Safety Harbor is a safe, fun and small town centrally located in the Tampa Bay metropolis. Right on…read morethe water, it is close to Tampa, Clearwater and St Petersburg. But, it also has its share of local interest spots. These include Philippe Park, named after Odet Philippe, the first western settler who also introduced citrus to the area! It also has a small but informative local museum. Plus, there are many local cafes, coffee shops, a biscotti shop and restaurants none of which are chains! Finally, don't miss the amazing arts scene including the wacky bowling ball house! On the weekends, there is a farmers market plus often festivals, street shows and events and more! Settled since 1823, the town was formally created in 1927. The unique name originates from a 1700's legend that if you could make it to the shallow water in Safety Harbor (part of Tampa Bay), you would be safe from common marauding pirates! We started at Lucky Lobster and experienced the best Lobster and Shrimp Pizza and also Lobster Bisque. Never had that combination before but it was off the chart good! There were many great stops but our favorite was Harley's Popcorn! So much so that we later ordered a tin of Popcorn to be delivered to family!! And the grand finale was the dessert and coffee at the Bon Appetit Restaurant! Fresh hot coffee and a choice of many desserts. We chose the Coconut Pie which was a the perfect ending to a delicious afternoon and husband chose the Key Lime Pie which he declared was the best ever! Thank you for a great tour. Alex was well informed and we liked how he incorporated some Dunedin history into the tour!!
