I was a walk in, and there was one other person having work done when I dropped in. The shop is clean and well organized; there is heavy metal playing over the speakers and the walls are packed full of art... presumably from the artists, but nonetheless is pretty cool. I was greeted and helped by Styx who ended up being my piercer. She gave me a rundown of pricing and my jewelry options ($50 for what I chose plus the $50 piercing fee), and spent a few minutes in the back getting the space ready. Once she called me back, the whole process was only a few minutes, but she explained every step she was taking as she was taking it, and had a relaxed tone the whole time. She was very sweet and gentle, and it was very apparent that she took sterility seriously. The last piercing I had was crudely done in a bathroom by a friend right after high school, so this was certainly a much better (and safer) experience for me. I'm in the market for more tattoos but haven't decided on a piece quite yet, though Stay Local may end up being where I book an appointment next!

When I decided it was time to just do it, I felt like finding the right artist who could take this idea on was going to be difficult. I mass emailed a ton of tattoo parlors with my idea and only got one artist who was excited to take on the idea: Trina. She not only wanted to do it, but was legitimately excited to. What resulted was an amazing work and something I'm so genuinely in love with. As we went along, I kept wanting to add, add, and add! The final result is incredible. I'm so happy. Definitely will be getting another one from Trina as soon as the right idea pops in my head again.

I reached out to Maira and she was amazing...gave me options to pick another artist. I chose Dany and was really impressed by how talented and dedicated he is to his art. Arrived at 11:30 am and left at 10:30 pm... Dany worked his butt off and he put his heart and soul into my piece. It came out AMAZINGLY. I cannot thank and recommend enough Ikonik Tattoo for their love and patience. All of the people that work there are phenomenally talented artists. Initially, I was concerned that my tattoo didn't look exactly like my friends', and I asked Danny if he could take a look and possibly touch it up. Once the aftercare tape was removed, I could clearly see how great it actually looked. Danny took the time to walk me through everything, explained that he could slightly thicken the wing if I wanted, but was honest about his hesitation--he didn't want to risk affecting the healing or compromising the quality of the tattoo. He even consulted another tattoo artist, who agreed the tattoo was flawless. I truly appreciated Danny's honesty, professionalism, and willingness to put quality over simply making a change because it was requested. Although he was open to doing what I asked, I valued his expert opinion and trusted his judgment, especially since the tattoo was still so new. Danny does exceptional work and is incredibly skilled in fine-line tattooing. I'm very grateful for the time he took with me and for his integrity as an artist. I hate to say it, but the majority of tattoo artists I've come across have huge egos and expect respect and recognition. I got to talking to one woman at a different shop about it and she flat out told me tattoo artists are basically "rockstars and can do whatever they want". Nonetheless, I had a sleeve done on my left upper arm and Freddie did a fantastic job bringing my ideas into one cohesive image. He was extremely considerate and asked me to let him know when I wanted to take a break. Like I said it was a big piece that had to be split into two days, but Freddie had no problem with me taking breaks for as long as I needed. The piece came out beautiful and I haven't been to a different shop or artist ever since. I am being genuine when I say that the owner and all of the staff at Fallen Owl are very down to earth and willing to work with their clients to make sure you end up with a piece of art that you will love the rest of your life. The staff is great at taking your idea and giving feedback on what will look best while also respectfully letting you know if something won't look good or isn't a good idea. Freddie now has his own shop, so that would probably be the first place I'd go to get more work done, but if I had to choose a different shop it would definitely be Fallen Owl.
