I am definitely a lover of Indian food. I am from the Caribbean and was not exposed to Indian food…read moretill about 15 years ago. I am only sorry it took me this long to try it. I love it and I always end up choosing new at least one new thing even though I have my usuals. I live just about 15 minutes from this place and I was always confused thinking it was just a buffet, which I found out it is on the weekends but you can order a la carte other days. I was extremely surprised to come by on a Tuesday only 2 days before Christmas and find the place pack and tons of to go orders. Everyone inside seemed like family and greeted us with a big smile. The waiter was attentive enough and brought us a bottle of water for the table which I appreciate it. We first decided to order a beer I love and new in the brewery industry called Rupee. I absolutely love the subtle spice flavors while being a very light beer. Then I tried for the very first time a beer called Golden Monkey. I was warned by the waiter that this beer was very strong (big smile); and it was. But the nicest coolest thing about this beer is how it tasted, I was doing a little dance and humming as I tasted it over and over. I can smell the clove and sweet spiced notes on this beer. It was a bit heavier but also so crisp, and boy did it hit you. It hit you hard (smile). Of course we only had one of these so that we can save enough space for the food. We order garlic naan and of course they also brought us some treats to snack on and I love that. We ordered the MM Kabab Sampler which was very tasty and was delivered to our table sizzling. We also tried the Lamb Tokari for the first time, this coconut and cumin sauce did not disappoint. And as usual we got Chicken Tikka Masala as well. We love this sauce. I only have to complaint that I wished it was dark meat but the flavors were excellent and we had every bit of it including the sauce. We had so much food we took a lot home for lunch the next day. Prices were very reasonable and portions were great. I loved it so much and have been telling my friends about it all week. I will definitely order from here again or come in for sit down dinner.

A Taste of India in Mystic, CT was a place I genuinely wanted to love. My family and I are huge…read morefans of South Asian food, and if you've read any of my past reviews, you know we frequent Indian and Pakistani restaurants often. Because of that, our bar is admittedly set pretty high--which may have influenced how we felt about this visit. Overall, the experience was average. This is a family-owned restaurant, and there were definite bright spots. The chicken momos were outstanding and easily the highlight of the meal. They were flavorful, well-cooked, and something I'd actually come back for. Unfortunately, the rest of the dishes didn't quite meet the same standard. We ordered the Chilli Chicken with Vegetable Fried Rice, Chicken Vindaloo, and Chicken Biryani. While the portion sizes were generous--and we appreciated the complimentary garlic naan--the food itself was overly salty and lacked depth of flavor. On a positive note, they also included a free dessert: Gulab Jamun, which was very good and a nice touch to end the meal. Service-wise, the generosity with portions and extras was appreciated, but flavor is ultimately what matters most, and that's where the meal fell short for us. If you're in the Mystic area and craving Indian food, A Taste of India may be worth a stop, especially for the momos. That said, there are likely stronger options not too far away. Overall rating: 3.25 out of 5

The food was amazing. We had a hard time stopping myself from eating any more. I was doing my little happy hum. We had several naan bread; paneer tikki masala; Chicken Bhuma masala and gulag yamun. We definitely will come back or even order to go. This is a little gem. Only suggestion is for the owners to have some Indian music as background.

That aside, let me tell you why the five stars. I am vegetarian so I have visited many Indian food establishments. I happen to live in a town full of Indian restaurants. Mystic Royal has made the best Indian food I have ever had. We ordered takeout for all four vegetarian entrees, and wow, the spicy eggplant dish made quite the impression. Top notch. The spice level is customizable. All the flavors of each dish come out. What a mouth savoring meal!!

The owners are from Bangladesh, and they are quick to point out that this is not an East Indian restaurant but a fusion restaurant (I have never been clear on what a fusion restaurant is other than expanded menu). There were a number of dishes normally seen on menu from an Indian restaurant but no Nan bread. Instead they have paratha which if found I liked more The food was excellent. Previous cautions regarding wait time for food correct as I think every thing is freshly made rather than scooped up from last weeks offering. The ambience was modest (think small town diner rather than five star Michelin restaurant). I am more interested in quality of food. They do have a nice outdoor space. They caution regarding how hot you order food. My wife ordered it at 1/10 and was good. I have the Fireman's bowl and I think that is a 3 or 4 out of 10. I asked to have an order of Dal for take out at the heat that the chef usually eat it at. After signing a consent form and waiver (joking) she gave me an order of dal at 8/10. I tried it at this heat and yes, probably should have a glass of milk or some yogurt to cut the heat. I will try a 10/10 next time. All I all an excellent experience and one to be repeated.

It was sumptuous and delicious. For dinner, we had the garlic nan, which is always great, Vindaloo with shrimp, and Chettinad with Chicken. All amazing. The food is always freshly prepared, quiet, comfortable ambience, and excellent service. The owner/Cook, Nalini, pours her heart and soul into her grandmother's traditional recipes that have been passed down to her. A wonderful. Interesting person as well. Some history: I have eaten at probably 3 Indian restaurants in my life before discovering The Curry Queen. None of them caught my interest - I just didn't get it. But I like Thai curry, so we stumbled into the Curry Queen several years ago. OMG, the combination of spices is so interesting and tasty, the meat is lean, the menu is broad and varied, and vegetarian dishes are endless and delicious (I'm not vegetarian). It is a consistently wonderful experience. Shocking to find this in Old Saybrook. CT! The closest thing I've found to this level is an Indian restaurant in Northern Wales two years ago. If you're in CT, don't miss a chance to try The Curry Queen!
