us sizes and styles that suited what we were looking for. My daughter ended up with an adorable cold shoulder style tunic top and two pairs of leggings (one on sale for $10!) to match, and I actually found a skirt and a dress. I don't often find wearable clothes in cute little boutiques like this, but instead of being made to feel like an out-of-date mom (which is what usually happens in stores like this), I was made to feel like a valid customer interested in finding cute clothes. The service was friendly and attentive, pointing out things we might have missed and sale items. We can't wait to hit this little gem on our next visit! read more

I walk by this store often. The shop window always looks inviting however, the staff is not. I have been in this store a total of four times. I have never been greeted and only asked if I need assistance once. I did find two cute dresses. I get them home and they are too big. No worries, I can get my money back since the receipt and tags are intact. Right? No, return in 7 days for store credit $98 down the drain. For the folks that are saying, the return policy is on the receipt, when do you get that receipt? Post purchase. You aren't made aware until you have the receipt in hand. Terrible business! They won't allow returns cause you can buy anything from this store 50% CHEAPER online ... more specificly amazon! Tried to return cause my husband bought a few things and they flat out refused with the recipt and everything I perfect condition, my husband had purchased if the day before. The CC beanies are $12.00 on amazon they charge $26.99!!!! The scarfes are also $12.00 online they charged $32.95!!!! I understand business need to make money but these mark ups are RIDICOULOUS! And if you buy in bulk exactly from the manufacturer of these Chinese businesses (which is not fair market) they are looking pretty of at least a 70-80% mark up on their clothing.... ya thanks.. no thanks! This store is very hit or miss for me. The hits are their sales. I've found amazing dresses for $10-20 dollars, compared to the original prices of $50-80, and for that I am truly thankful that this storefront exists. I have had a few experiences where the sales clerks have just been on their phones/talking to each other instead of helping when I've needed it, and I think that's a bit ridiculous, but overall, the staff is friendly and willing to help. There are definitely a few brands that you can find online for 30% less of what Ipnosi charges, but typically their pricing is fair. read more

This was my reaction to the wares at Ipnosi, which consisted mainly of pretty shirts, pretty dresses, and pretty jewelry (especially the jewelry - sales move me) at reasonable prices for Trendy-Third Ave. Ooh. When I originally went to this store I absolutely loved it. Their items are a little spendy but I always prefer quality over quantity when purchasing clothing. I bought a navy floral dress, a romper, and a black work shirt. The floral dress I was intending to wear for my white coat ceremony for medical school. I wore it for one other occasion and it has already fallen apart. I am not hard on my clothing and did not wash it. The hem of the dress is coming undone and another thread in the middle of the dress came loose as well. It will eventually have a massive hole right in the middle of the dress. I am really disappointed in the quality of the clothing at this store. They are very clear about their return policy. All clothing must have tag, receipt, and be returned within 7 days. I wish I could get a refund as I spent $60 on this dress. I would not recommend shopping here. read more

I stopped in here because I liked the look of the comfy looking scarves and flowing dresses in the window. I found a lightweight, oatmeal colored hoodie for $36 and tried on a few other tops. Their sales prices are fair but I don't think I'd spend more than $50 at a store with such a rigid return policy. I must say that said policy is on a placard at the counter and my receipt so there weren't any surprises when I went to make my purchase. Four stars because I got a ridiculous super hero cat shirt for $20, less two stars, one for each "no-no" the sales girl reprimanded me for. If you decide to shop here and wish to do so without receiving similar slaps on the wrist, please do not forget to bring the hangar to the register when you purchase your item, and definitely do not pull a shirt on over your clothes at the rack outside their store to see if it fits prior to purchasing it. I almost want to give back one star for the sales girl's balls for doubling down when my husband asked if she just said that I had committed another "no-no." Perhaps management can post around the store policy she referred to so that I can shop here in the future without making a similar gaff. Having enjoyed most of my tax-free shopping in the downtown area, I am glad I made a stroll down 23rd. I didn't know what to expect of the little boutique stores in Portland, but found Ipnosi to be really cute! Price Wise- clothes here were decently priced. Think a mix of Francesca's closet/F21/HM and some Urban Outfitter. I am sure you can find some stuff here even if your budget starts at $5. They had a good sale goin on outside their store, and I was happy to find a crochet tee for around $10. Other items I saw in store were cute blazers priced at $30-$50. Bad customer service. After getting home, I realized they didn't take the sensor tag off. Went back a week later without the receipt because I no longer had it. The sensors didn't go off the time I bought it or the time I went in to ask to have the sensor ... They then were uncooperative with taking the sensor off. I tour boutiques in every city I pass through, and was delighted to find Ipnosi. It was really reasonably priced, with distinct pieces and some designers/lines I had never seen before. The sales associate, Marni was super cute and really helpful. Contrary to a previous review-- you can totally shop here if you're petite. You can also bring your boyfriend, because their mens racks are awesome as well. I walked out with a new maxi skirt and sweater and my boyfriend got two tees! I'll definitely stop back if I'm in Portland again. read more

I like it because its still one of the moderately priced stores on 23rd. They seem to have a frilly collection..... they are good at picking out skirts, dresses and tops that are pretty and a little funky. The mens section is practically non existent and their accessories collection is getting a little out of control. The brands are usually generic, but I think that's what makes the prices ok. Its very small and waiting for a dressing room can be a pain. But the sale area is right next to the rooms so you can browse that while you're waiting. read more

I won't EVER support this business again unless it's return policy changes. I also will suggest to the person who bought my gifts to not continue supporting this business. They wasted nearly $100 on gifts that won't be used. I received 3 items for my birthday early January with the tags still on them ($48, $29 and $22) and Ipnosi refused to exchange the items. The Ipnosi sales person said they will only take items back with a receipt. These were GIFTS. Today I went to exchange a shirt my 10 year old daughter bought and it was way too small they would not exchange it for another shirt or credit towards something else. Yes on the receipt it says all sale items final, but not once did they tell my daughter you can not return. The clothes here are fashionable but low quality you have to be extremely petite to fit into and if you wash them they shrink. I have lived in the nob hill area for 6 years and have bought many items at store each time I am disappointed either in quality or customer service. Do not waste $ unless you buy items for less then $10 you can maybe take them to buffalo exchange in a month or so of wearing. read more

If I could give a negative rating I would. The clerk never informed me of the no refund return or exchange policy before I bought their crappy clothes. I tried to return a $64 dollar dress with a busted zipper two hours after I bought it. They refused to refund my money and give me anything as a replacement. Love this store!! They have a great collection of clothes, jewelry, scarves, and more. Its a super relaxing atmosphere, as theres like a small fountain in the middle. I live in another city, but had an appt. in the neighborhood, so walked down the street for a ways. Saw some "CUTE" things in the window...Went in and clerk immediately got me what I ask for and while checking out saw some cute earrings. Got them too. Prices were reasonable and fair for what I got. I read all of these reviews and some date back 4-5 years ago. Obviously, some of the staff no longer works there that people complained about, but in their defense, they need to make their return policy REALLY CLEAR. Sounds like a lot of people like men buying for wives, or friends buying for friends didn't understand the returning policy. If I were buying a gift for someone, it would definitely be at Nordstroms or Macy where no questions asked and further more attempt to help you find something else..especially Nordstroms....they're TOP rated for Customer service although spendy unless you hit a sale. I am planning to go back when I have more time and make it a day with my sisters and have lunch in the area. But it's a trip for us....but love little boutiques like that where they have unique things you don't see everyday. read more
