The only people who were kind and respectful were the nurse practitioner and the medical assistant. The front desk staff, however, had a very nasty attitude and made me feel uncomfortable from the moment I walked in. While the nurse practitioner was polite, there was a major lack of communication when I was given medication. I was not told about possible side effects, how to take it, or what to expect. I had to ask the medical assistant for help, and when she offered to bring the NP back so I could get clarification, I was essentially told to just read the label. For a medical setting, that level of care and guidance is not acceptable. When you're seeking urgent reproductive or gynecological care, you should feel supported, informed, and treated with compassion. That was not my experience here. The lack of bedside manner and poor communication made an already stressful situation worse.

I asked to be re-scheduled and they gave me an appointment with the doctor's Physician Assistant, a young man named Eduardo Ronquillo. He didn't look at my knee at all, in fact he didn't come within 6 feet of me. He didn't ask whether I had pain, didn't look at the swelling. He stood behind his computer and brought my x-ray up on the screen. To every question I asked he responded with derision. Someone (perhaps my primary care doctor) had told him I was interested in a knee replacement. He seemed to think it was his job to ridicule both me and the idea that I would want this operation. Mr Ronquillo was the most hostile medical professional I have ever met, and the least competent.

I also feel that Kaiser is so politically strong in California that when they make a mistake, it is very difficult to sue them for malpractice. I fell down stairs and fractured my back. The ambulance company said we have to take you to JFK…read moresince it is the closest hospital. I said NO that place is a dump, I want to go to Eisenhower. The paramedic said JFK has an outstanding ER, better than the other hospital and it is a Level 1 Trauma hospital. JFK is run down, the entrance to the ER looks like it's located in a 3rd world country, terrible. The ER waiting room is even worse, tiny, old chairs and honestly looks like a set in a NYC movie, crummy. The care I received was FANTASTIC! The ER is really small, 10 beds, is screaming for a remodel and more space, the staff is packed in there. The nurses, the orderly that took me for the Cat Scan, the female doctor, they were all wonderful. I was lucky to be placed in a storage room where it was quiet and not the main ER space. I had a good experience, but it's difficult to recommend a hospital that is so shabby and run down. I hope the building is remodeled and updated because the ER staff is top notch.

While I waited I conveniently received " an estimate " of $300.00 which I paid on the spot. I was left in this wooden chair the entire time and no one came to check on me. The nurse offered the man next to be a warm blanket ; he declined but I asked to have his. None was offered to me and none was brought. I had to walk to the rest room dragging my empty iv bag behind me wrapped around my arm. The doctor was helpful and got me a diagnosis and started my road to feeling better. I was very sick and in some pain. The billing department was the highlight of my poor experience. They were never helpful and ignored my questions. Never ever going here again. Being busy does not give you permission to treat your patients without courtesy and respect. Zero stars. My account balance is zero but I had to make so many unnecessary calls just to make them do their jobs.
