Finally deciding to tackle this project, I solicited some bids and was pleased with the numbers that WayBetter came back with. The neighboring house is in a valley and a wall was needed to help delineate the properties, plus getting all of the growth away from my house would ensure I didn't have bug issues! Their communication was easily better than most other contractors I have dealt with, and that's a strength they should continue as it will set them apart from other bidders. When weather delayed the project, Salena would send me an email to let me know when the next tentative start date was, which I really appreciated. Take a look at the pictures I included, they did a great job on the project!

Also, the dumpster that was needed to be dropped measured 8X 20 ----a good peice of info to have. The quote I received to do the work was fair--this is a smaller, and, in my experience, honest local company that is not out to gouge you. Once they were able to show up and do the work, they were fast, professional, courteous and efficient. A crew of 3 guys tore my rotten clay tile roof off, and replaced it with asphalt shingle in just 1 day----- on a 25 x 25 ft Greendale original home with a pyramid hip roof, plus a small adjacent, 10 X 8 ft utility room roof, plus a cleaned up the yard fairly decently as well, before leaving that day. (The dumpster remained till the following day though--but it was also removed quickly at jobs end) The company has been professional during every step of the process. The crew cleaned up fairly well, but there were a few things --some tile chips and debris here and there, 2 or 3 roofing nails left in the driveway, some tile and debris on the front porch overhang, and some scrapes on the siding where tile had scraped when it was pushed off the roof--(which were easily removed with mineral spirits) , and a piece of scaffold equipment still up on the roof near the chimney which was possibly left for inspection purposes. I can't complain though --considering the monumental mess with piles of debris this job created. Owner Keith sent a follow-up guy to clean up these things to my satisfaction and the guy made sure I was happy with everything was A-OK before he left. The cleaner that was used to remove the scrape marks worked like a charm--with no marks visible after. The house looks exactly as it did before the job began except now it has a new roof! This company prides itself on doing a good job and getting Angie's List rewards, it means a lot to them. I thought the price for the job was fair. Also, they provide a 10-year warranty on their work, and the shingles themselves have a 50-year warranty on them, in case there are unforeseen issues ahead. They deserve the solid reviews they get. I would hire them again. And may do so for an attic insulation job, which they also specialize in.

Steve's Masonry was the first company to agree to show up and quote the work. Admittedly I still have sticker shock as I have no idea how much this type of work costs. The whole process was quick too, Milan quoted the repair on a weekend and one of his guys was there within the week. Milan was a very nice guy and his workers got the job done. Overall we had a good experience with Steve's Masonry. I would recommend them for anyone needing this type of work on their home.

Steve quoted $1,000. His crew showed up and barely ground out the old mortar (going only a 1/2 inch deep before coating the seams with new mortar). I climbed on the roof and noted the shotty work. I called and texted Steve to discuss. He himself said mortar should be no less than 3/4" to 1". FYI, web says 2 to 3 times the width of a joint. Then Steve scolded his staff for telling me that they only did 1/2" (see photo of receipt). Steve was more upset that I knew the truth about the work they completed then he was about rectifying the job. He wanted me to call Champion (another local biz to confirm his story - i certainly wouldn't trust them either). He refused to adjust the bill and threatened to pull his team without them finishing. Don't trust this company! His team was also very condescending. I am very knowledgeable about construction. They lied to my face and were quite smug while doing so.

If I could give zero stars, I would. It's ironic that a landscaping company actually made my yard…read morelook worse than it was after completing the "job." My family hired Createscape for a simple job at my home: drop off topsoil in a designated spot in the yard. The location was confirmed in email correspondence the office manager drew up. Createscape's employee failed to follow directions and dropped the topsoil in the opposite side of the front yard, creating unnecessary disturbance to an area that was just fine as it is. Rather than take accountability for the error, the office manager initially stated there was nothing more that could be done. Eventually, she agreed to have the worker come out and move the topsoil to the appropriate spot in the yard. In doing so, the worker completely ripped up the grass. While she did state this could happen, one would think, given the extent of damage, they would do the right thing and at least place seed in the impacted area to take steps toward bringing it back to its original condition -- which, again, I must reiterate, was perfect as it was. Nope! I'm shocked at the office manager's cavalier attitude, unwillingness to take accountability and troubleshoot and demonstration of atrociously poor customer service. I'm quite surprised she's in the position she's in. I will be in need of landscaping services in the next several years. Needless to say, I will not be contacting this company again and will be looking elsewhere. Anyone in the market for landscaping work, beware: If Createscape does not complete a job to the originally agreed upon specifications, odds are they will not correct the problem.
