Over the past couple months, I've been visiting some of the places in my hometown of High Point…read morethat I really hadn't visited since high school to see how they are holding up. Most have done pretty well! Kepley's on the other hand, while nothing about it has changed, I just think my sensibilities about BBQ have. Also, while it can be a treasure to know a place that never changes because it is great, sometimes great becomes just good, which then becomes more middle of the road, and a change might be warranted. Anyway, I came in, was greeted warmly, and catered to attentively. This is where Kepley's excels. Kind folks that have aged with the restaurant and are just as much a fabric of it as what they serve. This service might get me back to try something other than BBQ sometime. But, I did order a chopped plate, as one does when trying out a BBQ joint around here. One of the interesting things to me is there is no choice of sides. You get meat, red slaw (vinegar based), hushpuppies, fries (they did offer green beans instead). I'd have liked a couple more choices, but am also a fan of places doing what they know if they do it well. Sad to say, the chopped pork, dry at heart. Swimming in the "dip" sauce, which for the uninitiated, is a ketchup/vinegar sauce that it bathes in until they serve it. If it sits too long, it becomes too vinegary, and that's what I got. So vinegary my face recoiled with each fork... and I am very used to vinegar as a base, and enjoy it when done well. The slaw, more potent vinegar. No respite here. Which is why I like "white" mayo based cole slaw with vinegar BBQ. It milds out the flavor of the vinegar. The fries, were pretty basic. The hushpuppies were my shelter, and the best part of this meal, I finished them. I left meat, slaw, and fries on my plate... and for those that know me, well, that ain't right. I was still kind of hungry, and inquired about a burger to go. The only toppings were the vinegar slaw (nope) or Lettuce, tomato, onion. I asked if I could have onions grilled, and without hesitation received a no. They don't do that. They could do that, because the equipment exists, but they don't. While this is their choice, it stopped the sale for me, and I declined. No part of my rating is influenced by something that a restaurant chooses not to do as policy, I understand, but again... resistance to a little change. Good news, in the end, this whole meal set me back very little money wise. The prices here are downright cheap in this age of inflation (or in some cases just flat out greed). I love that. This was welcome. Thanks to the excellent service and reasonable prices, I promise to come back for hot dogs and hope to bump this rating up a smidge. Or maybe for some Brunswick stew! But not for chopped Q.

Just like dining in, they don't skimp. They pack the sandwich and the to go box full, it was more than enough for a filling and healthy lunch. Their house dressing for the salad is fantastic, maybe some sort of deviation of thousand islands(?), tasty with just a little sweetness. Highly recommend for dine in or take out!

I stopped by a little before noon on a Friday to find the establishment very busy, a testament to Alexandria's loyal following. As much as I wanted to like this place, however, it just didn't strike me as anything special. Positives first: Alesha is a friendly and welcoming presence, and the staff here seem hard-working and personable. Though the menu is fairly limited, several items - a crostini and a spinach/hummus/red pepper/quinoa wrap - held appeal. I ultimately went with the day's special, an Italian sandwich. It took a while to arrive, but given how busy - and new - the bistro was, I'm inclined to cut them some slack. While the sandwich featured a good amount of meat, it was oddly sweet due to the choice of pepper. Banana peppers and a dash of oregano would have been a welcome remedy. Like a few of the other sandwich offerings, the Italian clocked in at $12 with a bag of chips included. Some of the salads reached ambitiously into the teens. I may need to give Bistro 1605 another shot after they are fully up to speed at their new location, but initial impressions suggest a place that will serve you neither a bad lunch (and there is something to be said for that consistency alone) nor a particularly memorable one.

The menu reflects this with cocktails, wine and beer and the menu is extensive on the beverages! The food menu is terrific and has so much variety and some really nice plates small and large. It was a theater night when we went and we had a 7.30 show to goto and our server knew that. We got there at 5.30 so figured that gave us the 10 mins to walk to the theater to be on time. We started off with some drinks. My friend loved her cherry ale and I really enjoyed my G&T , the glass it came in was just so unusual. The G&T took awhile to finally make it to me but i loved it. We ordered the tuna tartare and that was delicious and served up with fried green tomatoes which was a different take on it. Nice and fresh and nicely presented. Our entrees were the salmon for my friend and I had the Bahn mi chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries. Usually this sandwich is with pork so I wanted to try this. The service for our dinner took almost 45 mins we had finished the app awhile back and my grind had another drink and still we were waiting. It was closing in on 6.50 Pm and at this point we would be inhaling our food when it came and rushing out the door . It came at 7pm and the sandwich was good but they should mention on the menu that it has mayonnaise on it as I don't like that but there was quite a bit on the bun. Not typically in this type of sandwich so I wasn't expecting it. The chicken was a good and flavorful and lots of other veggie fillings and the fries were great. My friend really enjoyed her salmon and the risotto it came with. Just disappointed we had to eat it all so quickly and leave some so we could pay and leave. We had our eye on the lemon posset tart for dessert but we didn't have time . We just thought since the server knew we had theater tickets she would have been more on top of it. Yes they were busy as it was a show night but the place wasn't totally full. Seemed like no urgency when we asked how long the food would be as we had to leave soon. I'd maybe try this place again on a non show night, as I thought they had a great menu. I enjoyed the place just not the service as we barely made the show before the lights went down.

It's a great little restaurant with a fun atmosphere and great music. We started with the Fried Goat Cheese Balls and the Fried Cauliflower, and both were excellent. The goat cheese balls were crispy on the outside and creamy inside, while the cauliflower was perfectly fried and packed with flavor. I ordered the Jalapeño Popper Burger special, and it was phenomenal. Juicy, cooked perfectly, with just the right amount of heat and all the flavors you'd expect from a great jalapeño popper. Easily one of the better specialty burgers I've had. They also have a great beer and wine selection, which made it easy to find the perfect pairing with our meal. If you're traveling and looking for something far better than the usual fast food off the interstate, Hops Burger Bar is absolutely worth the quick detour. Great food, great service, and a place we'll make a point to stop at again the next time we're passing through.

Since I was driving back by on my home the next day, had a late lunch. Arrived around 3pm on a Friday and sat at the bar. Given the hour, it was fairly quiet. Weird experience, bar was wide open. I went to the bathroom and when I came back, someone decided to sit in the seat right next to me. Why?! I must comment on the service. The barkeep got me a menu quick and I ordered a water. During my meal, my water sat empty for 5 minutes or so even thought I counted 8 staff members behind the bar. Given the time of day, it was not busy. I ordered onion rings (as a side) and the Bacon Jam burger as it came with the "cordon Bleu" fries. The onion rings stole the show. So good. The fries were not my jam. Low quality cheese sauce with lunch meat ham that was diced. My fault, I should have subbed regular fries as I don't like stuff on my fries. I was expecting it to be a seasoning. My mistake. The burger was good not great. I got the 12 oz size and learned it is 2 fat 6 oz. patties stacked. Makes it VERY tall. The description of this burger is shown in one of my photos. Again, it was good but the flavors just did not pop. Wish I got the French Onion burger. Next time. :-) I do recommend!
