I recommend this place to all my friends with kids and the main reason why I love Oam Studios is because they teach the fundamentals and explain the basics (shading, pencil pressure, anatomy, symmetry, etc) to children instead of making them replicate an art by following step by step instructions. Students get to pick their own project and the teacher works with them individually even though it's a group class. Teacher Omar created a system with gateways (drawing, painting, ceramics, digital art) that makes it fun for children to explore different means and 'advance in levels' as they learn more techniques. I came in with a love for art, but little knowledge in the technical aspects. Through Ichen's summer programs, I got to explore many different media including charcoal, oil painting, and digital. The academy's instructors are very well educated in the arts and provide a plethora of resources and materials to help me succeed. They provided guidance in composition, technique, color, etc. while motivating me to enter my art into competitions... ultimately which I won a few! Ryan, Ichen Art Academy's Artist in Residence, has provided me with fantastic support over the years. Way Up Art and Frame has great service and attention to detail…read more We had wanted an international threading artwork to be framed with a single mat and outlined frame to put on top of the fireplace, but didn't know where to start. Way Up had pre-selected and well-priced deluxe packages (for labor, framing, mats, and glass casing) to choose from which made the process much easier. You can also go outside of the pricing packages for more customization but we had no need to go to that extent. The framing was done in a timely manner and I received good notification when it was done! To add to the level of service, a week after hanging my painting on the wall, it seemed to have slipped the nail one night and fell, severely chipping the based of the frame. The nail positioning was my own mistake; I was shocked and worried about having to pay again for the full frame. I took it back in to Way Up, explained the situation, and Sierra and the team did an amazing job re-framing it in less than a week and at a small fraction of the original cost. I will definitely be thinking of Way Up Art and Frame for my future artwork and framing needs!

The pros: The space was bright, colorful, organized and clean. The staff were friendly and informative and didn't mind giving us extra paint when we wanted additional colors. Love that you can just walk right in without reservations. The cons: Wow is this place expensive for what you get. Most of their items that you can paint can easily be found in the dollar section at Target or for less the $5 at Michael's. The cheapest item to paint was $15 and those were very small pieces which can easily be painted in less than 10 minutes. My son chose a wooden snake and I chose a window clings wind chime. Each were $22. I would expect more expensive prices for items like this if maybe you get some special tools or paints to use. You simply get a paper plate with acrylic colors of your choice and paint brushes. I do not feel this is worth the price when I can easily replicate this experience in my own home for less than $10. Overall, the idea is great but they need to make this experience more unique in order for it to be worth the price. For example, there is another craft place in Pleasanton that you can create ceramics that have to go into a kiln for around the same price. That is not something I can replicate in my own home and is therefore worth the price.
