cute welcome sign!
Courtney C.

This place is probably cutest and most quaint inn/hotel/b&b I've ever stayed at! My friend and I were passing through the area on a road trip to St. Louis and decided to spend one night here and it was perfect!! We stayed on the second floor in a spacious 2 bedroom 'suite.' There were two twin beds in one room and a huge king bed with fluffy white linens in the other room. The room was beautiful- just be cautious of the low ceilings if you're tall! The bathroom was beautiful and very nicely updated. Downstairs, the inn is stunning. It is beautifully decorated with period pieces, gorgeous woodwork throughout, plus they keep amazing plants everywhere! Maggie greeted us and she might be, no joke, one of the nicest people I've ever met in my life. She was so gracious and accommodating, offering up suggestions and information about a short hike we should take in the morning. We ordered breakfast for the AM and it was the cutest breakfast I ever did see- nothing fancy but delicious. We had warm rolls with butter and jelly, hard boiled eggs, and a gorgeous parfait. After breakfast we took a short walk to the trail and did the little hike (about a mile) down and up Brandywine falls. It is a great location in that regard- right on the edge of Cuyahoga Valley National Park. And, at checkout, Maggie gave us chocolate chip cookies to go which hit the spot later on in our trip. If back in the area, I would definitely stay here again.

We selected this Inn so that we would be within the national park. We stayed in the Loft Suite. Being from Oregon we are used to rustic accommodations as we have stayed in a number of US Forest Service cabins, some without water or indoor plumbing; a few we had to snowshoe in to. This is not as rustic as those but be forewarned that the lighting level is low. It is helpful to have the use of a flashlight at times. Also, if one has a balance issue know the stairs can be a little tricky. All that said, we rate this space highly as it is quiet, secluded, comfortable, and in a great location.

They provided duraflame logs in the room, loved having a fire

We had a lovely stay with our two young kids. Maggie was wonderfully helpful and let the kids feed the sheep if she saw them playing outside. The loft was spacious and perfect for our needs. The light from the floor to ceiling windows was beautiful. Every morning, the staff would bring breakfast in two picnic baskets and set it up on our dining table. One morning the hard boiled eggs were raw -- but I just called the front desk, and they apologized and sent a new batch of eggs right away. There's also a fridge and microwave which was very convenient. Upon check in, they leave treats in the room for you (fruit, cookies, Buckeyes) and they also left two gallons of drinking water and microwave popcorn and hot chocolate. The loft room had a coffeemaker but my only gripe is that they provide better coffee than Folgers and maxwell house which was super watery. But everything else was perfect and the kids already are asking to return!

Our favorite decoration. A coffee table with "brooding" chickens.

We showed up after hours, and left before breakfast. The review is based off solely our overnight experience. The place is very boutique like. Small rooms maybe 4 or 5 rooms. Upon arrival we self checked in by code and received our key by the door. The pictures online are very different than what the rooms actually look like. Very tiny, very outdated, very dark. The balcony view is on the main road so it's not much of a view. The room is old fashioned but cute. It gets the job done for sleeping and getting ready. Very tiny bathroom. The 2 person tub in the room is not a bad touch however it takes forever to fill up, and drain. It is a duel tub/shower combo so you have options. A nice arsenal of shower supplies are available. The bed is extremely old. Very noisy. It is a small Queen bed with not very good pillows. We brought our own. The real big issue with the Inn is there is almost zero privacy. All the rooms are very close by, and the walls are paper thin. At numerous different times we would be able to hear other people just talking normal. Not being over the top loud, just normal conversations. The Inn also has a community room with tea, coffee, mini fridge etc however that location right In the middle, makes that even possible to hear anyone speaking in that location. I know it's early Spring but the grounds need a little TLC. Dead flowers, dead branches, a bunch of junk and misc supplies laying around. They have a walkway to walk through the "gardens" but it's not a good time to walk through right now. Very unorganized and messy. The Inn has a chance to be neat. A little upkeep, a little more space and you never know. The Host or Innkeepers are not there so they have instructions on how to reach them and how to access certain things. The check in- check out process is easy. I'm not sure if the place is worth the price $125 as the location is nearby a lot of different things but you can probably get the same experience at a normal hotel. I probably would not be interested staying again The beds hurt my back and people talking at all hours got annoying. I had to have my tv loud just to block out the chatter. I would probably give this place a 6.9 to 7 points out of 10.

It's new, and it's the only B&B in Berea, with the quaint downtown square right around the corner. The owners are quick to respond to any problems, the location is fantastic, the beds are good. Even the *towels* here are top-notch. When I checked to make sure I didn't have down pillows, I found brand new allergy shield pillow covers on high-quality synthetic pillows. When you stay in a B&B in an old Victorian or heritage home, usually that means dealing with a tiny bathroom, undersized shower, and so on; the beautiful old home that houses Riverside Gables was completely renovated in fall 2012, with nice big showers, new fixtures, and new floors. Guests even have a sitting room, with a kitchenette and fridge, Keurig coffee machine, spare dishes, and (my favorite) electric kettle and teapots for tea. Glass bottles of water are kept chilled for the use of the guests, and it was great to have that bottle of water to take to my room (and also not feel like I was wasting a plastic bottle just to have something cold to drink.) There's also a separate back door for guests. Breakfast has been excellent: fruit salad to start, juice, a beautiful omelette the first time I stayed and a Belgian waffle this morning. The owners have a beautiful Golden Retriever, but he is not allowed in the B&B portion of the house. Catherine is lovely to talk to, knowledgeable about the area, and responsive to the needs and preferences of her guests. If business brings me back to the area, I will *definitely* put this place at the top of my list.

The bathrooms are sizable and modern, the bedrooms are cozy and comfortable, plus there's a sitting room if you want to get out of the bedroom. The owners are pleasant and sociable and they've got a friendly Golden Retriever who's quiet and stays out of the guest part of the house. Second best is that they've got both a Tesla wall charger and a J1772 charger for those with electric cars, and the best thing is that you have the delightful Rocky River Valley across the street for driving and recreation.

The bathroom tile (Room 14) has excess grout all over the tiles, which could have been easily cleaned. Bath towels are what you would expect at Motel 6. Fireplace did not work. Continental breakfast was extremely sparse. How hard would it be to get some baked goods from the next door bakery. Due to room availability, we stayed a few nights in Room 10 and then Room 8 for a couple nights. Both rooms are on the second floor. This was the first time we stayed since the remodeling. The updates are very nice and most welcome. At all times, the staff was friendly and engaging. Nanette and Maggie were especially helpful. I wish that this could be a five star review for this charming and historic inn. However, some important issues subtract stars. MINUS 1 STAR: The lack of an elevator requires one to climb the staircase, a task made more difficult with luggage. The stairs present a challenge for seniors and those with health concerns. Though quaint, the round doorknobs and metal room keys present challenges for those with arthritis or other conditions. MINUS 1 STAR: The prior reviews regarding the HVAC in the rooms remain in force. Adjusting the heat was difficult. We ultimately found it easier to turn the gas fireplace on and off as needed. And the water heater is insufficient. On Sunday morning, we ran out of hot water as other guests were first to shower and bathe. MINUS 1 STAR: The remodel sacrifices guest functionality for accessorizing. Nearly every flat surface in both rooms was filled with pottery and other decorations. As a result, we laid our hard side suitcases open on the floor and operated from there. In Room 8, which features dark blue walls and a dark wood floor, a pair of short black tables holding pottery and other objects sit at the corner of the bed. To avoid tripping over these at night, I draped a white tee-shirt over these.
