I came August 2018 & was a walk in so my artist was an apprentice type dude ; I don't remember his name ! He was tall, Latino , long dark hair in a ponytail ; he told me he was related to the shop owner ; I've known about this place for years ! Anyone that cares about quality professional tattoo work knows about this shop - especially if you're from the SGV. My tattoo was black script writing on my upper back thighs & after my artist took forever to draw it , he received suggestions / advice / approval from the other artists ; when it came time to place the stencil (under my butt cheeks) the senior artists supervised & this made me feel super super comfortable ; not once did I feel uncomfortable at all ! & I got tattooed laying on my stomach w/ my dress rolled up & my panties Exposed ! & the space is open so every customer getting tattooed can see other customers ; shop is extremely clean & I would love to return ; my fee wasnot the most inexpensive but definitely worth every penny !

Very disappointed with the result of my lettering tattoo done here. As pictured I have hypertrophic scarring from the tattoo due to the artist, Steve Lopez, being heavy handed with the tattoo gun. The ink is really dark and contrasts my sleeve. I put in a $500 deposit with the shop with Frank a year prior that they wouldn't refund so I went to Steve to use the money only to leave me with a Wonky tattoo that I'm now going through laser tattoo removal to remove. Also my ex girlfriend accidentally slightly moved and he messed up the line work in the "g" in grateful. She went first so I should've known not to get tattooed by him.

I started coming to this studio because of Frank's work and for him to to become my Tattoo artist. First off the shop, wow!!! All the artist are super friendly and welcoming. Manager Ruben and Bud are awesome as well. Super helpful and make you feel comfortable, any questions related they assist you with answers, respect and a positive attitude. While your getting tatted it's a fun vibe, everyone is 100% professional and very clean. (Specially with the COVID situation) since October 2020 I've had 3 sessions with Frank, I can't put the words together of how perfect he makes the positioning of your tattoo, he gives you advise on what your choosing, your options and of course he executes a masterpiece. I could not be happier with my work, thank you Frankie!!!

Finish project it was done it is beyond words I was beyond in love with it Thanks Frank

What to give a big thanks to frank for my first tattoo His work is beyond words and his eye to detail is perfect I went in first to shop not really knowing what lion was right for me and he knew exactly what would look great on my body type I'm very very pleased with the out come and I was blown away with it worth every dollar This is the best shop in la town and I will be back to do my other arm

Piece Brian did, I wanted a "Time flies" piece! Came out proper!

If you got the patience (schedule in far advance), cash flow, and want great work, this is your spot!!! Not a place for cheap tribals and drunk tattoo regrets. This is a spot to get yer dream pieces done with much quality and skills! Brian did my piece and is amazing at what he does! Dont sleep on the other artist either though! All of them have talent and great skills!

I was tattooed by Steve Lopez. He did an amazing job. Made it work where I wanted the piece. Had a great conversation. Side note Steve is an amazing artist with his own style. Highly recommend checking out his personal art. Dude is a real artist. Not just a tattooer. My piece looks great and I have no pain less than 12 hours later. Shop has a good vibe and they are very talented.

All artists are amazing. Got tatted by Brian and couldn't be happier with the result, and to top it off he was a real nice guy. Knew my name before he even met me and was a real nice dude. Ignore bad reviews, there stupid. Price is expensive but you get what you pay for, and when it's left with you for the rest of your life, your stupid to not pay good money. Definately the place to go for any portraits of black and gray work!

Thank you to Steve Lopez for the portrait of my grandmother she loves it and so do i. Go to him you won't regret it. All the other bs reviews smh

I am really disappointed with my tattoo, done by Steve Lopez. I went in to have a small, vintage teapot done on my inner arm. I brought a source image that was not shaded. He popped it into photoshop and showed me a shaded version that looked pretty nice. Unfortunately, he was unable to mimic that image on my arm. The teapot is supposed to be of metallic material and therefore should have a lot of contrast to indicate shiny parts. As you see in the image, it is extremely over shaded. The details and line work are lost due to the muddied nature of overshadowing. His shading work is also really off; the tattoo doesn't look metallic at all! The flowers are all asymmetrical and wonky and the scalloped sections are uneven and really poorly shaded. There is not enough contrast in this tattoo. Midway through tattooing, he revealed to me that he was new at the trade. I was completely worried. As we moved forward I noticed there was a lot of shading and that everything was very dark. I expressed my concerns several times and on each occasion, he told me it would turn out beautifully and that all the small details and line work would "pop" after healing. He also boasted about how he was able to pick up tattooing quickly and that he had a good artistic sense. He talked up his time in Oregon painting murals and studying fine arts. Well, He might be an impressive painter but as a tattoo artist, he was extremely disappointing. Now, because the image is overshaded, there is no room for improvement. I've contact several other artists and no one can do anything about it bc it is too dark and overshaded. I'm only giving two stars because my first time here was positive and I was happy with that tattoo; however, this second one was poorly done. Steve really missed the opportunity to make my tattoo beautiful. I will not go here again to be assigned to a novice artist and walk away with a subpar tattoo.

I'm…read morehappy to report the appointment went smoothly and apparently everything is healing really well, which of course allowed for the downsizing to happen. Kat did the downsizing procedure this time and she was just as cool to work with as the first time I saw her. Kat's great because she makes you feel so comfortable and she really takes her time to explain what she's doing every step of the way. Switching out the helix post was nice and easy, the flat was a little more tender and a tiny bit painful (it got bumped a few more times during healing so far compared to the helix due to its location), but it calmed down after about 20 minutes, so it was not a big deal at all. Kat also told me despite the bumps/snags the flat experienced, the piercing was still lying perpendicular the way it was initially pierced, which is good news. Downsizing costs $15 per post and $10 for the service + tax. You get to keep your old posts too. Best of all, just like last time, they sterilize everything. It's now been a couple of days since downsizing and everything feels and looks great! Looking forward to these piercings healing up nicely, I can't wait! I still highly recommend JuL Head Piercing, they're great!

Apparently no navel or nipple piercing here per their website. Jul is a more luxury shop due to the many unique designs and offerings. A lot of offerings from BVLA. That being said-- you get what you pay for. The items are mostly some sort of 14k gold or higher. I'm not sure if they have stainless steel as an option. That being said, they have gorgeous pieces that you probably won't find elsewhere. I went to a piercing shop on Melrose on the West side and their offerings can't even compare to the pieces at Jul. So if you're willing to spend 100-700 bucks for some fine jewelry this is definitely the place. I saw a gold Chinese dragon. Definitely would look cute as a flat. Again-- pieces you can't find elsewhere. I had a thread less piece that got stuck. I wanted to switch to a non-thread less piercing for my flat. They were able to get it off easily and sized me for a new earring easily. Parking in the garage on the street next to Starbucks is the easiest spot I'd recommend.

I wanted a tiger paired with specific florals (forget-me-nots, honeysuckle, and narcissus paperwhites) all kept above the elbow. Angie brought my vision to life more beautifully than I could have imagined. The process at Baron Art was seamless. After submitting a consultation form, I heard back within 1-2 days and coordinated everything with Cat (Angie's assistant) via email. Cat was wonderful, detailed, and quick to reply. On the day of my appointment, I received digital aftercare instructions after I checked in. Before starting, Angie was incredibly patient. She adjusted the tiger's scale on her iPad to match my arm and printed several stencils to ensure the size and placement was just right. She then freehanded the florals, precisely incorporating the negative space I requested to keep the design from feeling too heavy. Angie is incredibly talented and has a light touch. Even the pain in the inner bicep area was manageable. She made sure I was comfortable throughout the 4 hour session, and the result was perfect. This piece means so much to me and is very close to my heart, as it's a memorial for my mom who passed away recently. The forget-me-nots were her favorite flowers, and the narcissus paperwhites and honeysuckle are our birth flowers. The tiger was the first stuffed animal that my parents bought for me when we first immigrated to the US. It was my "guardian" throughout my childhood. Angie, thank you very much for your kindness and for creating such a meaningful, beautiful piece. This was the first of two sessions, and I already love it so much--I can't wait to see how it turns out! Some notes: - Snacks: I brought along Gatorade and was sipping on it before and during my session. I ate some candy and had a protein bar during the breaks too. It helped so much to keep my blood sugar up. - Vibe: So relaxing! The studio was spacious, and they were playing a throwback playlist from like the 2010s lol. I was vibing out and didn't even use the earbuds I brought! Everyone was so friendly too! Throughout the session, I noticed a couple artists stopped by to admire Angie's work as she was doing the tiger :) - Parking: parking in this location wasn't actually too bad. There's a structure about a 5 min walk away from the studio down the street. Just turn right into the little street where the Arrow Lodge Brewing is at. Go in a little bit, and it's on the left hand side. If you reach S Santa Fe Ave, you've gone too far!
