I was taking part with a couple of the other girls that lived on my street, so we typically carpooled to practice with one of the parents of the three of us. Towards the beginning of practices the parking lot could be packed. The upside of that was that once we found parking the hardest part tended to be over. The locker rooms were medium sized and handled the number of swimmers well, however the showers could get a bit cramped after practice. The pool was well equipped for our younger kids practices, including having kickboards and blocks to practice starts/dives from. There was seating along the side of the pool, which was nice for if the parent(s) wanted to sit and watch us during our swim practice. My sister would come and read from her paper bag wrapped textbooks for class on occasion as well. Desk workers were professional.

Our kids were able to get much more one-on-one attention and make progress much faster instead of spending so much time waiting around. My son recently graduated from Level 6 after a couple of years with McDonald Swim School. We've also been really lucky with our instructors. Sarah was amazing before she left, and Robyn has been so awesome with the kids. They do such a great job of keeping lessons fun while still helping the kids learn and improve. Our kids look forward to swim lessons and we are so happy to be with McDonald Swim School!

They have everything you need including paddles, kayaks and life jackets. It was beautiful cool sunny breezy day. We enjoyed being out on the water with only the geese, one speedboat with a water skier and one other two-person kayak. Super serene and peaceful . Managed to get only our feet slightly wet. If I lived up here, I'd take up kayaking as a regular hobby, because it's fun! Thanks to the two lifeguards at poolside today who guided my friend through the online reserving of the kayak and then told us how to find all the equipment at the shed and shore. Highly recommend!

Due to many cars during the meets, there was a bit of a walk to get to the pool for competitions, but not really hills to make the walk difficult. The pool deck around the pool was small, so we came with the be extra considerate mentality when swimming here because everyone was cramped. My first-ever post-season swim meet was here in 1999. It was B-Champs, a meet for those who failed to make the time cuts for prelims. I loved the pool and how fun the meet was. There was more joy on the pool deck than I later observed at the meets reserved for the fast swimmers. If there was one hook for me competing the full 12 summer seasons I did, it was that first B-Champs in 1999 for me and that I would get to swim at the Sheridan Beach pool again if I continued competing. I loved the four-lane pool. It was a unique competition environment and a tight fit in the competition space that I liked. Outside the pool deck was concessions, a large grassy area, and a playground. Our coaches encouraged us not to waste our energy playing on the playground. We found that allowed for some healthy rebellion, playing for five to ten minutes during the meets to make sure we did not lose sight of the fact we were kids. The space did not lose its magic when I became a teenager.

Would highly recommend to anyone wanting their child to feel more comfortable in the water and more importantly, to obtain and hone valuable self-rescue skills.

Staff usually man the desk at the entry and can answer questions, point you in the right direction and provide information about the goings-on at the community center.

First off, it's indoors, which means swimming all year round. It's huge, has diving boards, a few bleachers to sit, and is freaking cold. Sign up early for lessons and classes. Always call ahead to check for closures due to cleaning and maintenance. These people really need to heat their pool better. Especially for all the kids swimming in it. We've done the baby class here and it's terrible for children and infants to have to brave cold water. I've seen plenty of people having to leave early because their infant can't handle the cold. I know they've been informed of the problem, but they don't seem to care. And honestly, it is a tad cold even for me and I'm a god damn Polar Bear Plunge member! I love to cold water swim but not when I'm in a pool. The locker rooms are decent. Clean. Enough benches, only one changing table though. Plenty of hooks, lockers, showers and toilets. Even some crazy-spiny-dry-your-wet-stuff thing. Strangely enough, Seattle sure has some body issues. It's just silly to see grown women nervously and dangerously stumbling under a towel so no one can see their "goodies" while trying to carol their children. Maybe I've just been in the medical world too long or I just have no shame. Either way, prepare to get looked at like a leper if you get naked without reservation. The parking is ample, though you get plenty of Lake City spill off and slack-jawed yokel teens running around. So watch your belongings and lock the doors. Vandalism and break-ins are normal. And it is so close to the beautiful Meadowbrook Pond. A great excuse to explore that area.

The locker showers weren't as scalding as they are at Meadowbrook (which is a good thing!), albeit still borderline too hot, IMHO. The hot tub is a lovely touch when trying to thermoregulate (ie warm up) before swimming laps! I think it should actually be warmer, personally, and I usually can't even handle hot temps! All in all, a very positive experience here. I felt cared about while there, which means so much.

The bigger pool is cooler but not cold. Kids under 18 need to pass a swim test in order to use deeper parts of the pool. Anyone can use the slide, if they have a life jacket or a parent catches them at the bottom of the slide. We like to go for the early swim, pack a picnic and eat after the swim and then sign up for the second swim and make a day out of it. I like that they have free life jackets to borrow and 50cent towel rentals. Parking can be tricky and the swims do tend to sell out so get there early and line up, or you could be turned away.

Lifesaver Staff is friendly and is constantly changing every few minutes. I guess to keep a sharp eye and not getting tired?

The Klahaya Swim & Tennis Club grounds were well maintained and a nice community space when I…read morecompeted in the Seattle Summer Swim League 1999 to 2010 for Innis Arden. The parking lot is medium size and during swim meets the church across the street was kind and allowed overflow parking, so the walk was not too far. During my younger years, the blocks were a bit like a very thick and durable plastic table and the backstroke hand rungs were sharp (not piercing) on my fingers. The top of the blocks could get slick and were on the flatter side. Some of the Klahaya swimmers expressed glee about how their pool had the "cleanest" blocks because they were flat. There was some debate on whether using slightly tilted and rough-surfaced blocks constituted cheating in a race. It was commonly agreed upon wedge technology for starting blocks counted as cheating. I was thankful for the flatter blocks because it helped me realize how much a rough surface on a block and a slight tilt could change the depth of a dive off a block and overall dive form. The pool was well designed for waiting for races both on the benches and behind the blocks, watching the swimmers from the bleachers or the side/end of the lanes, and a large grassy area next to the tennis courts provided space to spread out a blanket and/or chairs. Concessions were easy to find, though the line could flow into the walking path if long. Locker rooms were easy to access from the pool deck.

Membership is limited and the wait list to join takes a bit but those in the know, enjoy this little private community club. Starch-boy, our son, has enjoyed attending several birthday parties here. The staff is well versed in safety instruction and they have requirements of the swimmers to allow them into the deep ends of the pool. The facility is always clean, plenty of parking and the staff are always helpful. Only knock against it is the pool is only open seasonally.
