    Kepley's Bar-B-Q - Menu

Over the past couple months, I've been visiting some of the places in my hometown of High Point…read morethat I really hadn't visited since high school to see how they are holding up. Most have done pretty well! Kepley's on the other hand, while nothing about it has changed, I just think my sensibilities about BBQ have. Also, while it can be a treasure to know a place that never changes because it is great, sometimes great becomes just good, which then becomes more middle of the road, and a change might be warranted. Anyway, I came in, was greeted warmly, and catered to attentively. This is where Kepley's excels. Kind folks that have aged with the restaurant and are just as much a fabric of it as what they serve. This service might get me back to try something other than BBQ sometime. But, I did order a chopped plate, as one does when trying out a BBQ joint around here. One of the interesting things to me is there is no choice of sides. You get meat, red slaw (vinegar based), hushpuppies, fries (they did offer green beans instead). I'd have liked a couple more choices, but am also a fan of places doing what they know if they do it well. Sad to say, the chopped pork, dry at heart. Swimming in the "dip" sauce, which for the uninitiated, is a ketchup/vinegar sauce that it bathes in until they serve it. If it sits too long, it becomes too vinegary, and that's what I got. So vinegary my face recoiled with each fork... and I am very used to vinegar as a base, and enjoy it when done well. The slaw, more potent vinegar. No respite here. Which is why I like "white" mayo based cole slaw with vinegar BBQ. It milds out the flavor of the vinegar. The fries, were pretty basic. The hushpuppies were my shelter, and the best part of this meal, I finished them. I left meat, slaw, and fries on my plate... and for those that know me, well, that ain't right. I was still kind of hungry, and inquired about a burger to go. The only toppings were the vinegar slaw (nope) or Lettuce, tomato, onion. I asked if I could have onions grilled, and without hesitation received a no. They don't do that. They could do that, because the equipment exists, but they don't. While this is their choice, it stopped the sale for me, and I declined. No part of my rating is influenced by something that a restaurant chooses not to do as policy, I understand, but again... resistance to a little change. Good news, in the end, this whole meal set me back very little money wise. The prices here are downright cheap in this age of inflation (or in some cases just flat out greed). I love that. This was welcome. Thanks to the excellent service and reasonable prices, I promise to come back for hot dogs and hope to bump this rating up a smidge. Or maybe for some Brunswick stew! But not for chopped Q.

Food…read morewas ready when we went to pick it up, everything prepared as ordered, each meal paired with the requested side. I got the Kayden sandwich with house salad. Just like dining in, they don't skimp. They pack the sandwich and the to go box full, it was more than enough for a filling and healthy lunch. Their house dressing for the salad is fantastic, maybe some sort of deviation of thousand islands(?), tasty with just a little sweetness. Highly recommend for dine in or take out!

I stopped by a little before noon on a Friday to find the establishment very busy, a testament to Alexandria's loyal following. As much as I wanted to like this place, however, it just didn't strike me as anything special. Positives first: Alesha is a friendly and welcoming presence, and the staff here seem hard-working and personable. Though the menu is fairly limited, several items - a crostini and a spinach/hummus/red pepper/quinoa wrap - held appeal. I ultimately went with the day's special, an Italian sandwich. It took a while to arrive, but given how busy - and new - the bistro was, I'm inclined to cut them some slack. While the sandwich featured a good amount of meat, it was oddly sweet due to the choice of pepper. Banana peppers and a dash of oregano would have been a welcome remedy. Like a few of the other sandwich offerings, the Italian clocked in at $12 with a bag of chips included. Some of the salads reached ambitiously into the teens. I may need to give Bistro 1605 another shot after they are fully up to speed at their new location, but initial impressions suggest a place that will serve you neither a bad lunch (and there is something to be said for that consistency alone) nor a particularly memorable one.

Our waitress was lovely and we simply asked her to take it away and my mom was going to finish her salad. At no point did we ask to get it for free, she simply did not want it as it turned her stomach. A few minutes later this old woman with short grey hair comes over and proceeds to tell my senior mother that she should've told her at the first bite; and that half the burger was eaten. She then said she would put the two raw bites in the middle back on the grill. First of all, two bites were taken, not half the burger. Second of all, who puts a burger back on the grill after it's been eaten- that is nasty. Then! I say something about how rude this woman was after my mother walks out while I'm paying and this woman comes BACK out into the lobby and proceeds to start screaming and cursing at me that she wasn't rude to my MOM. She absolutely was rude. She's a piece of work. I come from a long line of restaurant owners and if you're so hard up that you have to argue with customers about the quality of your food, then maybe it's time to close. The best days of the Blue Zucc are behind them.

She was literally hoppin' it was so busy but did a good job of keeping up. She helped me find items on the menu that fit my dietary restrictions. Nice vibe, laid back, loud. Parking isn't great limited onsite but there's plenty of additional parking across the street. The best menu! There's SOOOO many things I want to try. I mean, a variety of different fries are you kidding me? My friend had the spicy goat burger which she said was good: if you don't like messy don't get it because the sauce is very sticky and she said there needs to be more sauce on the burger. I had a customized salad which was huge and delicious. The salad was too big for the size of plate though. The dressing was a house made roasted shallots and was yummy. Outdoor and indoor seating. Not in Greensboro often but I'm coming back here!

Since I was driving back by on my home the next day, had a late lunch. Arrived around 3pm on a Friday and sat at the bar. Given the hour, it was fairly quiet. Weird experience, bar was wide open. I went to the bathroom and when I came back, someone decided to sit in the seat right next to me. Why?! I must comment on the service. The barkeep got me a menu quick and I ordered a water. During my meal, my water sat empty for 5 minutes or so even thought I counted 8 staff members behind the bar. Given the time of day, it was not busy. I ordered onion rings (as a side) and the Bacon Jam burger as it came with the "cordon Bleu" fries. The onion rings stole the show. So good. The fries were not my jam. Low quality cheese sauce with lunch meat ham that was diced. My fault, I should have subbed regular fries as I don't like stuff on my fries. I was expecting it to be a seasoning. My mistake. The burger was good not great. I got the 12 oz size and learned it is 2 fat 6 oz. patties stacked. Makes it VERY tall. The description of this burger is shown in one of my photos. Again, it was good but the flavors just did not pop. Wish I got the French Onion burger. Next time. :-) I do recommend!
