I ran across Ella & David's. I called to get information, David answered the phone and was extremely confident and answered my questions perfectly. I asked him if he had availability that same day, a Saturday mind you, and he told me to come right in. I did not even have to buy the Groupon and he still gave me the deal- cant say he will always do this but it was a great gesture. (Either way always call before you purchase Groupon's, sometimes they just post for advertisement). The salon was as busy as you would expect a salon to be on a saturday. However, without an appointment I only waited an hour. David talked me through other options and products to assist me through my "Rome Crisis." The entire Keratin process took about 3 hours, which i expected. The salon was great! Friendly, relaxed and everyone seemed to be a regular customer was treated like family. Ive been to other New York Salons and either everyone is up tight or they treat you like cattle. David and Ella's was amazing!!! So far my hair is pin straight. I am not a fan of the texture and feel but i'll wait until i wash it to really tell. I'll also post after Rome to let everyone know how it went. LAST AND FINAL NOTE: Ella's Salon is actually a salon that was located in an area that was devastated by hurricane Sandy. David and his stylist were kind enough take out their mani pedi spa area and allow Ella to set up shop. I just think that is just a really amazing gesture.

I was leaving to backpack Europe for two months (no blow dryer, straightener or serious $$ to spend at one of my previous Keratin salons) and stumbled across the Groupon for Ella and David's. I called to see if they had availability and David said to come in that Monday (I found out when I got there he had come in JUST for me that morning.. AWESOME) and he said they would still honor the Groupon deal without me purchasing it (saves them a fee!). (You are also offered a free mani or pedi OR a trim with the deal). David was amazing and I will 100% be back to get the treatment done again. Best part: I have not once touched a straightener since this treatment and use a blow drier occasionally. A little over two months later and my hair is still air drying with just a little bit of wave. I have had the Keratin treatment done 5-6 times before at expensive salons and I would be pulling out my straightener and blow dryer around this time. Not sure if it's what David uses or how he does it.. but I don't see myself needing another treatment for a few months from now. Paid half the price I normally do and looks to be lasting twice as long. Nothing bad to say about this place at all and can't wait to return!

I walked in to their room to check on them, only to find strands and locks of hair everywhere! My 5 year old decided to play hair salon. I was so mad I was literally pulling hair out. Not only did she cut her own, but her little sister's hair, too. UGH! My husband and I quickly got them dressed and ran to Unique Beauty, which is 2 blocks away from home. This place opened up a little less than 4 months ago, I know cause I pass by every weekday morning when I drop Kay off to school, and this was the first spot that popped up in my head as we were heading out the door. The stylist was very straight forward, he looked at their hair and gave us honest advice. As much as I wanted to keep their hair long, it wasn't gonna work. Each cut was about 15 minutes long. He was very confident with each and every snip as he combed through the hair. Luckily for us, they sat STILL. I had my fingers crossed. I was very satisfied, and pleased, with the outcome. Lovely cuts, friendly service, and reasonable prices! Locking this place in as my new spot.

I walk in to a huge salon with 2 people. One at the reception and one stylist washing someone's hair. I informed them I had a Groupon coupon for full highlights and blow dry. Given the previous reviews I wanted to make sure I wasn't over charged. At 3 pm I said I would have to wait for a few minutes as the hair colorist was "finishing up" with another client. I trusted them thinking the wash up was towards the end of the ongoing service. At 3.15 the hair colorist comes and starts Consulting giving me a color swatch to select my highlights from. Again the colorist tells me she will attend to me in a few minutes after she finishes up with the client she was attending to. Then I realize it's 3.30 pm and I start getting impatient. Nobody comes to explain when I will be attended to. The hair colorist comes up again... voila and plops another swatch book to select from and talks about having to use gloss (extra 45$). I don't budge and tel her I'll see how the color turns out and then maybe get on the gloss. She leaves to attend to the same customer whose life story I heard and who went about blessing those sole to employees as if she were in church! Then the receptionist walks past me and I ask her how much longer..?? (It's 3.45 pm) she said the current customer added a service! She had the audacity to let the customer add a service while a customer with a valid appointment had walked in!! Made me wait for 45 minutes, never gave me an accurate expected wait time and top it with zilch apologies!! I figured the "hogged my time slot customer" was 350$ kaching to the salon. What's an 85$ groupon customer for that...?? I picked my own color, no consultation on what color I should try or stay away from and the highlighting is really average. There are chunks of color near the crown of my head that made my friends ask if it was an at home job..Not to mention the only stylist managed to attend to one more person while she had my head on the hair wash basin wet and all I could do for 20 minutes was stare at walls. For consolation I could do it two ways... diagonal at 45 degrees angle or crane my neck towards the ceiling for a full 90! I got done at 6 pm. At 3 hours for hair 3 inches above shoulders this was the longest I've come across for hair coloring. Please also note they are shut Sunday to Tuesday. Apparently they are understaffed with a huge salon in a pretty prime business area. My assumption is this is a front for something shady and the stylists are on contract to legit the operations. One bad review could be an outlier... don't fool yourself by not trusting all the lone stars here. Even if it's a Groupon deal, take one from another salon.

As a longtime ewc water I am accustomed to non double dipping, fresh wax, sterilization, and the 4 step process. Now I will say this place is not Ewc. They offer chocolate wax as opposed to hard wax and have one suite. I asked if they double dip and I was told if I call ahead they can change the wax for me. (It is a small wax pot). She did not double dip the sticks when applying was to my underarms she also had what it looks like roll on wax applicators which isn't the most hygienic. Wax was not painful as I anticipated since chocolate is still a strip wax (use of cloth and softer wax) and all hair was removed quickly and efficiently. Skin was not lifted. Will inspect underarm when I get home. Went back day after and did brows. Came out really really well! Will be back!

Last night I called to make an appointment for today at 11am, for my boyfriend. I clearly told the lady who I spoke with, which I believe is the owner, that he needed a hair cut and trimming on his beard if possible at 11am because he works at 12. We arrived exactly at 11am and the stylist wasn't there because they confused his appointment times. She lives down the block and before she arrived I repeatedly asked if she does trimming on beard. He didn't want her to line it up or anything just to trim it. She repeatedly stated that the stylist would arrive shortly. After asking her if she could call the stylist to save both her and my boyfriend time by asking if she actually trims hair, the owner seemed to get pretty mad. Then when she finally decided to call she made a remark about going to barbershop, I walked out. I know I could go to a barber but he prefers salons. Talk about customer service and keeping your clients happy. Definitely lost me as a customer and like they say bad recommendations spread faster than referrals.

I got there around 6 on a Monday hoping it wasn't going to be too busy (the weather is nice and usually she's busy) when I arrived there was just one other person there and I didn't have to wait at all. I showed her a picture of what I wanted and she said yes they can do that.I had a good head massage when my hair was washed which was a plus. Once washed ( my hair smelled heavenly) she went right to work. In about an hour (maybe less) my hair was done. She even pinned it up for me so that I could sleep without it getting messed up. Hair aside, because we all know she does a great job, the salon is clean and neat. Its next door to a laundromat and a corner store. Her prices are good ( I spent $35 not including tip) I can always count on this salon to be opened. She's opened early and closed late. The salon is also opened everyday. All in all I would recommend this hair salon to everyone. I will definitely be back.
