The huftsteak (which I learned was rump steak) was a satisfying 220 gm and cooked exactly to my specification. I added a pepper sauce and a delicious side of grilled mixed veggies. It was all quite delicious. Schmid's has an extensive beer menu with 7 on tap and a comprehensive range of 80!bottled beers and ciders. In addition, a large number of wines are available. Service was very friendly (staff were fluent with English) and the establishment has an atmosphere that would not be out of place in any university town with touches of corrugated iron and rough sawn (but properly finished) timber and engaging background music. We quite literally stumbled upon this restaurant as we were wandering towards the train station. We were delighted to also stumble upon an entire pedestrian friendly street of shops and restaurants. Obviously, we should have done more research on where we were heading and just got lucky. Our luck was on full display with our choice of this restaurant. We have already learned to ask for English menus and they were retrieved. The dish that intrigued me was listed as an Austrian Traditional dish, described in English as Homemade Pasta with Caramelized Cabbage. It also had crispy little onion rings on top. That's what I got. The flat noodle pasta was cut into small squares, the caramelized cabbage a mild flavor where the more I ate, the more I liked. There was plenty of food and then some. I would describe our experience as visiting the most touristy restaurant we have found so far. Our server was friendly and helpful, and not wearing a white dress shirt but rather more traditional garb. We ate outside but also stopped inside, discovering spotless bathrooms that were quite automated with doors and lights. Very cool.

It's a guesthouse and restaurant that has operated since 1895 or something like that. It's housed in a gorgeous building couple of streets over from the shopping street. If you don't detour from the Main Street in town you won't find this place. They serve traditional Austrian food and the menu is quite extensive. They also had a daily card and as it was end of Spargel season, a couple of dishes with asparagus. They also have about a dozen wines from the area by the glass besides other drink choices. We sat in the outdoor area and it's quite nice. Staff were very friendly and quick to serve us when we were seated. I had a roasted wagyu steak which was served on a bed of white and green asparagus and spinach purée and horseradish foam. It was simply delectable and the flavour was amazing. I licked my plate clean. I also had a cream slice for dessert which has been made using the same recipe for the last 60 years at this place and it was also amazing. I tasted the crumbed mushrooms and this is very unique and seasonal dish in Austria and it was excellent. Happily come here again anytime. Great food, good service and not over priced. This is good honest Austrian cooking with high quality ingredients.
