All with Fair-trade/organic, quality, lab tested ingredients. The baristas are knowledgeable & friendly. When mine began pouring up my tea (luckily I'm a self proclaimed herbalist who was able to select the tea best suited for my mood). I chose a decaf that included strawberry & ginger plus a few other loose leaves. It was needed as I noticed the temperature outside declining from my time of entry to exiting. Today was the grand opening & it's still going on. They had giveaways, food, samples & raffles. I felt as though I could sense the aura of true friendships and like-minded individuals expressing happiness for their comrade through good energy. They also serve a limited food menu and--impressively--things like sahlab and zhourat shamia tea which you rarely see even in Middle Eastern restaurants in the US. And Turkish coffee which they do make correctly. I don't smoke but felt very welcome. It's mostly local guys sitting around, smoking, playing cards, drinking coffee and gossiping. It seems to have filled the void for this purpose left when the Palms Coffee House shut down. The ambience is about what you'd expect: welcoming, informal, not fancy but more thought into the decoration certainly than at Palms. And they're open late! This is also Levantine tradition--it's a coffeehouse not a coffeeshop. It doesn't close at 3pm like ones in the States do but actually business really picks up around 11pm. That's just how it's done.

This is more than just a hookah lounge--it's a true Palestinian café and community space. The hookah is top-notch; I got the double apple and it was smooth the whole time, no harshness or burn-out. Their Turkish coffee is excellent too--strong, flavorful, and perfectly brewed. In the evening, they fire up the charcoal grill and serve fresh, simple food. The menu isn't huge, but it doesn't need to be. It's all about quality. I had the grilled chicken wings with hand-cut fries--real potatoes, not frozen--and everything was fresh and delicious. You can taste the difference. At night, the place comes alive. It gets packed with people playing cards, smoking hookah, drinking tea or coffee, and socializing. It's a wholesome, laid-back spot with a real sense of community, right in the heart of Temple Terrace. And yes--they've got Al Jazeera Arabic on the TV and a couple of cute kittens roaming around. What more do you want? If you're in Tampa and want to support Palestine while enjoying great food and good company, this is the spot. 1948 Cafe has become my go-to every time I'm in town.

Esrom caught wind of the situation and immediately went out of his way, came outside, and told us he would personally store my scooter so my girlfriend and I could come in and enjoy drinks. That level of care is rare. He didn't have to do that -- but he chose to. On top of that, once we were seated, he brought us games to play and made sure we were having a great time. It's extremely uncommon to see someone who genuinely cares about their job and the customer experience to this extent. Esrom is a huge asset to this establishment, and that kind of hospitality doesn't go unnoticed or forgotten. Because of him, we'll absolutely be back.

The good is obvious, it's a gorgeous building and well decorated interior. The truly disappointing: 1. The humidor is gorgeous and massive but wasted space gives way to a above average inventory. For a place that requires you to purchase only their cigars they should have Davidoff, Bandelero, Byron, Attabey, El Septimo and other high end brands. 2. The best room in the building doesn't allow smoking!! The actual coffee lounge is gorgeous but you won't enjoy it after you buy a cigar. That is truly silly. This strategy is a mistake and I am sure this policy will change. 3. No drip coffee!!!! It's on the menu but they don't offer it yet. I was offered cold coffee... anyone wanting hot coffee doesn't want a cold one. 4. Breakfast menu was crossed out, no food for it. I was told I could get a lunch burrito at 8am. I was told there isn't a big difference except no eggs and bacon. The attempts to counter the blatant issues were foolish if not condescending. 5. The Library is where the smokers are, horrible ventilation and at the time I was there 8 regulars loudly talking about how Trump is amazing and anyone that disagrees must be a liberal. Didn't feel like the cigar community vibe we all enjoy. I had a very average cappuccino and Plascencia Alma Fuerta. When I told my Wife (who was driving to meet me) about this place she changed her mind and went Ybor, I'm on the way to meet her. This place is a huge swing and a miss
