What a terrible experience! I was booked with a Dr Lena Ha , but I'm not sure who I met with was a professional. She was unclear as to why I was there after filling out intake form online with DETAILED dx and mri results. She immediately stated that " I don't think physical therapy will help you".. really?? My Doctor thinks so! Then she said, " I have sciatica - it never goes away. I stated that I had sciatica 5 years ago, did physical therapy and do my exercises to this day it has not returned.. she said, yes, that's good. Whaaaat?!! I asked what we could do to help calm the pain - ie: ice therapy, decompression, massage, tens unit.. she just said," we don't do that". Then she proceeded to have me attempt movements to get a baseline - I told her this is extremely painful - I have done this at physicians office - I have all the records and notes for you .. she just looked confused and asked me to stand and bend ( 5 bulging and one herniated disk) Then she asked if Dr recommended surgery - I said, no Dr recommended physical therapy!!!! After about 10 minutes of this nonsense, I stood up and said, no, this isn't what I need" she said, " okay bye". I have been to physical therapy in the past and this place was negative, uncaring, and extremely disorganized with no communication what so ever. I called Medicare and we are watching to see if they try to bill for an hour appointment since I was there with her less than 10 minutes. Very disappointed to say the least. read more

In Motion OC claims to be the highest-rated physical therapy in Orange County, but does it live up to the hype? I visited in August 2025 for cervical radiculopathy after a neurosurgeon referral due to worsening neck pain, especially on my left side, though my right side also had issues. Pain radiated from my neck to my shoulder on the left and into the scalene muscle on the right. The virtual front desk was a unique touch. You check in via video chat, scanning your insurance card and ID, which is processed remotely. It's fancy but feels odd, though convenient for remote staff. My initial evaluation was with Lina Ha. She identified tight neck muscles and poor shoulder internal rotation, confirming my suspicions. However, despite emailing my MRI and X-ray results beforehand, they weren't shared with her, so I had to resend them during the appointment--a frustrating admin oversight. Lina prescribed exercises and stretches to improve posture, noting weak postural muscles and tight neck, traps, and shoulders. In Motion's app was a highlight, offering video examples of exercises, real-time updates, and a daily achievement system. You can also schedule appointments and message your therapist, though rescheduling requires calling, and responses to messages take 1-2 days, sometimes longer. Scheduling with Lina was tough due to my 40-hour workweek, so I alternated with Dr. Christian. Both adjusted manual therapy well, but communication between therapists was poor. Dr. Christian admitted he didn't know my case as well as Lina, and exercises he prescribed weren't shared with her or updated in the app. This lack of coordination was frustrating. My cervical radiculopathy improved slightly, likely due to exercises and an epidural steroid injection from my pain management doctor. However, new shoulder and upper back pain emerged, possibly from a rotator cuff issue or impingement (awaiting MRI approval). Exercises involving arm movement worsened this pain, affecting my ability to use a computer mouse. Lina eventually reduced my exercises to every other day, focusing on those that didn't trigger pain, and introduced cupping, which helped. Dr. Christian later adjusted therapy for tingling in my pinky, possibly from ulnar nerve sensitivity. Despite these adjustments, I often left sessions in more pain. Only my final session, where Dr. Christian used a neck traction device after chest-opening stretches, left me feeling better. Frustratingly, this wasn't tried until my 12th session, and Dr. Christian was unaware of my cervical disc herniations, despite my submitted MRI. I question whether In Motion's standard approach--minimal therapist time and reliance on aides--failed to monitor my progress closely. Advice on computer posture, critical for my issues, was given only twice in two months. Most sessions focused on exercises I could do at home, some of which worsened my pain. In Motion's aides are nice but juggle multiple patients and tasks, leaving me waiting. This is typical of PT places but disappointing for a "top-rated" facility. A perk was 50% off my first massage with Annette Nolasco, which was decent but not worth full price compared to other options. In Motion is fine for single, acute injuries but struggles with complex cases. If you need one-on-one attention to avoid exacerbating issues, look elsewhere. After two months, I'm switching to a place offering dedicated therapist time. In Motion feels like a polished but ultimately standard PT experience--more zoo than personalized care. read more

Of the many physical therapy places I've had to go to, In Motion O.C. tops the bunch by a long shot. After MPFL surgery, I could barely lift my leg up. In just a few short months, a couple months before the timeline my surgeon set up for me, I was able to start jogging and running again. I've been coming to In Motion for about 6 months now both 4 months pre surgery and then 2 months now post. In that time I've seen many great Physical Therapist at In Motion. I've been working with Nikki for the last two months post shoulder surgery and making excellent progress. My doctor referred me here initially for a torn meniscus. I went to the Fountain Valley location. At first I was really high on the experience. Loved the virtual check in and the fact you got videos of your exercises which you could use as you practiced at home. I found the therapist was extremely personable. I quickly felt my knee was fairly stable but noticed the placement on the table for my meniscus therapy was bothering preexisting lower back issues so my doctor changed the prescription from meniscus to lower back. Unfortunately, the back therapy made my back worse! I clearly discussed with the therapist the back pain generated on the table in the meniscus sessions. Despite the input, the first thing he did was put me on the table and used a strap to raise my legs, which caused intense pain which took significant time to recover from. The assistant who took over for half of each session did not routinely demonstrate exercises. When the assistant did explain, her verbal prompts were less than concise. I found this part of the appointment stressful as I wasn't sure I was doing things correctly. I now see a personal trainer elsewhere, who is not a physical therapist, he's located in a gym. He is able to avoid inflicting back pain which has enabled me to benefit from lots of stretching and incrementally greater weight lifting exercises. The gym trainer demonstrates each exercise, without prompting, until it's clear I have a familiarity with the routine. His tone is upbeat and attentive to the progress being made. Given the mostly high In Motion ratings, perhaps my experience is atypical. I'm a senior and may require more demonstrative repetition than a younger person. It could very well be a better fit for you than it was for me. read more

I'm a true believer in IMOC Fitness! I've been coming to every class since the soft opening and I could not be more of a believer of the coach's expertise and my body's transformation. They are trained to help with fitness and rehabilitation training. It's had been over three weeks since the date of the request has been made for physical therapy and I have not received any response related to my request. Office staff has seemingly held the welcome packet and application as hostage until they're able to fully verify insurance liability. This is a turn off to any customer in need of services . After making several attempts to resolve this matter, I moved on to a different location that had the resources to make stuff happen! I went to this facility specifically to see Alan Vogel. He was recommended by my orthopedic doctor and did not disappoint! Alan has soooo much experience and I enjoyed learning from him the science of physical therapy. He took time to explain to me the impact of different exercises. I had tried everything over a period of almost two years and nothing worked -- until I worked with Alan. After a few months I am back to fill activity. I can't thanks Alan enough.
