Shawn Roofian is a horrible doctor who should lose his license. He has caused me insurmountable suffering and PTSD due to his inappropriate practices. I found Roofian and saw his positive reviews (look closely you'll notice they are likely all fake - please look at the negative review those are the truth). His office confirmed multiple times that they were in network w/ my insurance. What they fail to mention is Roofian himself might be in network for your consultative visits but any procedure he does in his very same clinic is billed under 'R&R', a different name and is not in network. I met with Roofian and we discussed a radiofrequency ablation for my chronic pain. We discussed that insurance requires 2 medial branch blocks per side of my neck before the RFA can be completed and the process that required lidocaine injections for the medial branch block. I also told him many times the only thing I was consenting to be put into my body was lidocaine. I have extensive sensitivities to medications and thus was extremely clear. Each of the 4 times I came in for my branch blocks, I confirmed with the nurse assisting with the procedure that only lidocaine was being used, and each time received confirmation from the nurse that yes, it was only lidocaine. Throughout the several weeks it took me to get all 4 procedures, I was experiencing anxiety, heart palpitations, and shortness of breath. I did not relate this to this procedure as I've had lidocaine many times with no issue. It was not until the 4th procedure when I tried to schedule my RFA appointment that the nurse said I had to wait weeks to see if 'it worked'. I queried this as lidocaine wears off within hours. It was then disclosed to me that the doctor had been injecting dexamethasone into my body against my direct consent and w/o my knowledge. I have never felt so violated in my life. It was then that I looked into dexamethasone and realized my anxiety, shortness of breath, and heart palpitations were side effects of the drug I'd been given 4x against my consent. Not only that, but because of the long acting drug, I was not able to feel the limits of my pain and this resulted in the worse acute pain flare of up of my life. The first day of my flare up I was in so much pain I was vomiting for 12 hours straight, then I was bed ridden for 2 weeks. I couldn't even feed myself properly, I ate cold food from easy open cans for 2 weeks as that's all I could physically manage. It was excruciating to move even an inch, even to breath. This would not have happened if the doctor had not have numbed my ability to receive signals from my body that I count on to not over extend myself due to pain. I still needed my RFA, so I called 8 other pain doctors trying to get my RFA done. Every single one told me that b/c Roofian had used dexamethasone the procedure became therapeutic not diagnostic. The diagnostic procedure is only supposed to use lidocaine. Roofian did the procedure WRONG. He did not do diagnostic medial branch blocks. He did a therapeutic procedure. Not a single other doctor could give me the RFA based on these medial branch blocks. Not only that, they all told me that insurance would deny my request for an RFA based on these therapeutic blocks. These procedures are excruciating and I went through them for nothing. Out of sheer pain and desperation, I tried to make an appointment for the RFA w/ Roofian so I didn't have to subject myself to all that pain again. His officed refused until my bills were paid - then I received the bills. These bills were for thousands of dollars because the procedure was in fact out of network. I called the office countless times trying to deal with this. My lawyer dealt with it. The matter was settled. But every year they send me a bill again causing me extreme anxiety reliving what Roofian did to my body against my consent. I call them each time and they say it's dealt with until the next bill comes again. His office staff stand by him and his awful practices as well. As part of my treatment for a Bulging disc, I was sent by my Chiropractor yesterday to this Pain Management doctor for Epidural steroid injection into the area around the spinal nerves - whew, kind of a long intro to the story behind this photo this morning lol Anyway, my appointment was 12 noon during my lunch break and it's at least a 15 min drive, I was in a hurry I didn't know I left my wallet so I didn't have cash or card to pay my parking which is $20 max. When I was already with the (male) Nurse, I know it was embarrassing, but if you really know me, even if it was, I can swallow my pride and I would ask for help. I told him, I have Venmo and Zelle and I can send $20 asap once received that's the only time he can give me the cash. His response was, I'm sorry but I don't use those of course I said, oh no worries, I was just trying my luck. The other (lady) Nurse that was getting my signature told me, let me ask the Doctor if he has some cash! Hahaa awwe... Anyway, when I was moved to the room where I will get the injection to my spine (omggg), the male Nurse handed me $23.00 and said, here you go and the $3.00 is your tip to the Parking attendant, I almost hugged him! And when I got out of the room, the lady Nurse was handing me $20 and said, you can just give it back for your next appointment - fyi, I didn't get it of course but man oh man, once again, my heart is overflowing with gratitude, amazing how some people you didn't really know are going above and beyond! Wow so I was a perspective client I get there, front desk was not very welcoming. I'm handed paperwork to fill out. Provided both primary and secondary insurance. Wait 15 minutes. I am then asked for a the copay which I respond can you bill my secondary insurance to which they replay No. I ask why and to speak to their billing department. She steps out and at first says sure it shouldn't be a problem. And in the same sentence she then says sorry we don't do that. I'm like huh it's a secondary can you at least try, to which she said no! So I was like never mind can you please cancel my appointment and shred my profile. And left with a bad taste. Went to see Shawn on Monday who was great by the way and told me it might take a few days for insurance to approve my epidural shot. Called on Thursday to check on the progress. Martha picked up rudely and said it would take more than a week to get my insurance to confirm and dared me to call my own insurance to expedite. Of course I did, dealing with a chronic back pain and they mentioned they never receive anything from here. So both the insurance and I called back to the office and Martha mentioned it takes her 1.5 weeks + to organize my information before she can make the typically 1 hour call with insurance to figure out my coverage. She then ended the call with a threaten tone and said I was out of coverage and it would cost me over $2500 for my epidural shot. TLDR: Dr. Shawn, thank you for seeing me. However, Martha needs to stop making excuses for not doing her job and sympathize with your customer who are dealing with chronic pain. read more

Dr. Roofian is an awesome doctor. My GP insisted that I see a pain management doc for my disc issue that was taking longer than normal to heal before he would extend my disability benefits. Before I went to see him I called the office to ask the front desk staff how he approaches pain management. If he is more prone to attack it aggressively or more conservative or more holistic etc. They definitely help to put me at ease because my main concern was that he wouldn't hear me when I explain to him what had been happening. I had a more complex case than just a disc issue. I had neurological things happening as well that were slowing down the healing of the disc but healing was still happening. Truthfully I went to go see him to hopefully receive the feedback that I didn't need to be treated by him! Dr. Roofian was warm and inviting and listened very attentively while I shared with him my health history over the past year and the progress that has been made with the injury. After taking a look at my MRI report and hearing the progress that had been made and was continuing to happen, he agreed that no treatment from him was the best treatment at this time because while I was healing a little slower than normal, I still was healing without major intervention, and we wouldn't want to interrupt that. I have a lot of respect for him because it takes a true professional to know when you don't need to treat someone at all and not just jump straight to aggressive measures when they aren't necessary. So thank you for hearing me and appeasing my former GP, and I'm happy to report that I'm healing fabulously and am back at work. I can't speak to the treatment because I went in for short term pain relief and was told they only do long term pain relief. Wish someone had told me before I made the appointment. After my appointment where I told them what they offer will not help me, I was solicited to come back. Odd. But what was really bad was that when I received my Medicare Benefits Summary there were four instances when Medicare and my Medigap policy were charged "erroneously". One of the times was when I cancelled an appointment. The charge was $48.14 for "Managing medical care". Is it now a thing to charge for a phone call to cancel an appointment? Seems unethical. Best pain management doctor in LA! My yoga instructor referred me after the training started to get to my body. I developed a compression in my cervical spine which led to my right arm weakness. For 6 months I wasn't even able to reach both arms above my head. Finally after 2 doctors I was referred to him. He performed one cervical epidural and my symptoms have since resolved. This is the worse place ever. Do not be fooled by good reviews as I think they maybe from their own staff. They get your 250$ up front, and this doctor stands by the door as he has no time for patient and has already regardless of pathology have the same plan for every patients that they have to do epidural injections,, he does not even lay hands on patient to examine, he tells you he will treat you but when you get out of exam room to front desk all is done and they show you to the door with no medications or treatment plans. He talks down to patient and judge patients from the first second on. He lacks compassion and bedside manners. He is incompetent and not even able to utter a treatment plan based on presented pathology confirmed by imaging. I think he counts on only seeing patients once to get their money and be done with the patient. The front desk does not know what they are doing at all. What is wrong with this picture? I was involved a horrific MVA on Valentine's Day, 2018. My Lyft driver blew a red light. I was in trauma/neuro for 2 days. I did extensive research to find and pick a doctor that I felt could help me rehabilitate. I am glad to say that my research proved to me to be worthwhile and valuable. Dr. Roofian and his staff, particularly, Kennedy, have been with me every step of the way. Dr. Roofian requested the right MRI at a great facility. Treatment options were provided, and I must say that Dr. Roofian's honest opinion has always made me feel like I am in the right hands. I am extremely happy I found Dr. Roofian. He has helped me significantly with both chronic migraines and complex regional pain syndrome. 2/26/2018 Dr. Shawn Roofian is possibly one of the best physicians I have ever met. He has been so helpful for me, words cannot describe. He came to my house to do Ketamine infusions - six - over a two week period. I had PTSD, couldn't drive my car, was paranoid, racing negative thoughts, grief over recent passing of family and friends, and had 24/7 panic attacks. What a relief Ketamine is. Oh my God. And Shawn is the kindest, most compassionate, non-judgemental, reliable, and most intelligent person ever. One day he was a few minutes late for his appointment at my home. His dedicated assistant Kennedy called me to say he was running late. Turns out he was stuck in the worst traffic jam on the 405 due to an accident and then got pulled over by police for some silly reason. He arrived calm and happy just a few minutes late. (I would have been a crazed maniac given the circumstances). Shawn is also very well educated and excellent with Ketamine infusions, having years of experience. I loved our treatment appointments because they were so powerful and I would create new playlists every day on Spotify to make it an even more peaceful, fun, healing experience. I am a new person.
