DJ Andre was incredible! We were so glad he was chosen as our DJ. Our meeting prior to the wedding was very thorough and Andre did not seem rushed to get the meeting over with. We had some particular items and he was excited about them with us. Everything went smoothly at our wedding and he accommodated many song requests. A young wedding guest told her mom our wedding was her favorite she's been to and "Laura has great taste in music!" I pass that credit on to Andre. Honestly, I had very high expectations with this DJ service. Leading up to the wedding, the correspondence with the boss Matt were timely and professional. The problems started when being paired with our DJ. She outright missed the final phone consultation that was one week before the wedding. It took me several follow up emails to get ahold of her after that before getting her on the phone. The day of the wedding brought many concerns. She played the wrong first dance song. We specifically wanted a duet version of a certain song and wrote that out specifically on their online scheduling tool as well as told the DJ that on our phone call. The music during the actual reception was fine, but all of the negative experiences before and after completely ruined it for us. The evening of the wedding, she packed up and left 45 minutes early when there were still guests mingling- the dancing had slowed down, but guests were still around and chatting. The second she left the wedding was over, as no guests are going to stay and chat after the DJ stops the wedding. The DJ made an inappropriate comment to my mom about not having received a tip after my husband and I left. Even furthermore, she went on to talk to the venue staff saying that she got stiffed on the tip (even though we already tipped the venue staff and planned on tipping the photographer and DJ after). The staff was concerned enough with her negative words about us that they brought it to our attention. Feedback was given to the manager Matt following the wedding, with little to no apology or reconciliation. Matt forwarded an email from the DJ saying it was all just a misunderstanding. I think you could have a good experience with this company, but I worry that the quality of their DJs in terms of reliability, professionalism, and performance is variable. Edit: Matt was a totally different person in terms of handling our concerns. He was cold and dismissive. We were told there was nothing they could do for us unless we took our review down (see picture). This is literally a nightmare company to work with in terms of customer service. We met multiple times before the big day and also confirmed these details day of multiple times and he still managed to mess it all up and was very rude about it all. Instant Request was easy to work with from the beginning and very organized. Our DJ Jimmy B was amazing!!! He put together our ceremony music seamlessly, even using a family piano recording for us. He created the best dance floor ever - it was full and non-stop until the end of the night! We were initially very excited with our choice to book Instant Request for our wedding reception, but everything went downhill on the day of the event. We really liked the planning process and were happy that the song selection adhered to our requests, but we were disappointed with our DJ's lackluster presentation. THE GOOD: The planning process with Instant Request was great! We had our initial meeting with an experienced DJ who was very energetic and fun to talk to about music as well as other topics. He gave us a lot of good ideas for things we could do during our reception, such as an anniversary dance. Once we submitted our deposit, we had access to a very helpful planning tool where we could add music, receive music recommendations, and plan the reception timeline (dinner, speeches, etc). We also had the ability to upload our own music if it wasn't in the system. We chose not pay the extra "black tie" fee for the ability to choose our DJ (big mistake, as you'll find out later), so Sydney was assigned to us a few weeks before our wedding. She was very responsive and answered emails quickly and said she would coordinate with our videographer so that he could connect with the sound system. A couple weeks before the wedding, she scheduled a phone call with us to go over all the details. She seemed a little low-energy over the phone, but we figured it was a Saturday morning and she probably would get more lively during the event. During the reception, she played the music that we requested and we took some recommendations from our guest. Our dinner ran behind schedule because it took a long time to finish our portraits, and she made sure to check with us throughout the night to confirm schedule adjustments before making any announcements. THE NOT SO GOOD: Part of the planning sheet asks for DJ personality preference and we selected "moderate". We had a lot of children and a little older crowd so we thought this would fit our needs. However, this might be where we went wrong. We feel that Sydney's presentation lacked enthusiasm and we did not receive what we would consider a moderate level of excitement. She was monotone and read from the notes. She looked bored at her desk and did not hype the crowd up at all, not even for the grand entrance. We did a "Mission Impossible" photo challenge (try to take a picture with every table before the song ends) and provided Sydney notes on how it was going to work. We explained in the notes that in case we failed the challenge, we had edited the end of the song to play a couple of funny sound clips (inside jokes for our family) before replaying the song at a faster speed. During our meeting we told her to that we wanted her to announce the challenge and share how it would work. However, she just read from the notes and spoiled the fact that something funny was going to happen if we failed the challenge, and that the music was going to start again and play faster. The challenge was still fun and our guests enjoyed it, but the surprise ending was completely ruined for them. Also, we had discussed that we wanted her to fade out the music for the father-daughter dance at the 3 minute mark, before the final repeated chorus. She confirmed she would do so, but at the reception she played the whole song which was slightly awkward as we had choreographed only three minutes instead of 4 minutes. We had also discussed having speakers on the outside patio during cocktail hour, which were never set up. When guests were to be seated, she informed us that she could not announce to the crowd outside. We were in the area taking pictures, so the bride had to make the announcement. All in all, we ultimately regret choosing Instant Request for our wedding reception. Although the planning tool was top-notch, the service we received was essentially the bare minimum that can be expected from a DJ, and nothing more. Our DJ went through the motions of reading the script and playing the music we asked for, but added zero enthusiasm to the event. We tipped all the staff and confirmed their experiences. We treated the DJ well, fed her well and gave her very clear instructions. My fiancé (now husband!) and I had many reservations about planning a wedding in St. Paul since we live in New York City. We knew there would be challenges with selecting vendors since we weren't local, but Instant Request seemed to be a solid option when we were looking at reviews and feedback from their previous clients. Since we were planning from afar, we decided to go with the Black Tie Service with Instant Request as well as the up-lighting package. We were assigned DJ Rick Ausland for our wedding and after meeting and working with Rick, we don't think a better option could have been available! Rick responded to all emails and made us feel calm in the months leading up to our wedding. We had so many other things to worry about, and he constantly reassured us that we would be in good hands. We finally had a chance to FaceTime with Rick about three weeks before the wedding, and he took his time going over the Instant Request online form with us, answered all of our questions, gave us some ideas, and really made us feel comfortable that everything was going to be perfect on the day of the wedding. And you know what? Rick was right. He had all of the song choices ready to go for our ceremony and introductions. He had a plan for what kind of music to play as the dinner eventually segued into the reception. Once the dancing did start, the dance floor was never empty! We had songs that we wanted to hear, and Rick played them all. However, he also did a great job of reading the room and playing music that got our guests out of their seats. We had a perfect wedding day, and our experience with Rick and Instant Request DJ was definitely a big part of it. Instant Request was an extremely smooth process. My wife and I had DJ Obi and he was absolutely incredible. I gave him a few songs and I told him I trusted him completely to read the room and play what he thinks the people would love. Our DJ from instant request (Charlie) was awesome. He knew exactly what he was doing and made the whole process super easy. He even recommended a couple songs we weren't crazy about but he said the families would love them and sure enough he was right. He told us, "if you play this song, everyone will get on the dance floor and do the same thing together and feel like they're part of something bigger than themselves." It was one of the most lively songs of the wedding. I also reuse his quote all the time in management and organizing contexts because it's true about many things. We were extremely disappointed with our experience! Ryan was our DJ and we had given him specific CDs with International Music on them (as most of our guests were international). Each set of CDs was labeled with the exact genre. Ryan didn't even attempt to play anything from the CDs until the last hour of the evening. I know that there were many Africans that were requesting African music over and over and he simply said that he didn't play it because he wasn't familiar with it. Finally someone gave him their iPhone and said play this exact song!!! We had so many people coming up to us and asking "What's up with this DJ!? Does he not notice that no one is dancing?" We specifically requested a DJs that was familiar with international music and that was comfortable playing it as well. We were told that this would not be a problem at all before our wedding. Our DJ avoided the international music specifically because he didn't know it. If Instant Request had told me directly, up front, "Our DJ's are not comfortable playing African and Latin music, we would best advise you to go to another company where they may be more familiar." I think that would have been more of an honest statement, instead of saying that Ryan was a great fit for our specific needs. This was not even close to the case. Our main request/need was not met and I am extremely disappointed, as were most of our international guests. I wish I had gone with another company! Extremely disappointed! My husband and I used Instant Request for our wedding reception. We both liked Instant Request's online selection of songs and the ability to work out an "event planner" for the DJ way in advance. It was fun to pick out songs in our own home and in our down time, and the selection was extensive. If they didn't have something, they also worked to get it for you if at all possible (or you could give the DJ your own song to play). You can also pick out songs NOT to play no matter what, and songs to only play if people request them. This is useful if you are, say, incredibly opposed to the chicken dance or yet another Macerena. The company itself was responsive and willing to negotiate things with us. They also charge one flat fee--so there was no extra charge for adding an extra mic at the last minute, or getting a different setup. They also coordinate things like the entrance, dinner music, various dances (mother/son, father/daughter) and give you the option NOT to do things if you don't want to (no dollar dance for me, thanks). The DJ himself (Michael O'Shea) was VERY friendly and personable. He got our family to dance and blended the right music intuitively. He was also willing to spend hours on the phone going through our event with my husband, and then meeting face-to-face for my benefit. Additionally, he dressed professionally and was very buttoned up and prepared--it was nice not to have to worry about this element. The only complaint I could have is that--despite repeated requests to turn the music down--it was always just a bit *too* loud. (Or it would get loud again.) It got a bit irritating after a while, but hey--it's a wedding reception, right? read more

5 Stars all the way! DJ Justin Ro is the best! The whole time I was planning my wedding I kept saying to myself, "don't be dramatic, don't be a bridezilla....." I did really well until it was time to finalize the music. Instant Request's online planner was great, but I really needed to see the DJ in person ahead of time to make sure we were on the same page. DJ Justin Ro was perfect. We were very picky about so many things and he was so calming. We chose to upgrade to the Black Tie DJ and use Instant Request because of their up-lighting and monograms available. We chose to spend our money wisely on things that were important to us - the music, the food and the bar. The up-lighting really set the reception apart from other receptions I've been to. It's worth the extra charge and really cut down on centerpieces and other decorations for the hall. And, the font on monogram they created matched the font on my napkins and coasters PERFECTLY! Not sure anyone besides me, but I was freaking out about great it looked. DJ Justin Ro pulled everything off perfectly - from our cheesy cocktail playlist to the timing of the grand march and everything else. One hiccup I didn't know about until the next day - when they turned on the purple uplifting, it was actually orange. My husband looked at DJ Justin Ro and said, "um, it's suppose to be purple, don't let Lisa see this." It was fixed right away. The online planner is great because you get pick what you want and what you don't want. So, if someone requests something not on your list, they don't get it and the DJ just gets to say, "I don't think we have it." Do they cost more than other DJs? I have no idea, but DJ Justin Ro got an extra tip at the end of the night for making everything perfect. read more

Not only was the music great and kept the flow going throughout the evening, she was also very prepared and made sure everyone was in place when needed be. Sam was our wedding DJ and he did such a great job! Even though their online planning system is great, I'm someone who likes to meet in person. Sam took the time to meet with us to make sure our day was great! At the wedding, he worked really hard to keep people happy and dancing. If he put on a song and people started leaving the floor, he would change it right away to keep the party moving! We hired Instant Request Disc Jockey Entertainment in November of 2010 during the start of our wedding planning process. At first we were impressed with their website complete with online planning tools and impressed with our first meeting at their office (although they did address me by the wrong name - Megan instead of Morgan). * They played the wrong song for our Grand March; after he assured us it would be played. * After they dropped off the microphone at the head table for toasts, my father wanted to give the welcome before dinner started, but we had trouble getting the microphone to turn on. We looked for our dj but he had left without notifying us and was gone for 10 minutes. * He got our first dances confused and we had to correct him before they were played. * When we walked onto the dance floor to signal him to announce our first dance, he demanded that "Everyone be quiet." We were shocked. * Out of our 61 "Must Play" songs, they only played 34. We found this especially frustrating since when we met with him a few days before the wedding he informed us that our number of must play songs was not enough to fill a 3-hour period. He did ask for permission to play more songs if he finished our list, and we said okay, as long as they were not club/techno and as long as he kept it clean. He played "Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy" by Big and Rich - a song I personally hate - and was definitely not on our list. He also played several other club songs not on our list, although he seemed to be having a good time since he was singing and dancing to them. This started before our list was finished. * After he played the Big and Rich song, I asked my father to ask that only songs from our list be played for the rest of the night. However, even after my father talked to him, he continued to play his own selection of songs. * He forgot about our dollar dance until an hour before the reception was over. * He made our guests come and find us (and interrupt our conversations with other guests) to ask us permission to play requests. We specifically said in our event planner that we would not be taking any requests. The owner Shawn Plante trivializing our song choices, saying our list was "overloaded with slow songs". After our wedding he brought up new charges for services we received and said we received them for free, despite the fact that we were told said services were included. Shawn informed us that he only gives discounts when there is a lapse in service at an event, but clearly did not count the microphone not working for ten minutes or about forgetting things as a lapse in service. He also said that our dj had "confused our wedding with somebody else's". We are only 50% satisfied with the services provided and we are requesting half of our money back. read more

We received so many recommendations from various wedding vendors and couples who had previously used Instant Request at their own weddings - and with our big day now in the past, it's easy to see why! Instant Request was so professional and responsive to our needs - which was incredibly appreciated since our initial wedding date was during the wedding shutdown due to COVID in December of 2020. Matt actually reached out to us inquiring about our plans before we even communicated with him that we needed to postpone! Our date was quickly rescheduled without any issue or additional work for us - which was so helpful considering the stress of the postponement. We went with Eric as our DJ with the black-tie option. He genuinely took the time to get to know our personalities, music taste and vision for the event during our pre-wedding meeting. It was clear that he wanted to provide us with exactly what we had in mind! He was such a wonderful presence during our ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception - and did a phenomenal job as our DJ! The dance floor was never empty, and he made sure the songs fit the preferences of ALL our guests! We used Instant Request for our Oct 22nd wedding. We couldn't have been more pleased with the results. Our assigned DJ Jeff B contacted us before the wedding to go over what we had submitted online, they had all of the music we needed and were able to supply an iPod they could play from for some of our very obscure selection (some very specific Polish polka bands). We had an older crowd (30s-70s) and there wasn't a song that went by that people weren't dancing to. I would not have been able to keep the energy up but he did such an amazing job.
