Co-located in a shared…read moreoffice/incubator space in the ever-renovating mills building on Broad Street, aerial yoga is not for everyone or the faint of heart. BUT if you brave it out, it's an experience like no other. Forget what you know about traditional yoga, although having the form and respect for your movement will serve you well. Silk "hammocks" suspended from the ceiling are your toys of the day. Straight out of 50 Shades of Grey or 50 Shades of crazy... it's an experience. I'm older, heavier and crotchetier than most, and was wise enough to experiment with a 30 min one-on-one, led by a nimble, ethereal and gazelle-like instructor - Kora. She takes a lot of the "fear factor" out of the training, and allows for your comfort level. You sit on this hammock and perform different feats against nature, like hanging upside down like a bat. Not bad for my first time, other than my 3 belly jelly rolls had a party hanging out in opposite direction of where they normally are... CHALLENGING! It will help you build upper body strength, core and balance. In a very calming environment. If you are in to trying new things, give it a whirl (LITERALLY!). At a minimum, you can tick that one off the list!

I signed up for another live stream class but ended up canceling as I didn't feel well. Well I received an email tonight saying they were charging me an additional $10!!!!!! for canceling the live stream class. OK, I get IN PERSON, they would charge a cancelation fee because it takes away a slot from another person, but their live steam slots are unlimited!!! I should have just kept myself registered or logged in. This is unbelievable, I have never heard of anything like this and I did NOT consent to my card to be charged and I will be disputing it with my credit card company and NOT returning for any more classes. Additionally, upon further research it looks like they charge you a "late cancel" fee for in-person classes after your second offense, so I still for the life of me cannot believe they fraudulently charged my card for a missed virtual class with unlimited slots. I'm livid. Buyer beware.

I LOVE Common Ground Yoga!…read more I have been coming to Common Ground for years and this studio is my happy place. And I feel like it's one of the few non-heated yoga places in the area, which is important to me! I came as part of an unlimited trial with the intention of trying a few place's before settling on one, but never left. The instructors and the owner are welcoming and supportive. They are great with new students and old ones. Every one of the teachers encourage you to do what right for your bodies and not focus on what others are doing. The community is a group of people across all ages and abilities. Pre-pandemic, it was like my second home. During the pandemic it kept me sane as their virtual classes kept me connected with a wonderful community. Post pandemic remains amazing. I HIGHLY recommend this studio.

However, our experience with the Kids Club has been extremely disappointing. About a year and a half ago, my son had an incident where a staff member teased him. He reacted in a playful but inappropriate way, and as a result, he was suspended for a week. At the time, he was also dealing with a serious medical condition that was affecting him neurologically, which we later came to understand may have influenced his behavior. Out of caution, he did not return to Kids Club after that incident. Now that he is doing much better, and I have returned to full-time work, I recently attempted to bring him back--only to be told that he is permanently banned. The reason given was a Facebook comment I had made at the time describing our experience. I made multiple attempts to have a calm, reasonable conversation with staff to revisit the situation, especially given the time that has passed and my son's improved health. Unfortunately, there was no willingness to reconsider. This puts us in a very difficult position. As a working parent, I rely on the Kids Club in order to use the gym. Without access to childcare, we are now faced with canceling a membership we've maintained for years--not because we want to, but because we no longer have a way to utilize the facility. What's most concerning is the lack of empathy and accountability in how this situation has been handled. I sincerely hope the club takes a closer look at how interactions with children are managed, and how situations like this are resolved, so that other families don't have a similar experience.

I never have to wait for a machine that I want to use because they have so many to offer. (i work out in the morning usually around 9am-11 am ish.) The desk people ALWAYS great my on my way in with a smile. The cleaning lady is always on the move, keeping up with any messes left behind by members. I have tried a few classes that they offer and have found that overall the Body Pump class is my favorite because of the over all body work out. I can't say enough about the instructors either. Katie K & Taryn are definitely 5 star instructors. None of the classes are any extra charge, it is all included in the membership. But If you want a personal trainer, its extra. (although 1 session is free when signing up) I would recommend this gym to anyone looking for not just a gym but an overall athletic club experience. I will be taking my kids swimming here this summer in the large pool in the back. (with a water slide!)

Someone's "garage" turned into the best "torture chamber" ever. The more I experience FA, the more…read moreI realize it was the perfect dose of "I was missing something". Sure, you can go ape crazy with bikini contests and odes to body building. Or you can opt to get a real workout with really good people, great music, encouraging community and get something out of it in 45 minutes. There are other options on their menu, but the boot camps, ever-changing, reformatting and mixing it up, keep your body guessing. (and trust me, I'm not a fan of the term "boot camp" but for lack of a better term, I'll suck it up because the sweat is REAL). As with everything in life, you get out of it what you will put into it. Even if you DIDNT change your lifestyle, and did a handful of these puppies a month, you will see results. Strength? Muscle tone? Better balance? It sneaks up on you. If you add a nutrition regimen, of course transformation is possible. But I didn't come for transformation, I came because I needed to focus on some muscle building and the gym world has been like barfing pellets. The "gym culture" gets on my nerves after a while. Sure, will you find stereotypical "meatheads" at FA? Maybe. But when we all walk in and the instructor gets us going, we are all too focused to worry about baloney and work gets real. The most amazing thing about the structure are the instructors. Many of them are body builder/bikini champions! And yet they are not into the "look at mah booty babe" at all (like some dance instructors out there). NOPE. They are there to make sure your form is good, you are focused, encourage and guide you. Need to modify? Oh they will do that without shaming, au contraire! They will make modifications with attentive and super professional bedside manners. Everyone walks in happy! And walks out dead. Beat. Sweaty and with a feeling of accomplishment. High fives all around. Staff is happy. It's the happy torture chamber. I am really enjoying this, and I was so on the fence. Glad I found them! Other FA's in the area: Shrewsbury, Boylston, Grafton... and at all hours and days of the week. They got you covered!
