I haven't had my hair blown out in a longggg while simply because I've learned to do it myself. However laziness got the best of me so I decided to take a trip to impressions (which I've been to many times 5+ years ago). Anyways assuming new stylist come and go, I am solely basing this review off of my experience on 5/8/19. I went in for a wash and set, waited 45+ mins before I was even washed which isn't my main complaint. After sitting and waiting, waiting and sitting, being placed under a dryer which fried my scalp I was finally tended too by a young lady who seemed to be the only one styling hair. To make a long story short. My hair was NOT* styled to my liking and my scalp was nicely burned in more than one location (will insert photo) I personally will not be going back to this particular salon, but to each his own Recommendation: it would be nice to have at least 2+ people doing hair between washes, rollers, styling. Also if a customer shows you a picture of what kind of curls they like. Please do not do to the customer what you like. So, I went to this location about a week ago as a walk in For a wash and set. When I got in they washed and styled my hair. The wash was terrible and my hair still felt dirty, they didn't sanitize the stations between each customer, and they weren't wearing mask but it was a requirement for customers. They didn't give me any feedback on my hair I had to ask to have a cut and to add insult to injury it was very weighed down, oily and flat. I was not impressed with Theresa or her staff to say the least. Fast forward to today I'm washing my hair (which I like to do between salon visits to provide deep conditions and so forth) I realize my hair smells like keratin(eggy,strong weird smell) I know for sure these people put some type of perm or straightening agents in my hair without my consent or knowledge. I'm natural and expressed that during my initial phone call and upon starting my session. During that phone call I did ask if they do keratin or utilize any unwanted perms in customers hair. I was assured that they don't do anything like that. To say the least I'm highly disappointed and won't return if I could give this place a 0 I would. I asked for a wash and set and most definitely got more than that. I've never had a perm or any damage, I washed my hair in preparation for another style and noticed that it had a weird perm smell and scattered around my hair was stringing ends. I'm writing about the new Arverne location. I thought it was great for a beauty/ nail salon to open right in walking distance from my new home. So my sister in law and myself wanted to have manicures. My sister in law is a Latina & I am African American. Apparently the nail technician giving my sister in law her manicure didnt realize we were together. In Spanish, my sister in law asked the tech if she liked the new location, job, etc & the girl told her she didn't because they were TOO MANY BLACK PPL. Of course my sister in law told her she shouldn't say things like that & that she had a biracial child & black husband. After leaving my sister in law told me what was said and I was shocked especially since the workers are Dominican and some had darker complexions than myself. I'm not sure what happened in the past two years but the quality and customer service has completely gone down and I will not be returning. We walked into the Salon and only one person was working. So we signed our names and sat down for a good 20 minutes. Another woman waltz in and sits down at the front desks and plays some music, never greeted us. I've worked in customer service so I understand when you just walk in as an employee you need time to get your thoughts together, I totally get it. But after 10 minutes the hair stylist proceeds to start another clients hair, still no acknowledgment not even eye contact. So I politely ask the hair stylist a question about a style we were looking to get and she doesn't even turn her head, just offers a silent nod. That was the final straw, we decided to leave. It was completely disrespectful and not a place I would trust my hair and want to spend my money. Worst Dominican hair salon I've been too! I've been here since 230 p.m and it's almost 6 p.m and I'm still not in the chair, all I wanted was a wash and blow and the woman who washed my hair suggested I get it because a wash and set would be the same price being that I'm "natural" as she said. Because having curly hair that is not hard to manage is "natural" I'm disgusted with this place and I will not recommend anyone to come to this establishment. In my opinion the quality of the wash and sets aren't how they used to be and they are definitely over priced. Let me be the first to warn people about this place! This review is from a series of experiences over the last 2 1/2 years. Let me break it down... Let's begin with the fact that the stylists are ALWAYS getting their hair done, which is fine with me if there is down time. However, paying customers should not have to wait while their stylist is being pampered. That is beyond me. Next, let's talk about how rude and bitchy these women are. Most of the customers are black and do not speak/understand Spanish. Unluckily for them, I am black but speak AND understand Spanish. In one instance I sat and listened to these bitches have a full blown conversation in Spanish about me, discussing what they were going to charge me (which was higher than what they originally told me) and other unnecessary comments about my hair. Since most of them don't understand English too well I approached the woman at the desk and told her to tell the others to cut the shit and that I understood everything they were saying. Needless to say she was rude too and didn't even pick her head up from her phone to acknowledge me. The fact that they had comments is irrelevant to me or my life, but they could have waited until I left to talk. Even when I call they are very rude over the phone. Sometimes when they pick up I have to wait 15 seconds to hear them laugh and finish their conversation before they even say hello. They are also very loud and always having extremely loud conversations. The salon is supposed to be a semi-relaxing place and if anything this place gives me a headache. If it's not the music it's the stylists. Keeping the language barrier in mind, a lot of the times the girls do not understand what I want so they do what they THINK I want. I'm always willing to wait for them to call someone over that can translate but apparently they never have the time/patience for that. Some of them don't understand simple things. the last time I went the lady tried to do pin curls in my hair when I asked for a simple blow out. When I tried to explain she said "Ok mami" and continued with the pin curls, which tells me she didn't understand me at all. It took me explaining 3 times and the intervention of another stylist for me to finally get my hair blown out. I just hate that they pretend to understand you just to do whatever they want and get you out of the way. The one reason I have kept going back is one girl named Andrea whose family owns the salon. She is very sweet and is amazing with hair! she also speaks/understands perfect English. I have no problem with people who do not but I just want to be understood in terms of what I want done with my hair. However, she does not take control of the salon and allows the other girls to do whatever they want. Although she's very good with hair I won't be returning because she's not very accessible. Either she'll be in the salon but claim she's not doing hair that day or is not there at all. When I call no one ever seems to want to tell me when Andrea will be working next. So going there trying to look for her has become a hassle and not worth it. Michelle is also very good but again it's not worth taking the chance to see if she's there with everything else that goes on. Warning: NO ONE ELSE knows how to do hair besides these two. In general, the other girls don't seem to know their head from their ass. They don't know prices and have to call Andrea on her day off to ask her. They have tried to charge me extra on certain styles that I get regularly so I know what I should be charged. Needless to say when I insist that they're wrong a conversation in Spanish ensues. Overall, very rude and unorganized and crossing my fingers hoping Andrea is there (since no one ever know anything over the phone) is not worth it. Moral of the story is, 8 times out of 10 I leave frustrated. AVOID. read more

Customer Service does not exist here. Last time I was here, I asked the woman washing my hair for deep conditioner. She finished washing my hair without conditioning it and then told me that I didn't ask her. From there I said forget it because I didn't want to spend any extra money here. Once I finished drying, the person styling my hair took it upon herself to totally straighten my hair and I wanted curls. I told her I didn't like it and the manager told me to come in the next day to fix it because there were no stylists in the salon at the moment. I went to get a sew in. I asked to use less heat when providing a leave out. They still used a lot of heat that you can see smoke coming from my hair. I'm transitioning. So weeks after having the sew in, I have a hard time taking the hair out and I never had that problem before. I think it's a way to make you put more money in their pockets to get it removed. Went in yesterday afternoon to get a blow out. I already washed, conditioned, and blow dried my hair at home . I just wanted it to be straightened and trimmed which essentially takes about 20 minutes. I patiently waited 2 hours then the lady told me I was next . She finished the Person's hair , then called someone else . I told her you said I was next , she said sorry the other lady was next . I waited another half hour while she finished this lady's hair. When she finished , she proceeded to take another person . I confronted her and she claims now this person was next .After she just told me I was next twice now. I tried to support this business, but today I was grossed out. I was getting a pedicure when I saw a big roach crawling next to my head on the same chair that I was located. I told the nail technician and she simply changed my seat to the next adjacent seat. I had to ask myself, "Doesn't she know they crawl and can crawl to the next seat." Then in the same basin of water that my feet was located, I see a baby roach. The nail technician kills that one while it was in the same basin as my feet and sprays some liquid on the area she smooshed it. I will never go back there nor will I recommend anyone to that place. The nail salon should be a place to ease stress and it created anxiety for me. Moreover, they didn't seem bothered about the roach crawling on my chair. Impressions by Theresa just opened in Arverne by the Sea, Rockaway. I was so happy to have a spa in the neighborhood..... not happy anymore, after this morning. I went for leg waxing, their printed price list said "half legs -- $25.00." At the cash register (cash only) I was charged $40. I then showed the receptionist the price list, and she said, "oh, $25 is for one leg only." I then pointed to the plural "legs" on the price list. She double checked with someone in the back and said, "no, it's $40." I looked at the price list to see if there was any mention of the $40 charge, but there was none. So I asked (rhetorically) if they ever had any customers that requested to have just one leg waxed. You know, if they had, that would justify pricing by the individual leg. This is the absolute WORST salon I've ever been to in my life. I came in at 9:30 AM to get my gull weave put in and they proceeded to tell me that none of the stylist who do weaves were in yet (there was only one worker in the shop). This review is for Impressions on hollis and francis lewis .I use to come here when I first started high school in 06. It was fresh and new when everyone wanted that Dominican blowout. Grace who is very nice would do my hair for the first year and then she started doing weaves. so eventually I got thrown around to the other stylist and then I stuck with one who was of darker complexion. Between 07-11 this salon was extremely packed everyday. Since I lived around the corner and was in high school it was a easy 2 min walk. The weekends were the worst! People would literally get there at 730 and wait in line for the grandma to open up at 8 am and start washing hair. She washes hair for about 45 mins no lie. You would be in this salon all day. My last year in this salon was Sep 2012. For my cousins wedding I got a perm and also wanted my first weave which grace did. Everyone said it was beautiful and i did too. About 3 weeks later I couldn't stand not touching my own hair so I took it out and my hair fell out in clumps it was horrible. That was the day I decided to go natural and looked up all the information. I big chopped myself learned about my hair and haven't been back ever since. My hair is now flawless no perms no Dominican blowout.
