A week ago, I drove over to Poke Guys and was looking for a place to park. Not a single spot was available on Elizabeth Street. The last time I was in this neighbourhood, I didn't have a car and was free of figuring out how to park a car without getting a ticket.
Luckily, I noticed this Green P parking lot and decided to give it a go. It's funny that I didn't even know there was an underground parking lot. It's conveniently under Nathan Phillips Square. I have always taken public transportation to visit NPS. So, that's what the stairs do... haha!
Parking prices are surprisingly cheaper during the workday than the parking lot by my old workplace when I worked downtown. It's $3.50 for 30 minutes. The daily maximum rate is $20 between 7 am and 6 pm. If you do the night maximum, it's $6. On weekends, the maximum is $8.
I like the fact that you can leave your ticket in your car or take it with you. You don't need to frantically look for a payment machine before you leave the parking lot. You drive out, pay at the machine by the gate, and leave. Credit and debit cards are accepted, which I like.
I parked on the Trout level. I was basically three flights of stairs below street level. I wish that I didn't have to open the doors to get in and out of the parking lot. I had hand sanitizer with me, but it would have been better if these doors were propped or automatically open. Then again, I understand that it helps to have them closed in case there's a fire.
I spent just under 1.5 hours downtown. When it was time to pay, I used my credit card to pay $10.50. The transaction was smooth and I was good to go.
I didn't see an elevator for those who can't go up and down stairs easily. Perhaps I missed it and hope that it exists.
I do like this parking lot. There was plenty of parking when I was there before 2 pm. As a pedestrian, you can't walk down or up the ramps.
