My 14 y o daughter did all her own research for a septum piercing, saved up for it, and felt ready. Of course she was still nervous and had questions for her piercer. Enter Tina. Trust me, if your minor is getting a body piercing, Tina is who you want holding the needle. She came around from the counter, sat on the bench with my daughter, answered all her questions, eased her anxiety. From this conversation alone, I knew my daughter was in good hands. If you're wondering what to bring, they took her state ID and birth certificate for age verification, and my license for parental authorization. Fill out a form and it's on to the piercing booth !! Tina explained each step directly to my daughter, respecting her as the informed client. She was clearly in tune with my teen's body language; I cannot emphasize enough how well Tina kept the energy in the room a perfect balance of relaxed anticipation. She took care preparing my daughter's little nose, gently probing to identify the "sweet spot" while talking her through all of it. My daughter said the needle was less painful than she expected. She's been so excited for this moment and is really thrilled with the result. Her silver septum clicker looks adorable, and she is relieved it's perfectly centered. Care instructions were provided along with cleaning solution. Tina made sure we understood what to expect of the healing process and set us up with a few checkup appointments. My artist was Frankie and do not let the word apprentice scare you, as she is a fantastic artist and did a great job of making my tattoo perfectly the way I wanted it. Tricia was still there close by to guide her, but I see Frankie as becoming a long-term part of the team beyond her apprenticeship. Don't hesitate to reach out to them about your needs, and be patient with the waiting time as it is worth it! Then, I stopped in to check the place out and see if an artist's work spoke to me. I told the young lady at the front desk what I was looking for in a tattoo, and she immediately called back for Morgan Buenos. Of the times I have spent in tattoo studios, this was the FIRST time an artist came out, sat down with me, and consulted about what I really wanted. It was a true collaboration. I was able to also email Morgan for a few weeks before the appointment, and what he brought to the appointment blew me away. He was kind, funny, and professional. I can confirm that the place is very clean. You can smell the cleaning products when you walk in. Morgan showed me all the new needles and all he was using. I appreciate that. The price is comparable to all other studios. You can expect at least $150/ hour with nearly any reputable studio, and Golden Monkey is on par. Truly, do yourself a favor--you get what you pay for. I cannot speak to any of the other artists or employees, but the receptionist is very kind and patient, and Morgan is quite the artist. He has a style but is absolutely willing to work outside of that style. If you are new to tattoos, want a cover up, or looking for someone who will truly collaborate with you and exceed your expectations, please see Morgan. He is an artist in his own right outside of even tattooing and has exhibitions as well. (I found this out during our fairly long sitting). NOT good when you're talking about trying to find a tattoo shop to not only take you as a walk in but a second person as well. Driving 30 mins and fighting through traffic and having my hopes up being told over the phone by another shop (not gonna say any names but they're very known downtown Fredericksburg) to come on down - We were turned away because of how ridiculously packed they were. There's no reason I should have even been told to come, they had been packed since opening. So now the cat is out of the bag and my husband now knows about the surprise even though it was a fail... he's crazy excited with the idea so now we're both sitting in the car calling around to see who has availability to do 2 walk in. After almost giving up, I came on YELP and decided to call one last shop. That shop was TATTOO HAVEN. I wish I could remember the gentleman's name who owned the place and picked up ... but he was very upfront with me in telling me they had some time now and could do it today (I told him the pieces were very small) but I may have to do some waiting around. Cool with us. Immediately walking in, we were greeted by 3 people like we were old time friends. I felt welcomed, invited and when I showed what tattoos I wanted - they even shared my enthusiasm. My husband and I are both big Harry Potter fans and the piece we got was a HP theme. It turned into a pretty dope convo about HP with all 3 of the shop employees. I say all this really bc sometimes (ok a lot of the times) walking into a tattoo shop can be pretty intimidating. I have thick skin and sometimes even I get a little rubbed the wrong way with some of the mannerisms of tattoo artists and shop owners. This was the opposite of that. From the initial phone call, to walking in - I truly felt so at ease here. Honestly I could see this as a place I would come to just chill on the couch as if you would do with friends. Now for the actual work done. We friggin LOVE it! Diesel is who did both my husband and I work and the longest time was just waiting for him to draw it up, making sure it was exactly as we wanted it. After that he got us in and out of his chair surprisingly quick. May have even been quicker if it weren't for the fact that we all talked so much lol. I will most def go back to Diesel for any work from now. Our oldest daughter is turning 18 next week and wants some ink and I feel more than comfortable bringing her here.
