Feels a little strange writing a review for my therapist, but Lorena is not just an amazing…read moretherapist but an overall amazing person as well. She is extremely knowledgable, encouraging, and a total natural at prompting me to find/explore solutions instead of just telling me what to do, which has boosted my confidence and helped me grow as a person tremendously. She has seen me at my highs and lows and has never once made me feel judged or uncomfortable, even when I was very self-critical. I am being 100% genuine when I say that Lorena has truly saved my life on multiple occasions, and the work we've done together in the past 2 years has been transformative. I'll be sad when I can't see her regularly anymore, but I'm very grateful for her time, patience and support. I haven't worked with the other counselors in this clinic but in the small interactions we've had, they always make me feel welcome and safe so I would highly recommend checking this place out and finding a therapist here that best suits your needs. I've learned that it's as important (if not more so) to take care of your mental health as it is your physical, so don't hesitate to seek help!

I sincerely wish I had followed my instincts after looking up the employee reviews on Glassdoor…read more It says a lot about a business when you see how employees past and present feel about its management. During my outpatient treatment, I had a discussion with one of the counselors and she told me about her experience when she interviewed at BRR. She had a similar feelings about the management. The validation was really helpful. Be wary of the fact that there are relationships between staff that are important to know. I had difficulty with a mental health staff member and did not find out until later on that he is married to the main operations person. I had been told by my dietitian during a session and it was like she thought I had already known. Believe me when I say it caused more anxiety and concern. You need to know upfront that they operate on a team basis. Which under most cases wouldn't be a bad thing however you have no safe space to vent about how you feel without it being seen as a barrier to your treatment. They also have no concept in helping people deal with their "real lives" outside of ED treatment. I was denied computer time even during downtime on the weekend when I needed it most to support my licensing renewal. The one person that helped patients with "adult computer and phone time" on Wednesday's treatment team day (a non scheduled treatment morning) was soon missing from the staff. I'm pretty sure she was let go because of this incident. We are more than our eating disorder and they don't allow you to think otherwise. We all have responsibilities outside of our treatment and they look the other way. It's almost as if they don't care about other things that are important to us. Be very, very careful if you have other things that you need to address while in treatment. Also be careful about how you answer the intake questions. I mentioned something that was related to an iron deficiency. It was seen as a behavior, and thus I was never allowed ice in my water or other drinks. It pissed me off to no end and of course that just made them feel like it was justified. Hard enough to have to eat so much food and snacks and not be able to have just a cold glass of water. It was messed up. Pretty much everything is a "behavior" until they say otherwise. I also found out later when I went back to my primary treatment team at Kaiser that they were kept pretty much in the dark about details of the treatment. There was no formal documentation. I later requested my treatment records from BRR, and it took well over eight weeks to receive it, which was clearly against the law. I don't think they had a reporting system set up that would adequately document the treatment plan in notes. Only after I went to Kaiser's membership services that surprisingly I received it within the next two days. I'm glad other people had a good experience and are thankful for their treatment. However, this place is not for everyone! Do your homework before making a decision on your treatment plans. I hope this is helpful. I also encourage you to read the review by Kenneth G. I just wish it had been available when I was first researching this treatment center.

Krystal Dreisbach improperly uses CBT in a way that comes across as gaslighting. She admits that…read moreCBT is not the solution for every situation, yet she still managed to misuse CBT in our sessions. I once told her I felt like I was being sexually harassed and preyed upon by strangers and possibly pedophiles who thought I was underage. She suggested positive ways of viewing the situation, such as being happy that people found me attractive. I rejected her suggestion because it made me uncomfortable. I would never view sexual harassment and unwanted predation as a compliment when I made it very clear I did NOT want that attention. I find it very distressing that she thought that people sexually harassing me could be seen as a compliment. Other times when I brought up the subject, she told me to move on. She was not comforting at all. Another problem that arose was that she often doubted much of what I said and she kept wondering if I was just misinterpreting most situations and if I was the real problem. Thing is, I've talked to multiple other people about sexual harassment and they agree it's a genuine issue. I've talked to counselors and previous therapists about it and they also agree. In some incidents they've told me to make a police report and I did. Just because I am autistic and I struggle with social cues does not mean all my social judgments are wrong. Autistics can learn social cues and they are not clueless in every social encounter. I've talked to several non-autistics about this who agree with me and it's very tiring for sexual harassment victims to be doubted constantly like this when we speak up. Dreisbach also once told me that "everyone is a little autistic" which a therapist should know not to say because that is actually a very discriminatory phrase within the autistic community. Autism is a lifelong experience that not everyone has, so not everyone is autistic. Not everyone is denied jobs due to being unable to control body language, not everyone is comorbid for other mental disorders, not everyone has extreme physical sensitivities to the point of being able to function. It's like if I gave a listening ear to a friend and then said "everyone is a little bit of a therapist". It's not comforting when somebody says that, it's dismissive and it minimizes the autistic experience by assuming everyone knows what it's like when in reality they don't, or at least not to the same degree, and this is why autism is designated as a separate category from allistic people in the first place. Because we are different. I've discussed these issues with her and it still feels like there is a lack of understanding. Dreisbach's usage of CBT feels like medical gaslighting and I would not recommend her in good faith. She is very dismissive.
