I have never been to a strip club but Basement 243 is the closest I have ever come to being in one. This strip-club-turned-music-venue makes a descent music venue for local bands that do not draw in too much of a crowd. Mainly alternative/punk/garage bands will play shows here. I came here for a gig a friend was hosting at had a pretty good time.
As I walked down the stairs to the venue, I felt a bit excited and weirded out that I was going to what used to be a strip club, that feeling pretty much stayed with me the entire night which made the evening more interesting. The lighting in here is fairly dark with the use of blue and red lights to brighten up the place. There are a few arcade games and a couple of pool tables near the end of the room. The stage is not very big, nor is the viewing area but for the type of bands that were playing that night, it was a very appropriate size. That bar is nothing special, from memory there was nothing available on tap and not a large selection of drinks where on offer, I didn't mind though, I just had a few basic spirits.
That was the first and only time I have been to Basement 243. Overall, I had a good night, it was pretty relaxed and the novelty of seeing bands play in a strip club made the night interesting. I do not think I would go there unless it were for a gig where I was familiar with the bands playing. read more
