Inchcolm Island, a historic Scotland site, is a fantastic day out for all the family.
With plenty of open space, a massive ruined (but largely intact) Augustinian Abbey, and fortifications from World War I and II dotted across the island there is plenty to explore, and something for everyone. Wildlife also abounds here though if you pick a windy day it can be hard to spot! Must sees: the view from the top of the bell tower, the tunnel through a section at the eastern end of the island & the writing on the wall in the warming room above the dormitory.
There is a gift shop, but no food or drinks are sold on the island, so take a picnic and find your own spot. There are plenty of bench seats and picnic tables around, all with fantastic views.
Inchcolm Island is accessible by boat through a number of different companies. As it is a Historic Scotland site, access to the island is charged, but its rather cheap at Adult £5.00, Child £3.00 & Concession £4.00 though the boat trip may set you back around £11.00. read more
