Machinery exhibit from the old brick making factory
Clement R.

Came here for Valentines Day to be a bit unconventional. Just so happened Imaginarium is hosting a short/small escape room "Ice and Fire" here. We signed up for it. Anyhow, we got here in the afternoon to check out what has become of this place. This complex is amazing as it was repurposed for use by community from an old derelict factory. There are a lot of sustainability facilities built into the building. I was marveled with all the features they have. We will come back to check things out as the weather warms up.

I came here for a conference and found the space very charming. The space had its own world! It is located mid-town and I found that the space is not as accessible. The venue does provide a shuttle from the location to the nearby train station though. I love how the space is 'nature' inspired, accessible, and diverse. They have both accessible and transgendered washrooms (which makes it quite innovative compared to conventional event spaces!)

Piggy back off my review if Moore Park Ravine, while Evergeen Brick Works' Farmers Market remains closed for now, it looks like they may he hearing up to reopen however in the meantime it was great to see families and folks enjoying the beautiful day Saturday (some shrugging at social distancing). Regardless, weve never been down here before, and really appreciate the transformation if the old Brickworks and adjacent quarry into a spectacular park area, gallery and garden. I am not exaggerating when I say that this entire area is an oasis in the middle of the city.-Zuk

Since we were in the 'hood, my husband and I checked out the Evergreen Brick Works. A site that has known constant transformation -- first by two million years of glacial action, later by 100 years of brick making -- is being transformed yet again. This time, Evergreen is turning the buildings of this abandoned industrial site into a lively and engaging community environmental centre that will help create a greener future. We were too late for the farmers' market (it closes at 1pm) and we walked around the park. A clay and shale quarry for one hundred years, this 16.5-hectare (40-acre) area has been transformed into a thriving green space managed by Toronto Parks, Forestry and Recreation. Free and open to everyone, Weston Family Quarry Garden is the back garden to the revitalized industrial pad that is now Evergreen Brick Works. Spend an afternoon walking along the boardwalks and you're likely to spot a turtle sunning on a log and fish swimming in the ponds. Look for a great blue heron in the reeds, a family of ducks paddling along and songbirds too. Follow the meandering paths up the North Slope and you'll be rewarded with an unmatched view of the Toronto skyline. All this in heart of the city. A great place to spend a couple hours! It was fun to wander around the trails. The view of Toronto at the top of the hill was worth climbing up there for. It was cool to watch the turtles, fish and blue heron.

The Evergreen Brick Works is totally growing on me. On Saturday mornings (9am-1pm) they have a Farmers Market with vary nice vendors. Mind you, I find that prices can be quite high, but every now and then it's nice to splurge on some nice local ingredients. After all, what's better than freshly picked veggies, and goat cheese made locally? Truth be told, the place is best suited for hippies and other eco friendly folk. But I guess there's a bit of a hippie in all of us.

"fancy garden!" Absolutely a magical forest this place! I love the little shop here. Love the lake. Love the trails. Love the green!! I came here for a wedding so the venue was perfect. It was an indoor/outdoor ceremony and the reception was directly right beside and it was such a great space. Please check out the photos! It is beautiful.

If you've seen one tourist trap market then you've seen them all. A small cup of lemonade that is done in two slurps will cost you $5 and a meal (snack) will cost $12 or more and leave you very hungry. The food is nice but seriously just go find some restaurants or food joints around town for your money's worth. Now I am off to find second lunch.

An oasis in the middle of an urban jungle. While the hearts of many jaded Torontonians may not be thawed by the warmth and greenery present in this space, Evergreen is a beautiful site that offers a lot of interesting activities, markets and workshops, despite being difficult to get to. It's surrounded by greenery in every direction and dealing with a number of climate-related problems that are apparently being addressed by the staff as of this writing. I came here for The Walrus magazine's 15th anniversary party, and was initially struck by how beautiful the site is. I ended up walking from the Castle Frank TTC station over to the site (protip: don't do this) and was pleasantly surprised by how much of the original architecture was still present. Make no mistake - this is a historic site through and through, with all the drawbacks that entails. While the inside has been modernized (there's a nice atrium area for parties, modern washroom facilities and the like), the site's roots as a historic property that had no insulation come back to bite it repeatedly. I attended this event on a blazing-hot summer day and found myself nearly freezing inside - it's a cavernous interior that doesn't seem to trap heat and is predisposed to lower temperatures. Not so bad in hotter weather, but there's no way you could pay me to come in here during winter. To their credit, the management seems to have realized this and plan to augment the interior with some upgrades, if the CEO's speech during the party was any indication. The event itself (held as part of a two-day conference with various talks centered around subjects covered by the magazine) had a number of luminaries, including famed author Margaret Atwood, talking about their plans for the future. While this wasn't really my crowd (you try sitting amid 300 people as they clap mindlessly for every other sentence like a bunch of Lemmings), there were some good ideas pushed forward, including the need to help Aboriginal children and teens who live on reserves, which collectively face some of the highest poverty and suicide rates in the country. Interestingly, this party also had a number of food items served, including sliders, meatballs and Asian-inspired appetizers, but I'm unsure if it was from an in-house staff or if it was catered, so I didn't factor it into my review. I do know that the cake they served (which was made out of cupcakes with a heavy frosting layer made to resemble a full cake) was way too sweet for me. I also found the washrooms (supposedly inspired by designs in countries like Iceland) to be initially confusing, with the faucet, dryer and soap dispensers all in the same sink. While parking is limited in the space, there are shuttles that go to and from Broadview Station. I didn't have the chance to explore some of the other buildings, but I'm aware that there is a farmers' market that's worth checking out. In the end, Evergreen is a fantastic site with a few small issues that I have no doubt will be worked out in the coming months. A fantastic place to visit for events or just to admire the greenery. Well worth a look.

My new favourite place!! Evergreen Brick Works is a great place to advertise "going green" in the community. From bicycles, to meeting farmers for fresh produce, farmer's markets, organic products, growing your own garden, to reusing old buildings and transforming them to lively places! It's a great place for adults and kids (they have a kids garden where many passionate individuals teach children how to make their own bird feeder, and plant seeds. There is a lovely Evergreen Bakery with delicious baked treats. Look out for the events that happen year round too! I think I stopped by on a great day, because there was a seed market of some sort occurring. The volunteers are extremely nice and passionate about the vision of Evergreen and it's a great place to take pictures and meet people who are also passionate about the environment! The Crate Market is where many food vendors open their organic food to the public. Shout out to the business owner OG Chimneys for bringing the delicious Hungarian Treat to Evergreen! I love this area because there are lovely strung lights, beautiful strung lanterns, campfires when it's cold, a lovely DJ with comfy wooden chairs and many families come here with their children too! Parking is $1.50 for half an hour (I don't remember the maximum fee). Definitely will visit again! I'm a huge fan of "going green"!!!!

Don't let the name fool you, this is an IPA
Dylan D.

Showed up on a Sunday afternoon for some craft beer, good eats, and a hike on the trails...but when my hubs ordered a Weiss from the chalkboard, expecting to drink a Weiss, he was horrified and surprised to sip an IPA from the can labeled Miami Weiss. The worst part was the back of the can explains this is in no way a Weiss, and it's just a marketing gimmick to sell more beers. So basically they're lying to their customers.

They're the worst of them all. Overpriced. There's no signage that says no parking or stopping. They send you a ticket in the mail.

Canada Auto Parks

(1 review)

Downtown Core, Discovery District

This Canada Auto Parks parking lot is located on the northwest corner for Bay and Edward Streets…read more To the south of it is the defunct bus terminal. This lot is also diagonally across from Atrium on Bay. I can only imagine that this parking lot was buzzing when the bus terminal was active. I wouldn't know, as I used to take the TTC to get to this bus terminal, mainly to greet friends visiting the city. We were young and broke back then. Last Wednesday night, I parked in this lot to spend a few hours at Atrium on Bay. I parked in a spot and headed to the payment area. There was a parking attendant talking to someone. It was not about parking. There was also a payment machine, so I used that instead of interrupting their conversation. With the payment machine, you enter your licence plate number first. You then select how much time you need to park in the lot. I got the $15 flat rate on evenings between 6 pm and 6 am. That's pretty good for being downtown, and within walking distance from both CF Eaton Centre and Atrium on Bay. I paid with a credit card. The machine also takes coins, but I'm not sure if it's all coin denominations or specific ones. I shopped. I had dinner. I browsed. I had dessert. I then returned to my car. It was safe and sound. I actually ate a donut in my parked car before I left. I had to maximize my flat rate payment after all! I also wanted to devour my donut before driving away. I'm glad that I found a new parking lot. It's actually not a bad place to park if you're going to Massey Hall for a show or being a tourist around the downtown core. (293)
