The biggest draw to this place is the excellent canal side, below the street location. While looking for an Indian restaurant to celebrate a wonderful occasion in Utrecht, I came upon India Port. The menu is your typical Indian cuisine, and since we are vegetarians, seemed like a good call.
Unfortunately, the table reservations are completely futile. We had to wait close to half an hour for a table even though we had reservations. They confessed to mistaking someone else for me as my name sounded very Dutch(?). Anyway, the manager was gracious enough to make up for his mistake by offering a dessert on the house.
Food is good. It's nothing spectacular, at least for vegetarians, but is better than your regular variety Indian fare available everywhere else. I liked the naan.
If I could, I would revamp the ventilation inside. It was really stuffy, what with kitchen fumes inside the dining area, and the fact that the restaurant shares space with a Thai restaurant. It was a mixture of odors that will not leave your clothes easily.
If you're in historic Utrecht, this restaurant is a good try. read more
