My wife and I love Indian food and when we travel, we enjoy trying different Indian eateries from the places we visit. Fortunately, it wasn't hard to find a couple Indian restaurants when we visited Whistler, BC. So on our first night there, we got take-out from Indian Masala Bistro. There was a large group of us, so we were able to order a variety of dishes - butter chicken, chicken curry, chicken masala, palak paneer, lamb korma, and a couple other dishes that I don't remember. We also got lots of garlic naan, of course. Unfortunately, their entrees DO NOT come with rice. So you need to order rice separately. (Minus one star for this.) When we ordered, we asked for medium heat level, but we barely noticed any heat (mild disappointment). Despite this, everything was very flavorful. Ordered a bunch of different dishes for a big group (beers, mango lassi, 6 different types of curries, rice, naan, etc.) Quality of food was good but wasn't incredible. For example, the pani puri mixture felt a bit dry, and the curry ordered spicy could've been more spicy. Aloo gobhi cauliflower also seemed masked with other things, there could've been more/bigger cauliflower presence in the dish. You're also charged for rice and naan. Presentation on mango lassi was pretty. Service was okay, friendly but nothing to write home about. For example, it was a big group so the dishes were just dropped off on one end and we had to move them ourselves instead of the server placing them at the correct locations. The food was very good and flavorful, and I'd probably write more, but I don't want to waste my time since I can't in good conscience give a rating any higher than 3 stars for a place that charges for rice, especially a place that charges that much for so little of an amount. It's like an Italian restaurant charging separating for the noodles, or a burger place charging for the bun. How embarrassing, try to remember that you're representing an entire culture, do better. read more

We went there with pretty high hopes. The restaurant itself is clean and quiet place. The service was okay, slightly slow. We ordered the snack platter in which only the fish was good, everything else was average. The malai kofta definitely did not contain kofta. Seemed like they just deep fried dahi bhalla's bhalla and added to a very mediocre curry. Extremely disappointed with that. The chicken curry was pretty good and a saving grace. And not sure why but the rice was 6 bucks which is pretty expensive compared to the rest of menu. read more

Located in Whistler Village upstairs you will find them. Not too busy Service was fine. There's a couple large parties. We sat in a booth. I got the eggplant vegan dish spicy, and it was very good. Exactly what I wanted. Got a side of tandoori because that's the only 'bread' that is considered vegan. It's not totally clear on the menu, but they actually have a lot of vegan friendly dishes! Pretty good food. It gets crowded but when we called they said just call in and we were fine. Huge restaurants that wraps around. Booths and tables. Has the butter chicken, okra, eggplant, and Rogan Josh. All pretty good. Enjoyed the okra the most. Eggplant was a little bit like mush but good flavors. Butter chicken was missing a little oomph and I like mine more reddish than light orange. All in all it was enjoyable and I'd go back. If you're getting not spicy for kids make sure you emphasize it because even some mild was still spicy for them. Rice/bread is not included in the dishes. We preferred the roti to the naan. Nice Indian place in Whistler village, with reasonable prices. It's on the third floor above BeaverTails on the village side of Hilton. I was feeling like more vegetables and fiber so decided on the veggie masala and garlic naan. It was pretty good. The masala consisted of cauliflower, potatoes, onions, peas, and some other veggies. The flavour was great. It went very well with the naan which was crispy and garlicy. Maybe it's because I like aloo gobi. Anyways it was a reasonable and healthy meal. Would come back. read more

Came here because my friend liked it last time they visited Whistler. I don't usually eat Indian food but I thought this place was good. We ordered medium spicy, I thought it was quite spicy for medium. Still tolerable for me but a little more than I prefer. I'd say it was a 7/10 maybe I'd prefer 6? Still very good. We ordered chicken biriani, chicken masala, eggplant bhartha, palak chicken, and lamb vindaloo. I think one of them was more spicy than the rest. Everything was very tender and very flavorful. The dishes are rather small and do not come with rice or naan so you'll have to order them separately. If you have a group of 4-6 I'd consider ordering a biriani dish because it's a flavorful rice dish and is a rather large amount. The plain rice and pulao rice are kinda bland in comparison. 1 dish per person should be enough. We also got 2 orders of garlic naan and pulao rice which had some pees and saffron rice. I coulda done without it because we had the biriani. Service was very helpful and courteous the place is located on the second floor. Of the few places I've eaten in Whistler village this place was one of the better places. read more

We were seated immediately as the restaurant was empty. We had booth near the kitchen so we could smell everything! It was lunch so we shared a couple dish. First was the potato pakora. I loved it! As you walk into Indian Masala Bistro you can smell the spices. The decor is quite basic but very clean. The Chicken Tikka Masala was very delicious and flavorful, the spices and spicy levels were perfect. The Butter Chicken was also a great hit, I do think however more chicken could have been added. I don't think it's shareable size meal, lots of sauce but not much chicken. Also for the price of just the meat entree I think rice could have been included. We came here because it was extremely close to our hotel and we wouldn't have to be out in the cold for very long. Plus, the reviews looked good. The service was prompt. I ordered the Chicken Palak and my husband ordered one of the Dals. We enjoyed our dishes. He got a chai with milk and I got one without milk. If you like very spicy chai, you'll like this tea. However, if you're like me and like it at a medium spice, the spices will be a little overwhelming for you. Based on the presentation of our dishes, I think the food here is meant to be family style. I'm pretty sure I've been here before last time I was in Whistler. Can't believe I forgot to write a review the first time. This place is a hidden gem. There's never any wait and the food is absolutely amazing for the price. They also have a full bar with an abundant amount of drink selections. I got the mangolada and it was so refreshing! My friend and I split the mixed snack appetizers and got a dinner set each. I had my usual butter chicken and it was delicious! The naan bread was so hot and fresh. They must have thought we were stupid because we ordered a chicken kadhai and got a chicken jalfrezi instead. Chicken kadhai is not made with onions and bell peppers. The food was cold with barely any pieces of chicken. Samosas were good but not served with any mint chutney. Rice and naan have to be ordered separate from main dish. Saturday night, a busy night at Whistler village, so decided to order in. This Indian restaurent was nearby. It was an easy phone call, ordered the food, and picked them up in 20 minutes. The restaurant itself was nice and clean, and not too busy. The food was tasty. The butter chicken has a tomato creamy sauce, with cubes chicken breast meat. These are the basic ingredients of happiness after a day battling unseasonable winds and rain on the Fairmont course, and this restaurant delivers--particularly in the friendly service department. I am astounded that this place has any stars. The only good thing was the Naan. When they say four pieces, they mean one piece cut into four. We asked for medium heat. There was no heat. We ordered prawn vindaloo and we literally got 5 medium rubbery and dry prawns. For nearly $20 for that dish alone I am wondering what I actually ordered. I was very impressed by Indian cuisine because most places that I have gone I have not liked. I usually compare the cooking to traditional home cooked meals. I had gone with a group of 6 people and we were seated within 5-minutes. We had gotten a booth table. We ordered naans, shahi panner, and chili panner (which we ordered another of). The food was served within 15-20minutes. The food was fulfilling and could serve 3-4 people per serving size. The whistler location this Indian restaurant was in was gorgeous. So we almost avoided this place because someone with a grudge told is it wasn't good, but I'm glad we went anyway. The meal we had here was fabulous! After a day out on the slopes, a warm meal is much appreciated, but this was more than just a warm meal, as it was delicious. The bread was warm and a toasted, rice was plentiful, and the sauces on our dishes were perfect. The little donut for dessert was perfect, warm and sweet, and small enough to not pass it up after eating everything else.
