Horrible customer service. Bald guy came in and stared at me and my kids for a good two minutes while we were watching the movie. Then he said no outside food. I had bought them some candy earlier and they were eating it. We also bought popcorn and bottled water at the theater. Spent over $85. He said throw it away in front of him or leave. We did both. There really should be a spot to choose zero stars. The owner is the male at the snack bar who is rude and condescending? My parents are in their 80s they go to the movies every Tuesday for Date night. Tonight after over 5 years was the first time they needed to know their seat number to order food, my mom not having it went to get my dad who had the ticket inside the movie theater. My dad then ordered the food told them what theater number and seat they were in, the food NEVER CAME. So my mom went out to ask and CHANCE THE OWNER so degrading, condescending and just out right nasty and rude to my mom. Then he decided to kick my parents out of the movies. After reading all these reviews it seems like CHANCE kicks people out often after they have paid for their tickets.. This is a form of theft, I don't care how much the tickets it's the point that he is doing this to many people. On top of kicking them out he issued an 80 year old couple a TRESPASSING CITATION. My first trip to a theatre since COVID. They are doing assigned seating which is no big deal and this was a Sunday with not many people wanting to see Cocaine Bear. Excellent seats and a good concession stand. I'm glad I made it back into the movies. I still wear a mask everywhere in public and it's the movies no one is looking anyway. All in all good solid experience. I would go again not on an opening night for fear there would be too many people for my liking. I'll definitely give this place a try again. read more

Best movie theater popcorn! Wonderful local cinema that my family has frequented for years

If you are a parent with young kids, apparently this is not the place for you. My husband, my 2 kids and I went to see Mufasa. As a mom I always bring drinks that my kids actually like (one was water) as well as extra bags for the popcorn for them. THEY'RE KIDS! We still bought the $10 popcorn, still bought the tickets. The guy literally walked right up to us and said 'no outside food, you need to leave' after just standing on the side staring at us for an hour and half way through the movie. Really?! I would have gladly thrown out their drinks. We had the only kids in the theatre... they cried all the way out and back home. I hope he sleeps well tonight. read more

Worst experience we have ever had at a theater. We were verbally berated by management for bringing snacks that my medically sick child could eat, and after asking us one time we were then kicked to the curb. My 3 kids left sobbing and when I took the high road and offered my sincere apologies management had no grace for us. Sure I got upset; who wouldn't? It's a kids movie and we weren't harming anyone. The theater was half empty, the movie wish is almost out of the theaters, and they kicked us out for harming no one. We left with my kids in tears and their day ruined. I totally understand rules and how to handle these situations but there is also an opportunity for kindness and customer service that was never shown. The employee that first asked us to get rid of the snacks was extremely rude and forceful in his tone. Even when told our child is sick and cannot eat their food they had no care for us. When does a business decide that holding the line on something so minor become the hill to die on, ruining an entire experience and holiday for children? I'm sure they will make me out to be a terrible person because terrible people take their kids to see wish for a second time dressed in the costume on New Year's Day. This place is alright the 1 good thing about this theater is how loud it is but that's a personal opinion. This movie theater is more expensive than the amc corvallis and it not nearly as good. When the trailers were starting they still had the lights on and cleaning .A small drink is $5 and they put a lot of ice in the cup and their popcorn is also the worst popcorn I have had in a movie theater. I only reccomend going there on $5 tuesday unless you want to pay $11.25 for one single ticket in a small town. Even on $5 tuesday there's multiple middle schoolers that go that have 0 respect and make it hard to enjoy any movie. read more

Cute little theater. This place fits right in within the town of Independence. They always have the newest movies so it's always a reliable spot. Out front are some iconic status that are a perfect photo opportunity. Inside the prices are cheap which of course is amazing. Popcorn is under $5 and they have a $12 combo where you get a large popcorn and two drinks! Great deal. This is a very cozy theater and it's a great stop for families or for a date night. read more

I live in a neighboring city and I try to go here instead of anywhere else. I love that it is so close to home. Their prices are usually lower than other theaters, and they have many options to choose from for snacks. You can purchase your seats ahead of time and from the comfort of your own home or even on your phone! The staff are courteous and approachable. Not that great experience today. The young man John has no customer service skills and there should have been a manager on duty. John you need to listen to customers. Nobody went to their assigned seating. Maybe some did but a lot did not because ours was taken we went to some empty seats. Then someone said we were in their seats. So there was a huge confrontation disrupted the movie. The people went and got John who treated us rudely. We told him where our seats were but he would not listen the 3 nice ladies moved and they said their seats were taken. I am sorry but I have never been to a theater where you had assigned seats. This place being lazy decided to keep pandemic seating in place. They had 2 young kids running the place. Anyways long ugly story short John and the girl in there on Monday Jan 16th at 1pm were awful. The owner should not let kids run a business and have no manager on duty. He threatened us and said he reported us to manager and he could kick us out. I said nicely John we just wanted to let you know we had no seats. He then raised his voice in defense I walked away. I doubt the managers give a damn so I doubt will anything from them. The kid owes us an apology. He needs to be trained in customer service. read more

Had a very poor experience they were very persistent on me and my friends following a policy however they did not follow their own policy. They sold me two tickets for a rated R movie but only asked to see my ID and not the other person that I purchased the ticket for . And did not let my friend purchase tickets because she did not have her physical ID however the girl there said that a picture of the ID would be fine. read more

The addition of this movie theatre to Polk County - Independence is a plus. Pros: *I appreciate that they partner with local schools and allow movie tickets to be purchased and a portion goes to the fund raising cause. * Inside the theatre is clean and the chairs are comfortable. The arm rests have a place for soda or they can be put up if you don't want to use them. * Price for an evening 3-D show is a little pricy, but they often offer a 2-D option of the same movie at a different time. Cons: * Occasional sound issues during the advertisements - not a big deal, but I'm sure the advertising businesses would care. * Concessions are a bit pricy for a small town theatre: $15+ for a 2 drinks, large popcorn & a candy. $4 for a 32 oz or smaller drink. More expensive than Disney. *I love popcorn while watching movies. They boast about their popcorn with advertising claiming it is the best that there is. The kernels are huge, but flavorless. Air popped popcorn with real butter would win in a land-slide any day in my opinion, but out of all the theaters I've been to, the popcorn at Independence Cinema is always a let down. * We've been mis-directed to the wrong theatre a few times, and have missed a few minutes. This small-town cinema has metro-movie-theater quality seats, nicely sized theaters, and a good lineup at any given point. It is less of a drive from South Salem than the Santiam/Lancaster theaters and never had a line of more than three people in it in my experience either at the ticketing booth or the concessions counter. Clean, neat, not too flashy outside and has a nice red carpet feel. Cozy and doesn't have huge annoying crowds. This is my favorite in the Salem area, gotta admit. read more

No one was manning the box office and there was no clear organization for the line for buying tickets inside which had some people waiting in a queue and others effectively cutting in line by buying tickets at the concession registers that were selling snacks to other patrons just moments before. They also leave the overhead lights on too bright once the movie started. Made me want to wear a hat to block at least some of the light. Other than that it was pretty good. Small theater room, felt cozy, and not cavernous. If they would just turn down the lights more that would be a big help. read more

have been going here for years...because it's never busy. but tried going yesterday to see Oz...and will never be back. i'm a "it's the point of it" person, basically Larry David's character from Curb. and when things just don't make sense, nothing drives me more crazy. so anyway, arrive for an afternoon showing...order two tickets, candy, and a soda. under-18 year old cashier after ringing us both up, notices my unopened water bottle. she tells me that it's not allowed. i'm like, "ok, so can i have you fill me a glass of water?" i then notice she then grabs a small styrofoam cup and begins filling it. "can i have a larger cup?" no she says, and that i'd have to pay for a regular drink if i wanted a larger cup. OR she pointed at the expensive bottled water i could also buy. UM NO. i mean, we were already purchasing two tickets, one pop, and one candy. how would giving me a larger cup allow me to cheat their system? and if they allow you to come back and get refills, who cares if 1 person in a 100 takes advantage of some water scam? i mean, it's freaking cheap soda pop. GRRRRRRR. so i tell her, "Nevermind, we're leaving" as she gives me a blank stare. seriously, what kind of world do we live in? and what kind of person enforces this system? and what kind of owner allows this to take place????? I love this theater! They always have super good deals and best prices. It's also fairly clean. The only downside is how close the screen is to the seats due to the small size of the theater. But I understand it's because of the town size as well! They have newer movies just like any other theater in Salem, one of the best places I like going to that's close to home.
