The real purpose of this bus is to serve the Champlain Heights community. I have driving this line for 22 years, therefore, I have seen both evolution of this back when it was BC Transit to now Translink. Most of the people that live in the area are low income and single who work late shifts, therefore, it makes no sense to have this bus stop operating regular times past 8 pm and then every hour thereafter. If I am going to a concert really late, it's best for me to take the 49th UBC bus and then walk home for 20 minutes, otherwise, walking from the station takes an hour. It's not even safe to walk home anymore. There is a lot of people who still take the bus past 8 pm, therefore, not sure why after 8 pm the hour wait is warranted. The drivers themselves, most, are local 'cause most new driver get impatient with all the single mothers and their strollers, bratty kids from the high school and the elderly and disabled from the social service housing near by.
