Canada line - the backbone of Vancouver (or at least a major artery). Compared to other public transit trains, I would have to put the Canada line near the top of the list. The Canada line is usually clean and reliable. On this trip, and several others, the passangers have been curtious and friendly. Overall, the Canada line is quiet and smooth. It still amazes me that there are no drivers actually on the train driving yet it is very safe. One thing I dislike about the Vancouver trains is the lack of sitting area, but i suppose it increases campacity. Overall, pretty happy. And as always, Have Fun (even on the train)!!! read more

What a coinkydink -- I was just standing outside in the rain, waiting for a bus after taking the Canada Line and I was wondering if I could rate Translink on Yelp! I'm with Jenni-O on the pros/cons, but as a daily commuter (d/t to richmond), I have a few more cons: -the passengers who don't make room for other people e.g. either they've got their bags on the 2nd seat, or because they're sitting in the aisle row, doing their makeup and oblivious to the rest of the world -the alternating airport/richmond trains. why do I have to wait six minutes (worst case) to catch a train to/from richmond proper during rush hour? Couldn't they have run a train back and forth to the airport and let people transfer at Brideport? (that would probably make the airport tariff easier to apply) I know there were some "passenger modelling issues", and Canada Line is already well beyond it's predicted ridership, but couldn't they decrease the intervals by 50% at peak hours? That would certainly make room for more commuters and increase ridership and revenues even more. -connecting buses. despite the great improvement in transit time from downtown to richmond compared to the 98Bline (was it only 5 months ago that I was on one of those scuzzy buses?), the bus connections have not improved in the slightest -- I still wait 10-20 minutes to catch a connecting bus. Couldn't Translink coordinate the buses with the trains? After all, they come at fixed intervals.. how about putting a light or something at the bus stations so bus drivers know to wait a few seconds before tearing off down the street because there's a train in the station? yeah, this sounds like a bit of a whining session... I'm really happy with the improved service, just hope it could be improved more. PS: I'm with you Joseph G. -- but that's what you get when you contract out to Brits :) read more

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE CANADA LINE. So convenient!! Runs directly from YVR International Airport to Downtown with many stops in between depending on your traveling needs. Probably one of the cleanest means of transportion I have ever been on. Runs every couple minutes so don't worry about running late anywhere. read more

I gotta admit, I enjoyed this transportation option in Canada. They were frequently coming and you get a free reentry within a certain time limit. Can get busy and packed, but luckily most people arent going far. Nice view as it is above the ground read more

Canada Line RULZ! And I cannot be happier that it came into existence as I can now trek to People's Republic of Richmond for authentic Asian cuisine and food court reminiscent of the ones overseas! Ever since I stopped having to travel to Richmond for work, I've totally missed the place but now with this line, this clean and spacious and super fast ride into Richmond, my cravings can once again be sated on a regular basis. Canada line rocks in many ways. First of all talk about clean and yes I know it will be a matter of time before the "people" smells start to reak up the train. Wide and luxurious. Seats awesome and we are talking tons of leg room and very nicely done. State of the art when it comes to smooth. We are talking smoother than a babies bum as the train hugs the track without so much as a bump. Signs are large and clear and while the timing was a bit off, it wasn't anything to complain about. What I did notice is the uniforms of the Canada Line attendants....green. I have to say I was pretty surprised. So different to skytrain, but then again this transit line doesn't even compare. I went all the way to the airport and it felt like I was in Toronto all over again. This is more like a subway with only 2 stations above ground. It kinda feels like a New York subway, just the looks of it and the signage, the times displaced except a whole lot cleaner of course. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised and found absolutely nothing to complain about. I quite liked it and have to honestly say it was much more than I expected in many many ways. Awesome line! Got me from YVR to Waterfront and from Waterfront to Richmond (Land of Dim Sum and all things Asian)! Prompt, quick, and clean cars! Love the easy to use time zone pricing - choose either 1, 2, or 3. Purchase a day pass for only 9.75 CAD from the machines or any 7-11 store. Easy peasy! Great way to get to the city from the airport , but what's up with the airport improvement tax ?? 9$ from the airport and 4$ back !! Guess Canadians finally took a lesson from their American neighbors using tourists to fund their improvements ! But either way I found it safe and a cheaper than a taxi to get in and out of the city , if you have quite a bit of luggage tho , I don't recommend because the stations are a bit spread out and depending where your hotel is , it can be grueling journey either up or down hill ! But with one sturdy rolling bag you should be fine ! read more

What is not to love about the Vancouver Sky Train system? Nothing, except when somebody farts on it and you can't get away. But, other then that it is amazing. Since I've been away traveling, its one of my favorite things to come back to in Vancouver. I use the rail all the time! It beats finding parking downtown because everything downtown is metered. It's fairly quick and you can reach downtown in about 25 minutes from Richmond. It's not loud like the BART down in San Francisco and fairly clean. read more

Canada Line charges $8,50 from the airport instead of 3,50. Are you kidding me? Dont get me wrong but if you go to pick up a few folks from your family you end up being surprised. Be smart and buy the fares in advance somewhere else. I only found out when I got there to pick up my family, no signs in Vancouver about this significant price change. read more

I was so excited for the Canada Line when it came out 5 years ago. Unfortunately it has been a real disappointment. There is no alternative route to get from Richmond to downtown Vancouver anymore, resulting in severe overcrowding on trains. Train attendants are either punishing 80 year old women because they didn't pay for a zone upgrade, or they are standing around drinking coffee and chatting for hours. They are NEVER around in the event of a true emergency or even if you just need some help. I have been attacked by a transit cop because he thought I didn't have a valid fare( I did.) The train isn't reliable either as there are frequent delays in bad weather causing thousands to be late/miss appointments. Yes it's nice to be able to get downtown in 20 minutes as opposed to the 1.5-2 hours we were with the B-Line, but at least the B-Line left reliably, was on time, never broke down, and stopped in WAY more neighbourhoods in Vancouver than the Canada Line which has so few stops down Cambie. The Canada Line is not tourist friendly. Leaving from the airport, you pay an extra 5$, and the Canada Line does not connect to the Expo or Millennium Lines which = a lot of confused tourists. If you are a tourist I would recommend avoiding the Canada Line in every situation. This idea could have executed so much more smoothly and efficiently, instead it's just another British Columbia SNAFU. read more

Love the convenience of the Canada Line and have taken it to/from YVR every time I've visited Vancouver since it opened. Fact that I can avoid the $5pp service charge by buying a book of tickets from the convenience store near YVR's baggage claim is a bonus. read more

I've taken it a few times during the Olympics. I've taken it when I came home from the airport. I really like the fact that it's roomy and there are a lot of space to put your luggage. Quiet and smooth, yes, but it's about time. The world's first subway train line was in London and I find the London Tube to be almost as quiet as the Canada Line. Of course, the Canada Line is quieter and smoother, but we're talking about made in 2009 trains here. Surprisingly, none of the stations on the Canada line have turnstiles system. read more

I love the Canada Line - I can get from my house the YVR in less than 25 minutes. Quicker, easier, better for the environment and much much cheaper than a cab. I feel a unique Vancouver sense of pride when I land in YVR (one of the nicest Airports in the world) and take this sleek, clean, modern subway to city. read more

I have been using the Canada Line for awhile now and feel I can give it 5 stars. It is by far the fasted way to go from the airport to within blocks of my home and from home to Gastown and back in the evening. The last train south leaves waterfront at 1:15am which is ok but would be better if it was pushed back to 2:00am. During the day the 4 minute wait between trains is amazing. The wider cars are very nice as they can pack in allot of people. I like the YVR check in kiosks in many of the stations I had my boarding pass before I arrived at YVR and it was very easy to head straight to the plane. read more

I was very happy to be able to attend the grand opening of this line in 2009. As someone that has never had the convenience of public transportation in the US I was tickled pink to experience it. I was very amazed, as a tourist at first, at how awesome it was to get around Vancouver on the trains. I really wish there was something like this in most cities of the US. That being said, there are obviously flaws in the system and small annoyances but I don't know what I would do without the "pretty good" transit system here in Vancouver now that I live here and no longer have a vehicle. read more

Vancouver is one of the few cities I never get a car or take a taxi in. Getting around is so easy with the Canada line to downtown and a host of other options when I get there. Overall a well done job, keep it up. read more

If you ever take the Canada Line from Waterfront Station before 6am (ie. to the airport to catch a super early flight)... make sure NOT to try to get in at the Waterfront Station building. One early morning, I was dropped off by a taxi driver who didn't know better so I was standing there thinking I was stranded on a dead quiet Cordova St with luggage in tow. Thank goodness for the homeless person who happened to be wondering around (sketchy at first)-- she actually lead me to the Canada Line entrance up about a block from Waterfront on Granville & W. Hastings. I paid her some change and made it to the airport just fine. Instead of going through all this trouble I think I would just cab it a bit further to Vancouver City Centre instead. read more

I was on this train the day it opened.The anticipation was huge and the lineups and the crowding in the train were insane. This train links Downtown Vancouver from the airport which is very convenient for travelers and a great alternative to taking a taxi. I have spent many days just passing time lounging around on the train going to the airport and richmond and back. The underground reminds you of what its like in a lot of major cities around the world as most of them have underground subways. This is true at present however Translink says this is only "in the initial months of operation", and a "YVR AddFare" will be applied starting sometime in 2010 on trips to and from the airport, so it will then be more expensive to get to the airport. There may be an exemption from the YVR AddFare if you work at the airport. read more

Great way to get downtown from the airport. Clean and not very busy though I suspect it'll get busier once that outlet mall opens up.

AMAZING!!!! such a huge help to Vancouver, goes right from my neighborhood to the airport and price is still reasonable considering where and how far this transit goes! I only wish it was more above ground but obv not realistic, id just rather have a view! haha also dont like how they charge double if you buy at the airport stop. so lame. otherwise, lovin it, thanks Olympics for improving vancouver transit big time! read more

Should have read some of the reviews before. On my first visit/layover, I wanted a way to get from the airport to Stanley Park. There was only one automated machine plus a worker helping next to it. With a line of people behind me, I let her rush me into purchasing an all day pass with an airport surcharge. Where is the explanation of the surchage? I found it later. A permanent sign blocked behind a different sign. Wish I took a picture of that setup. Gave a very bad first impression of this city. read more
