As a venue, The Basement 243 is only as good as whatever band or DJ is playing there. The venue…read moreitself lacks any real atmosphere and is more of a shell for whatever gig is going on. There are some couches available and pool tables down the back, as well as some archade games stuck in and around the place. Overall, however, this creates less of a particular feel for this club. Instead it is more of a hodge podge kind of place. The bar stocks spirits and beers but nothing out of the ordinary. Even so, I had the pleasure of attending a gig of local bands Martin Place and Hello Hokkaido in there recently and the venue seemed to pick up a bit with the good music. They even had some people up and dancing. I like places that support local talent and will keep an eye out for good bands that will be hitting the Basement 243 in the future but I don't think I will go strolling in anytime soon.

I have never been to a strip club but Basement 243 is the closest I have ever come to being in one…read more This strip-club-turned-music-venue makes a descent music venue for local bands that do not draw in too much of a crowd. Mainly alternative/punk/garage bands will play shows here. I came here for a gig a friend was hosting at had a pretty good time. As I walked down the stairs to the venue, I felt a bit excited and weirded out that I was going to what used to be a strip club, that feeling pretty much stayed with me the entire night which made the evening more interesting. The lighting in here is fairly dark with the use of blue and red lights to brighten up the place. There are a few arcade games and a couple of pool tables near the end of the room. The stage is not very big, nor is the viewing area but for the type of bands that were playing that night, it was a very appropriate size. That bar is nothing special, from memory there was nothing available on tap and not a large selection of drinks where on offer, I didn't mind though, I just had a few basic spirits. That was the first and only time I have been to Basement 243. Overall, I had a good night, it was pretty relaxed and the novelty of seeing bands play in a strip club made the night interesting. I do not think I would go there unless it were for a gig where I was familiar with the bands playing.

If I grew up in Brisbane and was looking for a place to throw my 10th birthday party, this place…read morewould be heaven. Actually, I am 21 years old and it is still heaven. I brought a friend from couchsurfing who'd been travelling through Brisbane for an activity that was fun and out of the ordinary. The walls were covered in futuristic paintings that looked like they'd been done back in the '80s and made me feel right at home. (I grew up in the 'burbs.) On the night we played, there were two separate birthday parties happening simultaneously, i.e. it was pure chaos. The staff there seemed to handle it very well, though, and were very helpful to us first timers. After we signed up, we received neat name tags with our laserforce identities that could be kept for future games. There's a clean, open area for adults to relax, as well as an arcade area for kids who are still hyped up on adrenaline and sugar. The actual laser force is the bomb. Sure, you're wearing sweaty helmets that stink of hormones and you're versing pre teens who will slaughter you the moment you hit the floor, but there's real joy in running around a giant warehouse shooting invisible lasers at each other. Come to Laserforce if you're looking to find your inner child, or if like me, you are actually still a child.

You know Lazerforce is badass when I couldn't even find a category to put it under…read more (Why is there no LAZERFORCE under Entertainment YELP??) I'm sure most everyones familiar with the concept of the game, but for those people not in the know (You sad sad humans) the premise is relatively simple. You are on a mission to kill or disarm as many baddies on the other team as you can. Cast all loyalties aside and watch the competitive natures come out in your friends or familia. (Coupled with an over blown lazer pointer cased in a plastic gun.) If you have kids DO make sure to introduce them to the lazer show on a saturday the place on weekends is heaving with kids and they will make a bunch of friends in no time. If you are an adult DO make sure to stay as far away from this place as possible on a saturday these kids are hocked up on slush puppies and sugar. They will eat your face if you get in their way. Tremendously fun for kids (and making for a hilarious experience when intoxicated.) I highly recommend paying this place a visit.

Just kidding, it's a puzzle room…read morewithout the Saw-style fear component but that doesn't mean you escape the adrenaline factor. Three themes based on storylines involving Brisbane include clues and codes to crack in order to unlock padlocks with the next piece of the puzzle. But you only have an hour to do it, and may be going head-to-head with another team. I loved the historical aspect and it was such a rush without leaving the group of us murderous toward each other. I'm interested to see how my partner and I would work together, so I've already booked us in for another room this weekend. The hosts are also lovely and accommodating, and clearly have a passion for historical Brisbane as well as the puzzle room genre. Escape Room is a must try!

THIS PLACE IS AWESOME!!…read more It's a great place for a unique experience with friends or team building with colleagues to test your sleuthing skills! We did the barber shop and it was challenging but so much fun. Everyone's strengths were contributed for solving the crime and it really makes you think outside the box. The guy who works there, Stephen was very helpful and professional getting right into the spirit of the game - which got everyone else charged and ready!! There's a real team player ethos about the tasks which is rewarded afterward :) The facilities are top notch too. Seriously this is an amazing activity that will prove a successful recipe for a cracking night out!! Expect the unexpected!! Happy solving!!
