I had to buy a new printer. I could not install it so I called Russell Trong of Personal Computer…read moreServices to install it for me...I had used him in the past for computer service and although his fees were exorbitant, ($90.00/hour labor only) he had, in the past, rendered service which was satisfactory. He came to address the issue at hand of the printer not connecting by bluetooth to my computer. A few other minor problems were addressed but nothing major. The main issue was the printer. Russ told me that it was very difficult to connect my new HP Desk Jet 4252e because Hewlett Packard tries to coerce the consumer to sign up for a membership to purchase automatically their own brand of ink. They do this, Russ said, by installing factory settings in each new printer that recognizes automatically if you install off-brand ink and thus causes the printer to become dysfunctional. Russ told me that he changed all these factory-installed "booby traps" and put in his own type of "over-rides" so that the printer would work properly. No sooner had he walked out the door $180.00 later than the printer did not print! I called him again and he could not reschedule me for yet another week to fix the problem correctly. He came and spent another hour and got the printer to work perfectly. But to my amazement, he did not extend any guarantee work, but charged me another $90.00 (with a "gracious" good will discount of $15.00!!!) He did say the printer may be defective and that he could not be held responsible for that. I wondered how it could be defective if he got it to work perfectly in his presence but it quit working the moment he was out the door. I could not help but think that he used that "defective printer" excuse as a type of cover-up to justiIfy his repeated fees. After this second visit, I will repeat that the printer quit working the moment he left. I sent him a message tonight to that effect and he refused to take responsibility, Since he had told me that HP printers had these factory-installed "booby traps"( which he assured me he circumvented) I took him at his word and informed him that I would purchase the printer he recommended but under the circumstances asked him to install it since he could not install the HP printer which now had cost me a total of $255.00 to him for installation (which he did not do). Russ told me at this point that he would NOT extend the courtesy to compensate me for his failure to install the HP printer. He said that installing the new printer would cost me ANOTHER $90.00. Needless to say I have lost all confidence and respect for Russell Trong of Personal Computer Services of Sugarmill Woods. His priority is obviously far from being this customer but rather the money he may be able to extort from them. I will NEVER use his services again!! cc: Hewlett Packard
