Inside Arden is a great local business print media. It's a great source for business advertising and just to read local stories in the area.

I showed the waitress and manager the picture and they didn't recognize it. I can't fault the restaurant for false advertisement, but I can fault the magazine. The only reason I went to the restaurant is due to the article. Please stop your false advertising. You are only hurting the business. I will be canceling my subscription. I don't want to waste any more time driving out of town to be handing something I did not expect. The restaurant is great and doesn't deserve this.

Ok, so how many freaking times can you devote an entire issue of magazine to FOOD. How many times? Well, if you're Sacramento Magazine, roughly 10 issues a year. "Best Hamburger in Sacramento," "Top 10 Places for a Romantic Meal." "Top 14 Restaurants In the South-Westish Corner of Suburbia Sacramento." WTF. There's so much more here than FOOD! And then they did the wedding issue. They interviewed several of us who gave more than enough material to write an informational story on getting married in Sacramento. What did they do? Well. They gave that entire section to House of Fashion, which I imagine paid them supremely to do so. And if you really wanna know about House of Fashion, you can see my review on that hellhole, too. I cancelled my subscription to this magazine about 6 months after starting it. Get a clue, Sacramento Mag. No one gives a damn about yet another "benefit," and "Who's Who" around Sacramento. Cripes, I get more info on Sacramento from Yelp than I do your ad-ridden pile of paper.

I have been a subscriber for over 50 yrs. My review centers around service. For many years I…read moresubscribed to the Bee and it was delivered by a neighborhood carrier. The service was very good because you could call the carrier if there was a problem with delivery. Then, once there was no carrier you had to call the Bee office re: delivery or other problems. That has not been satisfactory. I recently signed on for the Bee's online service, but I don't like it as much as the printed copy.

Beware of the subscriptions here, even after you stop paying they will continue the subscription…read morecharges and create an outstanding balance that is significantly higher than you would expect. It's also very difficult to cancel a subscription, the website is bugged and doesn't work properly, they force you into a phone call, where they attempt to make you pay a balance you never agreed too in the first place. They will eventually send this outstanding balance to collections to further profit off of you. Very shady business tactics and disgraceful for a news paper outlet. My family has been reading the Bee since we moved to Sacramento back in the early 60's, it's always been a reputable name. Well, not anymore. The companies been sold and the customer care is non existent. There's a reason they're going out of business and the reason is self afflicted greed, desperation and dishonesty from a failing company.

After a few experiences of eating atac the editorial reviews of restaurants and several businesses I'm sort'a done with the magazine. The whole magazine is obviously a pay to play publication. Read any issue with the glowing reviews of a restaurant. Pull the restaurant up on Yelp and learn the truth that the restaurant barely averages 3.5 stars. That's been my constant experience with 5 recommendations. Then there's the overall magazine content. 90% of the magazine is slick advertisements both big and small. This publication should be free. It's just a chamber of commerce purely capitalistic printing that should be in airport free kiosks and hotel lobbies.

Like many magazines, there is a fair amount of advertising, but the in-depth pieces (which are thoroughly researched and some of the best journalism in the region) are second-to-none and really reflect a passion and pride for Sacramento. I recently learned that Sactown has a much wider circulation now than Sacramento Magazine. I think this comes down to a number of factors. 1) Their graphics department is top-notch and does a consistently good job of assembling colorful and catchy cover designs to pull you in. 2) They have a finger on the pulse of stories that are current and important to their readers. I read their wonderful piece recently on the new owner of the Kings, as well as editorials on saving and preserving landmarks and the farm-to-fork movement. All are representative of what's important to Sacramento now, and the readers appreciate that. I took advantage of one of their many deals and my yearly subscription costs next to nothing. To get even one quality article on local happenings each month is well-worth the cost.

Naturally, I spent most of my time downstairs. The bookseller on the lower level was so knowledgeable! We got into a whole conversation and they pointed me toward several horror picks I never would have found on my own, including some horror graphic novels I'm genuinely excited about. That kind of interaction is exactly why indie bookstores matter. They also have an in-person horror book club, which honestly made me a little sad because I couldn't join. If I lived in Sacramento, I would 100% be a regular here. Highly recommend if you're passing through.
