Our son is challenged and thriving academically, as well as nurtured emotionally. The co teaching model is amazing and special. 2 certified teachers in a class of 24 students max. They also have learning specialists that are able to help children if they need a little extra assistance but they do it in a fun way so the kids do not view as a negative. In fact my son loved his small group time with the reading specialist. We love that they have Spanish twice a week, as well as very strong academics across the usual subjects including STEM. We love their student lead conferences because it teaches students public speaking skills in front of their parents in which they can present what they have been working on. After the "presentation" then the parents have opportunity to speak to teachers in the more traditional private format. We are not religious and feel that the religious aspect of the school is not overwhelming but rather teaches good morals and ethics. The community is amazing! It really is a small school in a big city with a family feel. The teachers are also very responsive when parents reach out. They have before & after school care. We often sign up for enrichment classes after school which have been great. They have ranged from stem, yoga and chess. Many graduates continue high school at high ranked Catholic schools like St Ignatius AND the #1 ranked high school in Illinois Walter Payton. We originally looked at Lincoln Elementary (CPS), St Clements, Catherine Cook and FXW but chose ICSJ for the reasons above. It may not have the big name factor of some other schools but I would definitely check out this hidden gem because it's an incredible school!

I love our little school! The teachers and administration are excellent. My daughters have attended…read moresince preschool (now in first and fourth grade, respectively) and I am grateful for the down-to-earth education they are receiving and the tight-knit community of staff and parents. Reading the bad review from Yesenia due to lack of diversity is incredibly frustrating. My children are bi-racial but very light-skinned. How can one judge the merits of a school based on the color of its students and staff? For the record, there are Indian, Asian, Hispanic and other Black families at the school including several Hispanic staff members and a teacher of Indian descent - but that does not and should not matter! What ever happened to building a nation of citizens "where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."? For the other parents who found that their children did not succeed at CM; perhaps an AMI Montessori program is not a good fit for your child. CM is one of two AMI-accredited schools with an Adolescent Program in Chicago, which means they follow the original standard of teachings developed by Maria Montessori. There is no technology in the classroom and students are expected to self-govern their time and develop personal responsibility for their work and education, which is exactly why we love the program. In regard to the comment about the "long time veteran teacher" leaving; she retired and is still involved with the school. Furthermore, I can assure you, things are not falling apart. We were fortunate to have in-person learning for all of the 2020/2021 school year with masks, temp checks and frequent hand washing and thankfully there were no Covid outbreaks. CM is a tight ship and my daughters are thriving.

If students are having trouble in class, then teachers aides take them to the side to work on their problem areas. Students are challenged according to their abilities and are gently prodded to excel. It is almost like an extension of your family when it comes to the care/efforts put forth by the faculty & staff for the students. As a parent I can honestly say that my interactions at the school were more enjoyable and inclusive than they were at the private school. The education provided by all the GREAT TEACHERS over the years helped to enable my daughter to be prepared for that arduous task of Selective Enrollment and it got her into Northside College Prep. If you are debating whether to place your child at this wonderful neighborhood school; take the leap of faith as you will not be disappointed.
