The staff makes learning enticing with field trips/activities often planned around current teachings for fortification of general concepts and ideas. Teachers are highly educated and do not "teach to the middle". They "see" each individual child and teach to that child's abilities. The school's website indicates that between the 2 teachers they have a Masters of Education, a Bachelors of Science, Masters of Fine Arts, and 20 years of experience including a focus on Special Education for learning differences and International experience. It is private, so cost can be challenging, but if you can afford the cost, your child will reap the benefits now and into their future.

Moving them from Lamplighter was very timely as they were craving structured environments that had rigorous academics. I am thrilled that they have been able to pursue their passions - including theater, sports, volunteerism, so many clubs, and leadership opportunities. Don't let the small class size fool you, it is a blessing! There are tons of opportunities for growth and they encourage the students to shine based on their own merits. Contrary to that negative yelp post from way too many years ago (P.S. You can't blame a child's drug habit on the school. That's called observant & disciplined parenting), the administration keeps a close eye on the students and alerts the parents quickly to concerns or behavior shifts. I can confidently say that we have parented in partnership with the school to raise smart, respectful, creative, athletic, well-balanced students. And Lakehill's focus on college prep is indeed a strength. The college counselor Ms. Dondis is a highly acclaimed professional - even a sought after expert speaker in her field. I feel as though he is a mature, respectful, well-prepared middler who I expect to achieve a very sold, college readiness experience. In terms of technology, the school does use lots - iPads, laptops, labs..... fairly typical of what I expect from a school such as this. The most important part of my observation is that he is happy and likes to go to school. I'm impressed. When I lived and taught in Dallas, I had no idea what this school was until a colleague left my school to teach there. That was 1997 - and he is STILL THERE! Since then another friend left his school to teach there. At this point it got my attention. Then they hired a marketing director, and the school started appearing more and more in the paper - like a LOT. Service projects became popular and a mainstay, and it was clear there was a strategic plan executed that included some serious "play," which has paid off; all of these things, my nephew participated in. It's a best kept secret for sure. From a community member perspective, living in the Lakewood area was a good experience, and I was able to participate in their fund raisers (Trek For Tech, among others), even though I didn't have kids in the school. Overall, if you are looking for a private school, you may be immediately enamored with the "big 5 (St. Marks, Cistercian, ESD, Hockaday, and Ursuline), and there are HUGE merits to each of them, but Lakehill prep is not to be missed.

We had arrived for our sons first day, they did not know who we were or where he was supposed to be. We were walked around for 10 minutes from room to room until she figured it out. The lady continued to say "we have just signed up so many children lately, hard to keep track of everyone" When we did finally meet his "teacher" for the day it was a very cold experience. No comfort for the child and not welcoming what so ever. We had hoped this was an off day and spoke with their director Rebecca the following day. We were told this is not the normal and apologized and informed us it will get better, they continue to praise and announce that they continue adding more children yet the current children are still not properly cared for. Not enough staff in the rooms, when we show up for drop off there are typically kids wrestling, kids in corners crying and all around it looks like one big mess. The teacher is usually with 20+ kids and it is not enough. Immediately after discussing our issues, it seemed to be a touch better for a couple days as there was a new teacher and she was a lot better. But that did not last long and she was transferred and he got another even colder teacher. Everyday we arrive it's a new teacher, chaos, no consistency, no compassion or caring. When you enter the classroom, the teachers barely even look at you. They really do need to dive deep into their hiring practice. Upon visiting before signup, they spoke a big game and the facilities were all clean, we were excited to the fact our child would be learning while there - this was not the case. He was just recently at Bright Horizons in Plano but we wanted to get him closer. We have never had an experience quite like this and honestly hope no other families have to go through the same experience. We have removed him from Children's Lighthouse and got him immediately into a much better facility.

Everyone is so friendly and warm and they really do love their kiddos. They communicate with the parents very well. You can always reach out to Mrs. Lloyd or De Haro and they always get back to you pretty quickly. They have a few events during the school year like field trips and parties. The only downside are their hours and that is only because I work full time. BUT, from what I understand, they will be extending their hours before and after school if you want to pay the additional fee. Honestly, they are the best school I have ever experienced and we are so sad to be leaving.

As a family new to the Montessori approach, we quickly noticed a positive change in our little one, who started shortly after her second birthday. She was welcomed into an already established group of children and teachers with such care and ease. We have been extremely impressed with her growth, development, and especially her speech. Brentfield is the only school where someone knew more about autism than I do. Principal Steve Lemons is a diplomat. He supports his teachers tremendously but he also acknowledges their flaws. He knows the name of every child, he greets them, he is no stranger to the cafeteria. He was born to be an elementary school principal. Absolutely.

My son started attending the preschool in late October/early November. At his previous center, we…read moreexperienced a situation where he was bitten several times. We discovered the bites during bath time period I expressed to the director at Meadow Oaks that it was important to notify me if anything happened to my son. I explained that I did not want to discover something had been happening that was not reported. However that exact thing happened at Meadow Oaks. My son has longer hair, that he wore in braids, and it was ripped from his skull. When I noticed that his hair had been pulled from his head, I immediately called the center. The director was unaware however the teacher, Clarissa, knew what had happened and did not report it. In addition, I was asked to come in Monday to view the footage and when I showed up there was no footage to see. It had already been deleted based on their video storage system. Clarissa says that the incident happened in an area that is a blind spot for the camera. I do not feel that a child of 18 months can rip someone's hair completely from their scalp. Clarissa had been rude to me on previous occasions(I reported this to the director), on 3 instances I came to the center and my son was soaking wet(pants and diaper with urine), and his face would often be dirty. I reported this incident to the Mesquite police and Texas department of child care licensing. This was a heartbreaking experience for me because I explain to them all I went through emotionally after my son attended his previous center and the exact same thing happened here. The director is unaware of what happens at her center, and the teachers are inadequate and incapable of caring for children.
