Really solid nice Thai, with very friendly service. Mates in Northcote come here weekly, like it's a second home.

I was expecting the Thai lemongrass chili burst of flavor and instead food was boring and bland.

I feel like I am pretty spoiled for choice when it comes to great Thai food in my 'hood and now I…read morehave yet another addition to add to the list - Welcome Thai on Street. Thai on Street makes mention on the exterior of the venue that they are Thai 'fine dining' however, they really aren't - and that's probably for the better. It's a cosy, simple venue with some pretty spectacular food. The small restaurant was packed late on a Sunday night while the competitors that surround them where empty - do I bother even writing anymore? We ordered the entree 'basket', which offered one item of each of the entrees - fish cake, money bag, spring roll, curry puff and prawn spring roll. All were delicious but the money bags were a particular standout - I might just order them the next time. For mains we shared a classic Thai beef salad, which - be warned - packs a serious chilli punch! However it was balanced out by the fresh mint and tangy dressing - a really great salad. We finished with a red duck curry, which was served atop a single tealight candle - unnecessary but a gorgeous way of serving the dish! It had some incredible flavour and really hit the spot, however a dash more duck and a splash less liquid would have made it an "I'm ordering this every time" kinda dish. The perfect spot if you're after an easy after-work dinner.

Tried this local restaurant based on the high rating on here…read more The menu is extensive and all sounded good. I went for a dish called Pad Ped Yang from the hot plate section of the menu with a coconut rice. The dish had duck (cooked beautifully) and veggies. There wasn't as much flavour to the dish as I'd hoped but was still enjoyable. Service was quick and friendly. The restaurant itself was very busy for mid week (always a good sign) and I loved the Photos of Thailand on the walls. Loved the sign in the toilet door too (see photo). It made me feel like I was in Thailand again with the poorly translated signs I'll go back to the restaurant and try a fish dish or curry next time I think.

Help, I can't stop Yelping about Thai food! This will be my last in a while, I promise…read more Okay, so I'm gong to say it right off the bat: Absolute Thai isn't as good as Ying Thai 1 or 2. Of course. But it's a considerable distance away from both, so let's pretend those other two restaurants don't exist. I dined in at Absolute with a rowdy group of people. No, we weren't drinking Absolute, but quite a lot of wine went down both before and during the meal. The staff tolerated us with humor and an awful lot of patience - I think it took over half an hour for us to figure out what we wanted to order and then we confused the waitress by all shouting things at once. We were terrible customers. After the ordering debacle, the food started to come out fast and steady. The ginger fish, vegetarian green curry and masaman beef were stand-out dishes, each having surprisingly subtle flavours. I didn't really like the pad thai (a bit bland) or the beef salad (not enough chili) but others loved them - each to their own. The restaurant is nothing swish but it's clean and comfortable. For a Saturday night it was quiet - there were only two other tables occupied, but they seemed to be doing a roaring trade in take-away. All up, I'd happily come here again.

Solid Thai food. I can't really comment on the dine-in experience, but the quality of food when we…read moreorder take-out is great for the price point. We live in the neighborhood, and this place is now my go-to. Ingredients seem fresh and every dish ordered has been flavorful and tasty - never greasy or heavily spicy (unless ordered that way). The prices are about average for the area.

I'm not really sure about Thai restaurants…read more I've been to a couple of Thai restaurants (including one in Bangkok) but I have never really been all that impressed with them. It is not that I don't like Thailand, or the food, but rather because they don't use chopsticks. I even asked my friend who had spent some time in Thailand whether they use chopsticks to which he replied that they just use the humble fork. When I eat Asian food I like eating it with chopsticks, but then that is just my preference. This was an odd restaurant though because despite it being a Thai restaurant, the wall had a number of paintings of scenes from Greece, and one from Australia. The only reference to Thailand that I could find (with the exception of the name and the food) was a photo of the Floating Market tucked away behind the counter. The food was okay (though I forgot to spice it up) but the one dish that really caught my attention was the one that my friend bought. I can't remember its name but it was a curry with bamboo shoots in it and it reeked. I thought it was just me until a number of other objections also began to float up from the table, so I decided to hold my nose until we ended up leaving.

I absolutely love Mamanee Thai. It's not a restaurant that you go to for the scene or the decor but…read morerather the big bold delicious flavors, generous portions and true authenticity of each dish. The service is quick and friendly and since it truly is a hidden gem we've never had to wait for a table. Each dish presents itself well and there is a HUGE menu that should be able to suit anyone's preference. But be warned, even their medium spiced dishes are quite full on and may be too much for anyone not ready and/or willing. One of the other stars of this restaurant are the two sweet older women preparing all of the food in the front of the house. They have thoughtfully created and prepared each dish and it comes across in the satisfying flavor. You can't go wrong with any dish here.

The delicious aromas as I entered Som Tam were enough to start me salivating. I thought our luck…read morewas going to be out as every table appeared to be reserved but thankfully a spot for two was available. Note to self made that in future it would be wise to make a booking as this place was buzzing!!! A spicy little salad was brought out to us whilst we contemplated the menu which contained plenty of choices for both meat lovers & vegetarians. I opted for the yellow curry of silken tofu & heaps of veggies whilst my dining companion had the lamb curry. Cute individual dishes of sticky rice were served to accompany our curry. The chefs are more than happy to adjust the heat of the dishes depending on your palate. As far as dessert goes we both opted for ice cream, sampling the coconut & green tea. Both were topped with some interesting but unknown, possibly fruits & rather randomly a couple of kidney beans!!! A nice palate cleanser but next time I think I'd give the topping a miss. Overall a yummy Thai meal in a place with a great atmosphere & excellent service. I will be heading back that's for sure :)

After tasting one dish, awesomely Authentic Thai Food, just BYO your wines …read more... This place is located along what could be the longest esplanade of food in Melbourne or Australia or even the world .... the building doesn't looked prominent, must really looked for it or have the address on your GPS. I just happened to drive pass, the name is so catchy Som Tam which is Papaya Salad in Thai so I stop for lunch. It was a great decision, this Vintage building is tastely renovated, not over-doing it, very smart, great layout, the interior is so simple yet warm and very inviting, just a great ambiance. All those vintage elements are still there blending in with the modern decor. The long dining table at the back Courtyard is stunning. You will enjoy their Toilets too, stunningly renovated and fitted, WELL DONE! On the wine by the glass, the Riesling was a disappointment though, next time I shall BYO. Now to the food, based on one dish alone, Massaman Beef Curry with Jasberry Rice (Red Rice) at $10.90 - Lunch Special Menu, I can say that the Chef can cook authentic Thai. Curry flavour was balanced, not overpowering sweet nor too coconutty, other spices are prominent, just right, Beef was tender, Sweet potatoes not mushy. Enough curiosity to come back for more. Looking forward to coming back for either Lunch or Dinner so I can order more. Quite an enjoyable lunch, thank you Chef!
