First time visiting this salon. I called on a Sunday to inquire about an appointment time and they accommodated me that same day. The salon had a good amount of customers in there so make sure you set aside a few extra hours. I do not remember the names of the 2 assistants ( I really wish I wrote it down). The older lady who had the stew peas soup with rice did a PHENOMENAL job washing and even massaging my scalp. WOW. Looking forward to seeing her again. Whatever she used to wash my hair left my scalp feeling cool and refreshed. Ms. Marcia styled my natural hair ( no perm) into coils. Today is Friday and my coils still look fresh and I've been getting none stop compliments. This shop is conveniently located right by the Cross island highway- 10 minutes from sunrise highway and it is not overpriced. Super happy with my look and will definitely return Parking is not too hard to find . It is not metered. This place is a Gem. Super happy I found it here on yelp. read more

Naturalistas look no further! I repeat, it is safe! Cleared for landing! As I write this review, on day 1 of my super silky bouncy, shiny, silk press. I have to say that I am super satisfied with my experience at the salon and the results of my hair. As a life long natural girl that has experienced a tragic heat damage episode in the past, I thought it was important to go to salon that focuses on treating and maintaining healthy hair. This is it! I am an extremely "tender-headed" individual but as an adult I've learned to check myself and keep the sounds of my whimpers to myself. I made the tiniest noise when the stylist washing my hair started to detangle and she stopped and asked me if I was tender headed and resumed in the most gentle manner possible. She detangled my hair with softer hands than my own mother! I immediately felt like Judas betraying Jesus after that thought but you have to give credit where credit is due! I can't wait to come back! #newhairwhodis read more

Came here sort of last minute to get a silk press ($65)for my birthday, and they were so kind and squeezed me in on a Sunday. The salon is clean an brightly lit, and they have a closet for customers. I think they used 2 different kinds of shampoo oh peppermint oil on my hair and they smelled AMAZING, my hair felt extra clean. You know how they say if a stylist's hair looks good you're in good hands? Well Marcia's Afro looked amazing and she did not disappoint! She was very gentle, used appropriate heat, and didn't burn me once. We talked about the products she used and she really does care about hair's health. Needless to say I am very satisfied! read more

Ronnet was absolutely patient with my 6.9 year old and the ridiculous amount of hair she has. She didn't cry and beg to leave and that's a big deal. All the ladies were wonderful. There was no wait, it wasn't crowd, was well kept and we will be back. I can't tell you how happy we are. read more

This review was the most difficult review I ever had to write, but I look to Yelp for trustworthy reviews, so I hope this will help someone. Prior to me coming to this salon I had back length (when silk pressed) natural hair. I was tired of commuting to get my hair done and I saw this salon and it's marvelous reviews. The first time I went, I got crochet braids. I was impressed by the fact that the owner jumped in my car and went with me to purchase the correct hair. I decided to relax my hair, the service went downhill, after the relaxer my back length hair went to shoulder length. Up until today I have no idea how. I went to get another relaxer and my shoulder length hair went to neck length with one side longer than the other!!! I was so dismayed, I texted the owner right away and via text she replied sorry. I still returned to the salon after that; but the last straw was I made a comment about not liking my hair, while I was still in her chair and she waited until I was about to exit the salon to tell her next client in "Oh she don't like her hair, because she accustomed to it being on her back"! I had to go to Js salon so she could correct the hair trim/severe cut I received read more

There are hardly words to describe my experience at MBY salon. I really wanted a change in my life so I decided to get a tapered cut but I was skeptical about where to go. I found this salon on yelp and heard good reviews about it from people in the community. They did not disappoint! The service here was excellent from the moment I walked in. I was greeted and did not have a long wait to get washed. Marcia, the owner was very helpful and informative on how to not only style and treat my hair but how to maintain healthy growth. I must say I was ecstatic about the end result. The staff at MBY took care of all my needs and my cut was beyond my imagination. Thank you to the staff at MBY I will return for maintenance. read more

I have been coming to Marcia for the past year. When I first started I was losing a lot of hair in the middle of my hair. She treated my hair and grew my hair back. I recommend her to any and everyone needing their do done l! . read more

I went there yesterday for a wash, condition, trim, and silk press. My hair is natural and I'm very Leary of going to salons because I don't have time to spend all day in the salon. I arrived a little early for my appointment but I was seen right away. The salon is a warm and welcoming environment. The woman who washed and conditioned my hair was thorough and gentle . She did an excellent job and was very attentive. The owner pressed, trimmed and styled my hair.. she knows her stuff!! She Asked for my input before she started cutting ( I loved that). The end result was my hair looking healthier and way better than it looked when I walked in. I will definitely be going back. Too bad I didn't have a before picture. read more

I was able to get a quick appointment for a silk press , permanent color and trim. I was surprised by the $105 charge I received. I was given a quote by Jasmine of $70 the Day before. When I questioned her she said yesterday was a bad day . I requested a natural black color and received a light brown. I questioned Marcia she told me it was because of the hot tools she was using- when truly the color did not take. read more

Found this place on a whim. Needed a good wash and set and wanted to go someplace where they knew my type of hair. I called and they were able to fit me in same day in about an hr and a half. I made my way to the salon and within the first few minutes I was seen, seated at a sink and had my hair washed. I don't know what kind of shampoo the young lady used but it gave my scalp a tingling sensation and smelled very minty and I will have to admit I throughly enjoyed it. Being the fact that my hair is considered natural I couldn't get my hair rolled set it had to be blow dried then flat ironed. I was placed under a dryer (after my hair was parted and combed out into sections) for about 2 hrs or so ( I have very thick and long hair). After the dryer they same young lady that washed me hair blew it dry. After a while when she was finished with one of her clients the owner then flat ironed my hair and it was soo straight. She even curled it to give it some bounce and volume. My only issue is that they don't oil your hair before they flat ironed it or blow dry it, and I don't remember them putting any heat protectant in my hair. They service was great and attentive s little bit my pricey then I'm used to but you pay for quality not by price and the quality was definitely outstanding. I will definitely be coming back read more

You need Someone to care for your strands as though it were their own? Someone who has the expertise to match the certifications on the wall and remain human? Ive been to this establishment for almost a year and can honestly say I've never had better or more attention to my hair type. I met the owner after searching tirelessly on the web due severe damage to my hair with a wide range of extensions and beauty products. She advises me on health of my hair and always concerned about her progress in managing my issues. (AND my hair is healthy and growing) Cant say it enough, you have little hair, damaged hair or NO hair, make an appointment. Marcia and Kay gets 5 stars, Im beyond satisfied! read more

I have been going to Marcia for almost 2 years. I found her online and saw the great reviews, so I decided to try her out. I was looking for a good Black stylist at a salon where I didn't have to spend the entire day. I have long, thick, natural hair. I needed someone willing to put up with the hassle of my hair. Marcia has done all of this. I text her to make an appointment and I'm seen at the time of my appointment and I'm there the amount of time that expect to spend. Also, her prices are reasonable. When I first went to Marcia, my hair was half relaxed and half natural. She got my hair through the transition. At this time, I am fully natural and my hair has grown so long and is so healthy. My hair loves Marcia's hands. I never have to tell her what to do. I sit in the chair and she works her magic and does what she does best. I drive all the way from Brooklyn to Valley Stream because she is that good. I highly recommend Marcia!! read more

MBY Empire - Long and natural. Thanks Marcia! - Hair Stylists Near Me - Valley Stream, New York

I've been meaning to write this review for a while, but I never got around to it. I was a regular client of Marcia for about six years, first at Beauty Empire and then at MBY. After I graduated from high school, I went away for college and I currently wear natural hairstyles, BUT you rarely find a hairstylist like Marcia. For reference, I have 3b/3c hair and my hair has never been permed. Marcia has styled my hair through all of its phases: curls, straight, short, long, side bangs, tapered bangs, highlights, layers, single process color, etc. When I had highlights, she made sure to give me regular deep conditioning treatments. My hair retained its health during this period of time, no excessive damage or crazy breakage. This salon is great because they are accommodating. No appointment? It'll be a wait, but you'll be taken care of. For my 16th birthday, I got highlights and bangs. Marcia stayed after store hours to finish up my hair and make sure it was done properly. What more could you ask for from a hairstylist? Marcia always aimed to perfect whatever new hair look I was going for, and I was always happy with her work! read more

5 yrs ago I was in search for a professional and drama free hair salon where someone will be less focused in my personal life and more focused in properly caring for my hair. The first time I went to this place, I had an appointment, was on time and the owner greeted me....by name. I was impressed. There was no wait time, she began doing my hair right away. She started dreds for me which came out beautifully. As I sat in her chair, the owner, Marcia gave me great advice about how to maintain my hair and my children who also have dreds. Marcia goes above and beyond and it seems that she is a high quality professional and runs her business that way. As I sat in the saloon I noticed that everyone who had their hair done, from weaves, relaxers, short natural haircuts and more, all looked fabulous. If you are looking for a professional environment and a hair stylist that is an honest pro. try this place. I am so glad I read the online reviews and gave it a try! read more

I went to this Salon with my 9 year old on a Sunday to get her natural hair washed and trimmed and treated. The wait was long but we didn't have an appointment so I understood. I made a mistake of not asking how much the service would cost and assumed it was nothing but a trim and treatment, ( no styling, just blow out and ponytail) well $70 dollars later I was not happy, but like I said it was my mistake. Surprisingly though I must say my daughter's hair was very healthy and strong. A few week later her hair was still beautiful and strong. I actually was very pleased with my daughter's hair. My daughter told me that the stylist put at least two different treatments on her hair. I will bring my daughter back to this salon for her hair care maybe about every two months. read more

First off don't be deceived my natural sisters, this is not a natural hair salon. They claim that they can take care and style natural hair false!!! I went there thinking I can get a deep condition and flexi rod set, simple right? Well no...not for this hair dresser. So rough with washing my hair, didn't even trim and rushed to put in my flexirods, literally felt like she was riping my hair out!!! I even told her to be more delicate. She didn't care....and to make matters worse I barely was under the dryer for long I knew my hair was still wet...so how can the curls even come out? She could care less obviously because she was rushing to close the shop up! So when she started taking out the rods,I told her I don't like it and she was like oh that's the style I wanted....when I clearly showed her a picture of the same exact style I want. The style was ugly,it didn't curl right at all ,hair still wet,oh yea didn't trim ends at all and to top it all off she was like you can do rest at home....some kind of professional... And had the never to charge me $90 for everything, such a misleading disappointing place...I'm never coming back, they need to take off that they take care of natural hair because they don't. So unfortunate. read more

I have been going to Marcia for about six months now and my hair looks fabulous. She is very professional. Okay so I barely write reviews, but I had to find MBY on Yelp and review this salon ASAP. I live in the neighborhood and I've always passed this salon, one day I finally had the courage as of late to call the salon's owner, Marcia, to make an appointment to get my hair done. When I arrived for my appointment I was seen right way with no long wait. I told Marcia it was the first time that I am cutting my hair and I was a bit nervous, Marcia made me feel as comfortable as possible and then started the job. She asked what style I wanted , I showed her a picture and she did exactly what I asked for. What else can a woman ask for? Might I add the products she uses is out of this world, my hair felt 100% healthier when I walked out the salon, you can tell she actually cares about haircare and she isn't just styling to make a few bucks. Marcia is so professional and she treats her customers with so much respect it makes you feel at home. Marcia has gained a new client and I have gained a new hairstylist that I will be keeping under my belt for years to come!!! Thank you MBY for such a great experience, please never change the service you give to your customers!!!!!! Five stars without any questions asked!!!!!! read more

I've been to many different salons in the past and I must say that this one has exceeded my expectations. Marcia (my stylist and owner of the salon) was recommended to me from sister. She is professional, punctual as well as knowledgeable. Since she works by appointments, I'm always taken in as soon as I walk in. Unlike other salons, you will not find yourself waiting a ridiculous amount of time there. Her prices are reasonable as well as her business hours. She will work with you to ensure that your hair requirements are fulfilled. read more

I had my very first appointment with Marcia tonight and have to say it's by far one of the best salon experiences I've had in years. I cut my hair short a few years ago, and have yet to find a stylist who knows how to get it right....until now! Marcia curled my hair so fast I was done in less than 20 minutes. It's soft and healthy looking, and I've already received several compliments within a matter of an hour or so. Plus, you can't beat the price. Loved the whole experience, I will definitely become a regular!!! read more
