I brought my machine in for annual maintenance. I was told it would take about two weeks, although the receipt PROMISED the maintenance by 7/21/25. At three weeks I called for a status check. I was told it would be "just a little bit longer". On 7/21/25 I called and was told my machine had not been worked on yet. I was told it would be "a little bit longer". I asked for a specific date and was told there wasn't one. I asked what the promised date on my receipt meant and was not given an answer. my point on this post is business practice and customer service. DONT say something will be done in two weeks when you know it won'T. DONT a give the "just a little bit longer" line. it just makes people angry. DONT promise, in writing, a date when a service will be completed and there is no intention to have the work done. DO contact the customer before the promised completion date and let them know the service will not be completed on time and throw in a discount or freebie. (I.e. keep your customers). Set your employees up for success by not making them engage in making up excuses for poor service. I finally got my machine back and what do you know? the promise date was changed on the receipt. I signed up for a class a few weeks ago, and was uninformed that there would be a list of materials I needed to purchase before the class. The class was $50, and I was sent the list of materials in an email 3 minutes before the start of the class, so I had to purchase $60 worth of materials upon arrival. Which felt intentional, so I would have to buy from their store specifically and miss out on cheaper alternatives. The sewing pattern they were teaching in the class was also not included in the price so I had to purchase that myself as well. I will say that the workers in the store were nice, however their website and employees have lacked transparency of prices and organizational skills. Furthermore, prices were not included on the website for a sewing machine maintenance and check-up. When I called the store, I was told the price would only be $30-40 dollars, and then extra if a part was missing and had to be purchased. When I turned in my sewing machine for this service, I payed $30 and based on the information I received, believed that to be the end of it. Today when I went to pick it up, the workers tried to charge me $100 for it. I tried arguing and brought up how I had already paid... they told me that was "a deposit" and then took it off, although they would have charged me twice if I had not brought that up. My total for this machine repair was over $100, even though I had been told originally it would be $30 on the phone. Furthermore, no part or fix had to be made on my machine. It was cleaned and a screw was adjusted and I was still charged $70 more than I had been told. Their website lacks this information so the fact prices and materials have been left up to "word of mouth" has cost me $217 when I was only expecting to pay around $80. My review would just be to be cautious about undisclosed information and extra prices. I feel taken advantage of based on being expected to pay extra when correct information was not given to me. Both on the accounts of taking a class as well as getting my machine looked at. Also I was told when I purchased the pattern for the class I would get sent it but it's been 3 weeks and I still haven't received it. read more

I inherited a 1970s model Singer that was in desperate need of a tune-up and was thrilled to hear that Inspired to Sew had the capacity to do it! Before going in, I was envisioning vintage McCall's pattern envelopes and musty smells. Boy was I wrong!!!!! Clearly sewing has kept kept with the times. I love this fabric shop! This is my go-to fabric store in the area. They specialize in materials for quilting so the selection is mostly cotton-based. The only downside is that I tend to work with knits the majority of the time (I'm not a quilter) so there's generally fewer options for me to choose from. This is still my go-to fabric store though because they are growing their organic cotton selection (they carry fabric from Birch and Cloud9 Fabrics!), they partner with a good handful of small fabric suppliers to offer modern designs, the staff is very friendly, plus their shop is nice and clean. read more

They offer tons of classes and workshops every day of the week. They carry Aurifil thread, which is what brought me there in the first place. Incredible customer support. They reached out to me about my order when their town -- and business -- had been hit by storms and flooding, knocking out their electricity and internet for days. Jill emailed me to let me know they had double-checked my order for accuracy and had mailed it out. This for an out-of-state, very small-potatoes order of just a few ribbons. I hope this friendly small business with incredible inventory and heart survives both floods and Covid, so they can continue to serve their local community and those of us using the web to find them. My complaint is the repair of a Bernina sewing machine. I believe they committed FRAUD. They said they replaced a internal circuit card to repair a keyboard button failure. I asked for the broken circuit card, and they said it was being shipped to somewhere. As they charged for a new card, the broken card belongs to ME. I believe the fix was most likely a simple connector problem, and they bill fraudulently for a new circuit assembly. I will NEVER do business with Pine Needles in Cedar Rapids ever again. read more

I bought a floor model 440QE Bernina at a quilt show. It was in excellent condition, and I love it! Six months later, I bought the embrodiery attachment. I've never done machine embroidery before, and have become seriously addicted to it! I brought my machine in for one-day service for it's yearly check-up and cleaning. Since I did this, I once again am a gold member, which allows me discounts on purchases. When ever I've had a problem and called the store, a staff member has ALWAYS been polite and helpful! I love this store and have recommended it to my friends. As to the prior post, talking about the card...I think you should have asked that the old card be saved and returned to you. Sometimes mistakes are made by the staff, but heavens..none of us are perfect. read more

The free class they offered to become familiar with the new machine, Meet My New Bernina, taught me everything I needed to know to get started with the machine, and I came out having made a handy makeup bag.
