Now its…read moretriple canopy & AMk9 on Academi property owned by Constellis, but its still in the same spot its always been in since its inception. This time I stayed at the blackbear Inn which is nice but not as nice as the Inman Lodge just a few hundred feet away. The Inman is 2 man rooms & has a food vending machine, ice machine, soda machine & a nice laundry room that is free to use (actually both have that) Theres a pool table at the Inman but it costs money to use unlike the one over at the blackbear which has drop pockets so that one is free to use. Both lodges have nice courtyards to cookout in & just straight up chillax during your downtime. One wing of the blackbear is 4 man rooms & community showers/bathrooms you have to walk down the hallway to get to. The other wing is 2 man rooms that you share a bathroom/shower with an adjoining room so a tad bit nicer. Both lodges also have dvd's & movies & stuff to sign out & watch in your rooms or in the common areas but every room does have a tv with cable & wifi so thats pretty badass aint it?. Both lodges have super dooper awesome coffee always ready to drink with badass creamer available too & fridges to keep your food & drink in. The staff do an excellent job of keeping the rooms & the entire building clean, its not trump tower but its still very nice & comfortable so I dont mind staying here at all. The chow hall is always excellent with tasty delectable food & drink for EVERY friggin meal! Lots of ranges to shoot on that police/military/contractors from all over the country come to train & even from other countries. Each building also has a small gym which is nothing special but it definitely gets the job done. What a super crazy enjoyably fun amazingly incredible bitchin' badass place to stay!

I was lucky enough to know someone who worked here and got me on to the premises and allowed me to shoot their guns. Their shooting ranges are out doors and there are many of them. This is normally a Law Enforcement/Military training ground with some civilan courses in gun safety and marksmanship training. Off in the distance I could hear the automatic gun fire that some of the Navy Personel were fireing off. I asked if I could shoot an automatic and was declined because you have to be in Law Enforcment or in the Military. I would love to come back here again some time soon.

I am not an expert on guns, nor gun clubs, but my brother-in-law is a member here. When I come…read moredown to visit, this is one of the places we like to go together for a few hours of brotherly bonding. He has two Sig 9 mil handguns, and I get the opportunity to learn how to use them and shoot on an indoor range. Lafayette is off the beaten path, which is a no brainer given the noise generated by the weapons on the outdoor ranges. It gets loud. Inside, the range is well set up, and everyone associated with the club management is first class friendly and knowledgeable. They are also incredibly patient with a novice who keeps shooting up their clothespins and PVC target frames. Too bad I wasn't aiming at them. My exposure to these guns and people has really opened my eyes to the engineering and design that goes into making a shooting iron these days, and more importantly the culture surrounding it. I am very impressed with the combination of warmth and seriousness that the people I meet display. Men, women and kids at all skill levels interact in a friendly, respectful manner. The teaching of gun safety is ever present, and the willingness to accept guidance a clear indication that everyone understands that while shooting is a fun sport, it also requires high skill levels and an appreciation of the potential for destruction. Having checked it out a few times, I now bring my young teenage son with us to join in both the bonding and the shooting. He is a Star Boy Scout and already has taken safety courses and earned the merit badges associated with rifles and shooting. I was amazed that he knew what to do and can shoot with a steady hand. I just bought him a set of "Ears," and we have discussed our mutual interest in taking this further. Lafayette Gun Club is an excellent place to go (if you can get in) to learn and practice this sport, and see what goes into gunsport today. Why only 4 Stars? A snack bar and more comfortable waiting areas in and outside would do the trick.

Hurrah for guns! I mean, hurrah for Lafayette Gun Club! Located off of Route 17 on Dare Road it is…read morea little hidden away but worth the search. Down the winding path you go through the woods to the gates of one of the best target ranges on this side of the water. Lucky for me I know a range master who takes me shooting when I feel like it. Membership is pretty affordable (last I checked) and there are a lot of events and goings-on through the club. http://www.4lgc.org/ Everyone who frequents the club are very helpful and professional. Most of the people who go take shooting and gun safety seriously, so you don't have to worry about someone green to handguns flailing in the booth beside you. They have multiple ranges. Outdoor features a 50m safety range, 100m safety range, Trap range, Five-stand range and an Archery target area. Indoors they have "50 foot indoor range has 10 firing positions, motor-driven target carriers, complete projectile and residue containment, variable lighting, radiant strip heating and state-of-the-art Detroit Armor backstop. Firing positions are separated by lane dividers at the firing line and sound absorbing materials are liberally used to minimize noise to the shooters, the clubhouse proper, and surrounding areas. This excellent facility is open for members' use 24 hours per day, 7 days per week." I have been there quite a few times now and it normally isn't very crowded. You don't have to wait for a booth in the range. As long as you mind your P's and Q's you will have a great time!

Nicely organized and clean facility. I went to shoot with my brother. He has a membership here…read more which helps get priority booking for range time. It gets quite busy! I did not know they have an archery range here!! Otherwise, I might have invested in a compound bow years ago! Check-in was easy. I had to fill out a waiver since it was my first time shooting here at this range. You just go to the kiosks to the far left of the check-in counter. Be sure to have your Driver's license/ID with you because you will need it to type in the number when you check into the kiosk for the waiver. Plus you will need to turn it in at the check-in desk while you're in the range. You must have safety glasses and ear protection before entering the range. If you don't own any you can purchase safety glasses for $4. My brother loaned me his ear protection and he brought his own guns and ammo. You can purchase from a variety of targets that are against the wall to the right of the counters. Just state which number to the staff. They will give you a stapler to attach to the board in the range. Holy cow! Gunfire can get EXTREMELY LOUD and jolting in there depending upon who is firing what in there. Some dude was firing a weapon that felt like it shook the range and jolted my body. My brother told me what it was they were firing but I forgot. Me and this teenager laughed and looked at each other because MY GAWD, the sound and pressure of that weapon felt like a sonic boom. LOL. They have staff inside the range to change out the back boards if needed and to sweep up the shells to prevent tripping as well. Restrooms are available as well with many multiple stalls and were very clean.
